Is he really now a Ducks fan, or are you just saying that? He has been around the Kings online community for getting close to two decades now. I know he doesn't post here anymore, and he is a bigger pessimist than even me, although sometimes the constant blatant homerism of homeboards can be tough to deal with.

I do think offering Muzzin for Buff is laughably bad though.

I guess you just forgot the 2007 hfboards. That's the year he stopped posting here. Not gonna go into details because there is no need for it.
Osprey nowadays only shows up when he can badmouth Kings players/management or make idiotic claims.
I love that he had to eat his crow. 2 Stanley Cups and the motor is still good to go.

Why do people think Muzzin is overrated? He has good stats, both for points and defensively, yet he is literally never mentioned ever outside of Kings fans. His mistakes are blatant and sometimes over the top bad but they are very rare and don't really cost the team games. I can only think of two instances this season where he really ****ed up a play. He's even got a great contract. He is so underrated it's not even funny.

He's a top-tier #2 and, even if you just DESPISE him, he's no worse than an absolutely fantastic #3. The slump he just went through was probably the worst outside his rookie year but other than that he's been as stable as one can ask.

Muzzin for Buff is a lateral move, possibly outright downgrade. Terrible idea.

While I agree completely it's a terrible idea, in no way if Buff a downgrade. Buff is a better player than Muzzin. But not by all that much and trading a key core player on a steal contract for a UFA is a bad bad idea.

Why the hell would a team have patience with the bad turnovers, brain farts, and growing pains that Muzzin went through just to trade him when he puts everything together? Seriously crazy. The gap between Muzzin and Buff isn't all that big. Jake is absolutely top line quality offensively, at worst a #3 defensively. His only problem was the toolbox and that problem has been solved.

Outside of the JJ trade, DL hasn't really been one to trade roster guys at the deadline anyways. That's the only time it's happened since his initial house cleaning.

I was hoping you'd chime in!

I'm sure it's not something we haven't heard, but curious about how you think Buff would fit with LA.

i thought there were tiers. The lower tier was 10 games and the next was 20.
if this is correct I imagine the league wanted to give him more than 10, so had to do 20. I am guessing Wideman will appeal and it will be around 15 games.

Yeah there are tiers. 10 games is for contact without intent to injure, 20 games is for contact with intent to injure. Both are automatic suspensions with the length included as part of the rule so I don't think he gets to appeal it. It was either 10 games if without intent, 20 if with intent to injure.

I forget where it was but there have been whispers that he may end up Doughty's partner for the World Cup, so yes Muzzin is underrated but that is starting to change around the league and will take WAY longer to change round the internet.

he has filed an appeal

Muzzin is as good as Seabrook (if not better) in my opinion, but that's not a widely held view. He still seems to go under the radar for the most part, unless it's people claiming that he's carrying Doughty

Just read that Wideman was concussed on the play not just momentarily dazed. With that, I can see him not realizing the person in front of him was an official.

Concussion doesn't automatically make you blind and lose all ability to think. I have been concussed multiple times, even being knocked out once. I was able to get up and know who the trainer and my teammates were and not try to crosscheck them into the boards. Even if he thought it was a player that was a super dangerous play and still suspension worthy. If it was a serious injury, why didn't he just stay down?

What different people do in a given situation can be different.

Why didn't Kapanen stay down? Sometimes guys stay down, sometimes they don't.

The guy wasn't stumbling, he got up a little hunched and pushed someone into the boards.

If he got up and was really struggling, there should not be a suspension if he falls down and accidentally pushes the linesman into the boards. That was definitely not the case.

I think he would fit right in. Buff's big strengths come from his dynamic play and fantastic vision. Two elements that would be HUGE for the Kings. A player that make a big play, lead the rush, throw the big hit, a real impact player is something the Kings don't have really. They have guys who can take over and control the pace of the game in Kopitar and Doughty, but not a guy who can physically take over. Buff would be a godsend for Gaborik, Carter and Toffoli with his elite passing vision. Can speed up the game with his skating.

His weaknesses of course are the same as his strengths in his high risk play. The nice thing about moving to a responsible team like the Kings over his current situation is that the Kings will be able to cover for his mistakes alot better than the Jets can. So his negatives will be minimized on the Kings. He is a game breaker that would certainly put the Kings over the top.

Question is of course if it would be worth it. I'm not sure if Kings have the system depth to run the risk on Byfuglien. Maybe. Obviously it'd be a trade I would really want to work out for both teams. Of note is that the Jets were trying to trade up in 2012 to get Tanner Pearson (ended up taking ECHL goon Lukas Sutter with the 37th pick ). So I think that's likely what they'd want to build around. With Mersch and Kempe NHL ready the Kings would be able to afford that, but the Jets would want more, IMO. So I don't know.

Post concussion symptoms vary from person to person. Some people have that disconnect where while they may see and react to something/someone, they may not actually recognize and understand what their eyes are conveying.

I am open to the possibility that this was the case with Wideman. Wideman may have seen the official but not have recognized he was an official due to that disconnect.

Wideman needed to undergo concussion protocol. From what I've been reading, he refused. Protocol needs more teeth to it.
