We could all see this coming, but still seems odd given Julien's history. A few owners might be asking their GM's about this move today.

Julien's a good coach, he'll have his choice of jobs, and I don't think he'll be out of work very long. Too respected by GM's around the NHL. Not his fault Sweeney has made some questionable moves, poor drafting and trades. The redundancy of Krecji, Bergeron and Backes , you have 2 players on the wrong side of 30, eating up 14M and then you sign another one to 6M??? You add Chara and Rask and that's 5 players over 29 making 6 M or more...

Vegas might reap the rewards of good coach availability. I don't expect Hitch to coach anymore, but you never know. Julien would obviously be a front runner.

Boston is where the Kings could easily end up in a year or two. Hopefully Lombardi can play his cards right and avoid it.

That would be next training camp. Kopi and AMart both turn 30 this summer. So that's 6 players 30 or over earning 4M (AMart) or more, totaling 36 M
Lewis is also 30 but at 2M

As for age, they are getting old. By training camp, not counting Greene or Seto, their average age is 29.

I think Hitch is done, but Julien, Gallant...Vegas has it good.

Which is partly the reason I've been advocating that if you move a defenseman, it's Martinez and not Muzzin.

It only makes sense though if it's another Johnson for Carter type of swap. If Lombardi trades assets with term or future assets for another rental... he's ****ing stupid.

I think Lombardi was more desperate the last 2 years. Defending champs that lost a top 4 defenseman and maybe missing the playoffs. The 1st rounder traded turned into a potential Matthews pick, and still only a year away from having won the Cup. This year, they're not defending champs, they've already missed the playoffs with this core, and they have their 1st round pick this year and next. Less overall pressure, as seen with the signings last summer.

Trading Martinez for a cost controlled top 6 winger rookie is the best option. Unfortunately, I think if any team makes such a trade, they will want Muzzin or LaDue in return, not Martinez. I think Martinez's value may be high in the offseason after the expansion draft. Teams may be desperate for a top 4 defenseman, especially if they lost one to Vegas, and do a Hall for Larsson type of trade.

I love how the salt over Doughty winning the Norris last season is showing no signs of going away. So many one-agenda posters on the main board.

As a Canadian who occasionally watches tennis, I'll be the first to admit I'm more of a Milos Roanic fan than a tennis fan. I think there are a fair number of posters on this site that are bigger fans of Karlsson than they are of hockey. Which is fine, but I would never go and try to force my opinions on Roanic on everyone on a tennis forum.

Weird parallel, but there's some sort of disconnect there that I don't understand.

Even if you did I doubt people would be upset until you started making ludicrous, easily-dispellable claims like "Karlsson is better than Vlasic strictly defensively" that are shattered by both stats and the eye test but then plugged your ears and doubled down on ignorance.

If Karlsson's team ever wins a cup I hope they present the team with the 15-16 Norris trophy instead.

I'd also like to get a kickstarter going to build a statue of Drew Doughty out of salt and glue and place it outside of the Canadian Tire Center in Ottawa. HMU if you'd like to help with this noble cause.

haha...love the idea of any Doughty Statue in Ottawa.

Pierre Le Brun on the radio today saying that the Pens and Stars are in 'preliminary' talks regarding Fleury. Not that it is a shock, Pens have to move him and why not do it now and get something. Also, Stars need a goalie and Fleury absolutely needs a fresh start, and in the other conference would be better for him.
But the key word being 'preliminary'.

You know who was part of their last 2 game win streak, yep the Kings.

Impressive streak, Ovie had at least 1 SOG in every game since March 12, 2013 thru last night.
