I can't think of a single person on our boards who disliked Williams. Gigantic part in both our Cups, the Caps are so lucky to have him for the playoffs, though he probably gets canceled out by a choker like TJ Oshie.

Lucic has replaced him points wise and we have other depth scorers like Vinny. The biggest thing right now is injuries. They have to be sorted out and if players won't heal then we have to acquire new ones through the trade deadline.

Never got the Williams hate. Wish he was still a King. Lucic kinda evens him out tho. Wonder how LA would fair today had they been able to keep Williams and their first? Losing Gabby hurts too.

I do think in the end the records will even out into a close division race.

Williams was a liability with the puck his last year with the Kings. I can remember 2 short handed playoff goal caused by Williams. Sure he put up some points, but was small, and gave up chances against.

Where would the Kings be with Williams? Probably on the outside looking in like his last year here. Remember when him and Brown both lost their spot on the top line by being outplayed by Lewis. Good times...

Hope things work for him on the Caps, but his time with the Kings was done.

Williams wasn't going to re-sign for a reasonable amount.

Nor do I think he'd be doing what he's doing in Washington. Team scoring has and always will be an issue and he'd be struggling same as he did last year. He'd still get his goals and points, but he wouldn't have 19 goals and 22 assist after 56 games with the Kings like he has with the Caps.

Williams had a very mediocre season last year. His production was right in line with his Kings average, but he left a lot to be desired on defense. He was a turnover machine and handled the puck like a grenade most nights.

People complain when Dean brings players back and they complain when Dean lets others go like Scuderi, Mitchell, and Williams. There comes a certain time when you have to move on.

Aside from the production which isn't even close, Lucic adds a different element that the Kings sorely lacked. Williams is a great playoff performer no doubt, but Lucic is no slouch either. If the Kings make the playoffs and if Kopitar is healthy, watch out.

Through 56 games Lucic has 4 less goals and 5 less points than Williams had ALL of last season. It's not close.

Captials are also averaging nearly .75 more GPG than the Kings.

I do think Dean would have re-signed Williams if he was asking for what he got in Washington. I still think he was asking for more years and more money than what he settled for with the Caps.

I don't know about that. Lucic is has a cap hit of $3.25m this year, same as Williams. The difference is that Williams has the same hit next year, and we know the cap issues that Lombardi has going into next year.

It was a matter of not just changing up the mix after missing the playoffs, but the Kings are also on more of a year to year thing right now. They also had Kopitar to sign too.

With the Sharks loss, the Kings will remain in 1st place no matter what happens tomorrow in Nashville.

I think either way we'd stay in first because the Sharks could only have gotten to 69 today. But yeah, still a tenuous grasp on that seed.

Williams had to move on. It's one of those surprisingly rare situations (for me, at least) where a guy moves on and I don't harbour any ill-will or anything like that. He wouldn't be putting up those numbers in L.A., but I root for him until he plays the Kings. Pretty different from the Richards situation (and I like Richie alot), but I never got the impression he was coasting last year, he was just worn down by the system.

I posted last season about how I thought he'd end up in Toronto and would rejuvenate that core, but that whole thing's been blown up. If Washington ends up winning it all, I'll dig up the post.

The King's cold streak is just coming a month or so later than we're used to. These last few losses the team has at least been in the building, competing. Flip a coin the last two games against two quality teams. SJ and Anaheim will slide at some point too, especially the Ducks. Not buying the hype there at all.

Shayne Gostisbehere's goal wins it in OT

Point streak extended to 15 games, first NHL defenseman with 15-game point streak since Chris Chelios in 1995-96.

and it's his 4th GWG in OT, which is one short of the NHL record held by Stamkos.

12 goals, 34 pts in 40 games.

He is on amazing young talent, speed, skill and IQ off the charts...

20 on the season, is the the only 44 yr old NHL'er to get 20???
19th season where he's had at least 20 goals...

And spent four and half seasons playing outside of the NHL... Can you imagine where he'd be if he had played those years in the NHL? The man is just a freak of nature.
