Ever good story needs a villain. I don't mind Milbury in general.

I wouldn't assume that all, or even most, of those who voted for John Scott intended to embarrass him. That's a pretty pessimistic view.

Why do you think an enforcer and borderline NHL player who has 5 career goals was voted in?

Mike Milburys greatest hits:

Traded Zdeno Chara, Bill Muckalt, & 1st Round Selection (Jason Spezza) for Alexei Yashin

Traded Olli Jokinen & Roberto Luongo for Mark Parrish and Oleg Kvasha

Signed Alexei Yashin to 10 Year, $90M Contract

Traded Bryan McCabe, Todd Bertuzzi, & 3rd Round Selection (Jarko Ruutu) for Trevor Linden

Thanks for the painful memories. Do you rip scabs off people too?

:(

Maybe they truly hoped that this would actually add some excitement to the all star game? it's been meh to abysmal the past decade.

Oh hey look, his team STILL won the tournament (a million is a million, they were actually trying on the ice, too)

It was obvious that he wasn't giving his all...until when it mattered. He set the tone and easily could have been MVP. Koudos to Scott though. Some skilled goals.

Doughty and Quick add more accomplishments to their list. And really, Doughty has won almost everything he could. Amazing.

Doughty really kicked it up a notch in the final 5 min , breaking up a few 2 on 1 , just like we've seen him in reg season OT. Quick was ok to start in the first game, but as the game went on he got into it, and really made some great saves , especially in the final . That backhand save above the net was fantastic.

I think I'm one of the few people who actually likes Milbury. I don't always agree with him. He can be a grump with polarizing opinions but I like that he says what he thinks and he isn't afraid to go against the convention. His opinion on fighting is admirable given the era he played in an was a proponent of it at one point.

Milbury is the NBC version of Hayward. Says some really stupid things but once in a while provides some good insight. Both aren't terrible, considering guys like Steigerwald are still employed. Milbury is only on national games too, so I don't really mind.

Oh and he beat someone with a shoe so that's kinda bad.

Just out of curiosity, did you vote for John Scott? And if so, did you vote for him for these reasons?

Edit: follow up question. What sort of excitement do you think he would have brought to the game?

Its what, about 90K per player? For guys making 5+ million that's nothing doubt they cared about. It's a nice little retirement bonus for Scott though (about 15% of his salary).

While I hate Scott and everything his position represent (fighters that fail badly at hockey) it's too bad he is now done for the reason that he is standing up to the NHL. He is not good enough to go to Europe and he won't get another NHL contract. I firmly believe he is going to be blackballed out of the league. While I don't think he is an NHL player anyways, that type of stuff should be up to GM's not up to politics.

I didn't vote for Scott but I imagine it was less to humiliate HIM and more to stick it to the NHL. It could have been Scott or another marginal player, didn't matter who really.

Edit: also agree with Holden. I didn't particularly care for Scott one way or another before this, though it made for a great story when all was said and done; but I also think the next chapter is gonna be Bettman and co saying welp you had your fun, enjoy your hockey banishment.

and just 1 day after the all star game, we've already got a thread up claiming enforcers aren't liabilities on the 4th line...

i never vote for all stars. I'm glad some people thought of Scott though, and how it quickly took off from there. I was looking forward to the change.

I'm not surprised that many people are like "send Scott back to SJ!" but anyone making roster decisions based on an allstar game should be fired on the spot.

Pet peeve: I'm ok with them updating the Kings website, but how hard is it to list game times in LOCAL time? It's 2016.

EDIT: Looks they've split the link between https://www.nhl.com/kings/ and http://kings.nhl.com/ whereas the former takes you to the nhl page on the Kings and the latter takes you to the team's website. They both used to go to the team website which always lists in local time.

Never go in against Jonathon Quick when money's on the line.

So very true. He's got that competitive extra gear that you saw from a guy like Roy or Brodeur.

Doughty really kicked it up a notch in the final 5 min , breaking up a few 2 on 1 , just like we've seen him in reg season OT. He sure did. That play was key too. Late in the game a two on one, he bends down and reaches out with his stick to break it up.

I agree, he was okay in the first one, but he clearly wasn't trying to make any acrobatic saves either. He turned it on in the first period of the final game, and really set the tone.

Sometimes I can't believe we have these guys on our team. We are getting to watch something special. 2016 is going to be another Cup winning year. I can see it in their eyes just like in 2012.

Prust (VAN) and Raymond (CAL) on waivers

Elliotte Friedman's 30 thoughts column, article is on Wideman, and what suspension he might face and how much clout the
Official's Association has

As is normal, the NHLPA will represent Wideman, arguing for as low a number as possible. (The Flames will defend him too, adding a storyline we will discuss shortly.) What makes this situation different is the inclusion of the Officials’ Association. It’s a powerful group, and it will push for harsh justice.

Jagr doesn't even take off during the All Star break:
10. When the NHL went to go get Jaromir Jagr to walk the red carpet before the skills competition, he was working out in the gym, covered in sweat. There were so many players saying they wanted a Jagr autographed stick, I asked the equipment guys how many he brought. They said they saw four. Now, we’ve got to find out who actually got them.

I'm sure they don't make much noise but when they do, oh boy.

And I agree with him, even if Wideman did it on accident, less than 10 games is a slap in the face to the officials who should have no reason to not feel safe out there. If it seems excessive? Good, it should; leave ZERO doubt that anything even remotely looking like it's not a complete, 100% accident is going to get you in deep ****.

funny you should say "slap in the face". Just playing devil's advocate, but could not the same thing be said about Lucic accidentally hitting the linesman right after serving a 1 game suspension for throwing a punch?

It could; but I don't think there's much argument that it was anything but a total accident. I think it's much more grey-area with Wideman. I could see arguments otherwise though and yeah it would fit with 'zero-tolerance' re: safety for officials.

Then again, think of how many fights throughout the year happen where punches are thrown with a ref/liney between, gloves on or not; zero-tolerance stance may help with that too. Shrug. I don't know how I feel about that last part but your thought made me think

not saying I think Lucic should be suspended or anything, but if (I know it's a big if) both are accidental and there is zero tolerance than both should be looked at no?

I am glad that the wideman thing took the attention away at the very least

No, the same thing can't be said.

Berube starting in goal tonight for the Isles vs the WIld, Halak the backup

http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/nhl-p...-goalie-move-for-game-vs--wild-160613194.html

So why play Berube? As Cory Wright notes, Berube is on a tear with AHL Bridgeport, going 4-0 with a 0.97 GAA and a .967 save percentage over the last two weeks.

Hey, Jack Capuano has to play the hot hand, right? Even if that hand was stopping AHL shots while Jaroslav Halak is 2-2-1 in his last five against NHL competition.
