Because the Kings would have to trade younger pieces to acquire him, and the Kings need to get younger, not older.

Do you want to relive Lombardi's final years again?

ROR is 27 years old, you trade a Toffoli, a LaDue, 2 2nd round picks, and you get better immediately and in the future,

Toffoli is 25 years old, and I think he's stagnated, he's not growing, etc, a change of scenery will be good for him, but only if we get better from it etc,

As far as the rest, LaDue is a question mark, there are arguably 2-3 D who are better who will take his slot, and the 2 2nds, crap shoots, for a sure thing in ROR,

You do that every day of the week.

Toffoli, LaDue, 2 seconds for O'Reilly at 33% retained?

Buffalo wouldn't do that. You said yourself Toffoli's a stagnating winger and LaDue is a question mark. You would have to pay something you don't want to pay.

Which brings back to going after every player who doesn't make sense from an asset point of view.

Apparently the fans are thinking they want a sure fire #1,

But it depends on Buffalo's management, O'Reilly, lost heart, you never know what they would take back for him, if they get a top RW for Eichel, and they possibly think Toffoli is that, you have to explore that...even if it leads nowhere, you have to explore it.

I want to relive 2011-2014, when a contending Kings team traded younger pieces for the right talented pieces to win two Cups. MaxPac is only under contract for 2018-19 for $4.5 million. Could the Kings use a 1st line winger? Hell yeah! Plus what else is a good arm chair GM gonna do right now?

Realistically it's probably going to take Toffoli and Muzzin for O'Reilly and a pick or defenseman. Tough to swallow but the Kings center depth would be unmatched. I guess I'd do it if Voynov was back. Still 7.5 is tough to handle with the forwards already making what they are.

Maybe if Brickley stood out, you would then have,

Forbort - Doughty
Martinez/Muzzin - Phaneuf
Folin / Brickley?

That's not too bad to upgrade the top six

Not to single anyone out, I promise, but why is it when any decent player is reportedly in a bad situation, the entire board imagines every scenario in which he could be acquired? Even if it doesn't make sense from a cap space, asset, or team dynamic point of view.
Cause it's fun and good conversation. Obviously we have absolutely no effect on what the team does. It's just fun to imagine scenarios in which the Kings get better.

It's better than talking about how awful Quick, Muzzin, Brown, etc are again isn't it?

ROR is actually only a year older than Toffoli.

Not singling you out as well...but it's no worse than hearing the constant bashing of Kopitar's contract. Or how Quick is a system goalie. Or how Brown should be traded for picks with the Kings retaining 50% of his salary. blah blah blah

When the Kings traded younger pieces for the right talented pieces to win two cups, the core was younger. The Kings have key pieces and core pieces, but they need to start focusing on the long term by grooming young guys to take the reins.

The Kings could definitely use a first line winger. But O'Reilly's a core player/leader in Buffalo. He won't be acquired without receiving a significant/core player in return. A stagnated winger and question mark on defense, both who are just two years younger than the much better and more proven player, won't do a thing.

Richards was 26 years old when the Kings traded a 20 year-old Schenn and 23 year-old Simmonds. While the value between O'Reilly and Richards are different, Schenn and Simmonds versus Toffoli and LaDue is a huge disparity.

The pieces to acquire ROR would be younger than Toffoli.

So maybe imagining trading Vilardi or other young, promising players doesn't sound fun when that price/perspective is put forth.

The only way ROR works on our roster, with that cap hit, is by moving Cart's 5mil to the top line with Kopi and Brown. He could potentially be that top winger and ROR and he are a wash at 2C going forward. But we would have upgraded our top line wing, which is what we need to do

Plus, seeing a lot of lineups with no Amadio. It's understandable to see him left out, but I think Amadio has an excellent shot at 3 C next year or the following. Thompson will be on the team, too, just not C in my line up :) (he could always shift there for high leverage situations, if Amadio is having shaky development in the circle)

Carter-Kopi-Brown
Kempe-ROR-Toff
Pearson-Vilardi-Lewis
AI-Amadio-Thompson

Brodz/Cliff

Still don't want ROR, but that would work with Carter's 30 goals on Kopi's wing. Rieder walks to save the 2.5 mil AAV or whatever he gets. Also, a 30 goal winger on a 5mil cap hit is still good value... not as much as him playing C, but that contract is so damn good. I want to see Amadio and Vilardi C

He has been disappointing in the playoffs for the last few years. Great regular season goalie but that doesn't mean anything when he can't show up on the big stage.

Not only that, but Grubauer simply outplayed him down the stretch. Trotz is going with the goalie who's got momentum going into the playoffs.

Wow, Holtby not starting game 1 for Washington. Was not a good year for him this year.

2015 1st rounder Ilya Samsonov apparently signing for next season as well. Depending on Grubauer's performance, perhaps they'd look into dealing Holtby? Grubauer is also RFA this summer, so they might not be able to afford both. Dealing Holtby might open up some cap space to try to keep John Carlson.

Would be the ultimate sell low on Holtby, but like you said, they may really need the cap space.

Trade talk is certainly premature, but out of boredom.......teams looking for a #1: St. Louis, Buffalo, Carolina, NY Islanders

Vancouver could be on the list, but they might be content letting Thatcher Demko develop. Washington probably wouldn't want Jake Allen or Scott Darling's contract coming back.

Two big assumptions, but let's just say Tavares is willing to come back if they improve the defense/goaltending and Carlson is willing to stay with the Caps.

NY Islanders: G Braden Holtby (2 years x 6.1 million)
Washington: G Thomas Greiss (2 years x 1.66 million, 50% retained), RW Josh Ho-Sang, 12th overall

For the Islanders, the 12th overall pick probably would be a few years away from contributing. So Holtby at least would be more enticing to Tavares to help right now. For Washington, they get a veteran guy to back up Grubauer (and they're both German, so they'd become new bestest buds naturally). Greiss would allow time for Samsonov to get AHL seasoning. Capitals get an extra pick to replenish their pipeline. Ho-Sang maybe has worn out his welcome with the Islanders, but could be a fun reclamation project for the Capitals who don't have a ton of RW depth.

With all this talk about trading TT, would anyone move him for tkachuk? Calgary always seem to be after a top end RS right winger. Adding Doughtys BFF would be interesting. I do feel like this team doesn't have enough horrible f***ers on it.
