I think Karlsson will stay in Ottawa. I don't know where else he can realistically go that can afford him that would be a better situation.

I haven't dug in on this one, but sounds like there's a good possibility Rick Tocchet is the Arizona Coyotes next head coach.




Good for him, loved him as a player and from all accounts has been a huge asset on the coaching staff in Pittsburgh, very motivating guy, players love him.
If anybody can lead that mess, he'd be a good choice

It would have been an interesting negotiation to be involved in.

- How much political pressure was the Russian government putting on Kovalchuk to play one more year and represent the country at the Olympics.

- Whether there were NHL teams willing to meet his salary demands. Kovalchuk wanted to play for a 'contender' but most of those teams are close to the cap and/or need space in the near future for their young guys. Columbus seemed to be the only team publically interested.

- Maybe Patrick Marleau commanding a three year deal at age 37 made the idea of Kovalchuk coming back to a 35+ deal next offseason more palatable.
