Thanks, Dee. It's hard not to pull for Weal. I'm glad to see him on an East Coast team and to have a chance to skate in the Top 6. Doesn't hurt to have seen a lot of game action in the AHL. This is his chance. I hope he sticks.

speaking of coasts, the Flyers next 3 are on the West Coast, Wens (Calgary) Thurs (Edmonton) and Sun (Canucks) So maybe some Kings fans will get to see him.

Trade rumors-

NESH and Boston Globe saying that the Bruins might be rethinking their 'concrete' stance on not moving 6'5 rh , free skating defenseman Brandon Carlo for Landeskog. They need an LW after Marchland and he would fit the bill. I watched the game vs the Habs yesterday (shut out win, 3rd W since the coaching change) and the Bruins looked like a completely different team under Cassidy. And reading some of the post game comments, they feel like a new team. It could be that has changed the GM's mind or maybe Julian had input.

TSN (over the weekend) notes
-ssaying the the Hurricanes, who needs a legit #1 center, are very interested in Duchene. But the asking price would most likely include Faulk or Hanifin which is why there isn't a deal yet. I can see this from both sides, I like Duchene but giving up Hanafin or Faulk woudn't make sense , keeping them , adding Pesce and you have 3 good young d. Yoiu add Slavin and there's a fourth. But #1 centers don't grow on trees and sometimes you have to take the pain with the trade.

- Wild might be eyeing up Hanzal.

From Saturday nights Hockey night in Canada headlines segment, Elliotte Friedman reporting that at the next GM's meeting, one of the issues that will be discussed is changing the offsides rule, which could increase goal production by as much as 50% if the rule were changed

According to rule 83.1 of the NHL rule book, "A player is offside when both skates are completely over the leading edge of the blue line." This means that if a player's foot is not touching the ice but is still above the blue line, a player is offside. Friedman suggests that this play will now be considered onside, which could help linesmen when reviewing plays after a coach's challenge.

And after watching the Bruins take out the Habs so handily 4-0. and hte Habs really in a downward spiral of late, I wonder if Bergevin's only moves will be players. Given the short shelf life most NHL coaches have, I wonder if Therrein 's job is safe? Lost t of last 7 and playing poorly. Is he skating on thin ice?

Weal had a very good game and IMO can be attributed to him playing in 43 games this year when he was called up, rather than sitting around alot last year. He had 4 shots, played a strong 2 way game and was very good on the PP. He is very confident in his game and is showed, his was making good quick plays, not overthinking. A part of that is how good he is defensively, strong on the puck in his own end and confident in skating it out. He was on a line with Cooter and Voracek and they combined for 10 of the FLyers 35 SOG's and he was an active part of that.

This is his thoughts post game (from CSN Philly) and is exactly what I saw and good moving forward for him, the trio looked veyr comfortable and meshed well.

He should have been up here all year, instead of Chris Vandevelde, who I am not a fan of. Weal has speed and skill and hopefully can show the FLyers over the next month or so, just how much he should be here. What he's needed and hopefully now will get is regular shifts, every night in the NHL. He's better suited for the NHL and now can show that.

I'm very much enjoying you talk about Weal playing with Cooter. Happy for him.

Bobby Mac's article about 2 Free Agent defenseman that NHL teams ought to consider

Bob McKenzie ‏@TSNBobMcKenzie 27m27 minutes ago

A couple of free-agent D -- a crusher and a rusher:

Ohio State's Josh Healey , a 22 yr old open ice hit throwback player who plays a hard physical game and could be a 3rd pairing d and s 25-year-old Czech Jakub Jerabek a strong skating offensive minded d whose contract with the KHL is up this year. B Mac says multiple teams are interested in signing him

Dang. What happened to the Flames? Coyotes gave them a smack down. Not that I'm complaining.

Do not jinx it. Four games left against the Flames let this season. Also 3 against the Ducks, Oilers and Coyotes. 2 against Canucks.

I believe the Hurricanes have a stronger prospect pool on the defense side, so moving out the right D to get a scoring forward makes sense. It's so tricky trading for a forward. Do you bat a home run and get a Carter who is consistently excellent, or do you pay a high price for a forward who declines after a couple of years?

Just read that the Wild are #1 in the Western Conference in GF, GA, and Power Play %. Geez.

Love Carter, but he'll turn 33 next year and Ron Francis or most other GM's isn't trading a stud young d with 15 years ahead of him for an aging center. for me, that is not batting a home run. You want fair value , and that wouldn't be. I don't see Duchene as a declining center. I think he's a very good center with speed and skill and just entering his prime. And was stuck on a team without a rudder. I think he'd fit well with the coach, system and young talent both on the Canes and coming up.

Wild are the best team in the NHL right now. Caps are doing their normal regular season show, and will be out in the 2nd (if not sooner) when they face the Pens. As for Bruce B, he's never had a team like this before. Different players , different room, stud goalie, and giving him the benefit of the doubt.

I wasn't clear. I wasn't suggesting the Hurricanes trade for Carter. What I meant is that when trading for an impact forward, do you get lucky and get a player like 2012 Carter or do you get a 2011 Mike Richards or someone in the middle like a 2014 Gaborik? It's tricky trying to forecast the return you'll get back a couple of years later. I think it's less so for a defenseman.

Reasonably good chance we're playing them in the first round.

I'd actually welcome it. Tired of seeing the Sharks. Would like to play a different team.

I would rather play Minnesota than the Sharks. They are an inexperienced team and could be taken advantage of in the first round. The Sharks are a much deeper team and seasoned in the playoffs.

Depending on the team and situation, the trade works for both. If you are a team like he Habs, who are close to a cup but lack a legit #1 center, then you overpay if that guy if you think he'll a game changer, difference maker and that 'piece' you lack. In the case of Duchene, he's young enough to benefit this year, next year (I give the Habs 2 to 3 years of a Cup window) but beyond that.
But I have no confidence in the Habs braintrust, and instead of that, they will opt for a cheaper fix.

Carter would be a home run if he were traded to a contender, a legit top 4 team that is primed to win now. But not for a team that is 3 years or so out. They would be losing too much, in top draft pick and player(s).

I don't like what Sakic is doing and has done, poor businessman with no plan. He's done a poor job of asset management so far and looks to be staying right on that course. Other GM"s are better at it, if they recognize they are not a contender for now or the foreseesable future (3-4 yrs) like the Yotes with Hanzal for example. They have a veteran player, a good center with size, skill and grit who woiuld be a difference on a CUp contending team that lacks that . So that team gets a piece that will help them get in a deep run or SC now and the Yotes get the pieces back to help in the future. Win on both sides.
It's all about how smart the GM is and how good he is at playing that game. The good ones find ways to make it work, and usually have trading partners they trust.

Therrein out...again, and Julien in...again in Montreal.

https://mobile.twitter.com/SportsCentre/status/831616901763780608

Good move by Bergevin. I thought something was up when he had that players only meeting last week. I've suspected for some time there are and have been issues with Therrien and never a fan of him or his style. They got themselves a grade A coach, who has the smarts and personality to provide just what that team needs (along with a center) Although they should have one in Galchenyuk, but he's been on wing as much if not more than center and when at center, not with Patches on wing. Maybe there was an issue there, Galchenyuk wanting to play and develop as a #1 and the coach not doing that and there is Galchenyuk's expiring contract this year.

Good for Claude, he goes to a top team , a contender. Can provide an impact right away.

SHould make a Boston Montreal playoff series rather interesting...

Sounds like there were multiple teams asking for permission on Julien. MON decided to move fast.

Yup, they sure did.

I'm sorry but why do we have a longer break than we did during the All-Star weekend? Almost a week long. Damn.

It's the 5 day bye week that every team is getting due to the compressed schedule.

You'll also be happy to know that teams have a terrible record coming out of it

For anybody who didn't see this, Antione Vermette not happy with the face off and slashed the referee.

Got a game misconduct for 'abuse of an official.' Should be a long suspension coming. Bobby Mac said according to rule 40, Physical Abuse of Officials (3 classes of abuse and according to the physicality, how long the suspension) he felt Cat. 2, 10 games.

Every time I watch this, I can't get over just how stupid Vermette is...

Anaheim is kind of struggling right now. Vermette being out 10 games wouldn't bother me at all.

The Ducks are 5-15 against the top 10 teams in the NHL. They're a pathetic 8-20 against the top 16.
