There is also another possible reason to play him. If the Ducks have something to play for and play everyone do you want to give them anything? If they think it could be a finals match-up.

I don't know about that. If Toffoli is capable of 30, I think Tarasenko will do just fine. Plus the Blues are a solid team defensively as well and try to pattern a style similar to the Kings, he might pot less goals but not by a drastic amount I don't think. Good players manage to find ways to be successful.
