Yeah, I can't believe he has the stamina to refute that crap. I'm glad someone does, though! But it is funny. If you routinely are at the bottom of your team in GAA 5v5, that doesn't mean you play bad defense. If you're near the top of your team's rank in GAA 5v5 consistently, that doesn't mean you're good at defense. It's absolutely mind-boggling what kind of mental gymnastics you have to perform to pretend there isn't a correlation when it happens year after year. Like I've said before, it's a combination of risk taking and getting burned by it, but also to use a soccer term, destroying the shape of your defense by putting everyone else in bad position to defend against a scoring chance.
It's funny Sens fans pointing to last night's effort as Norris quality when he was on the ice for all 5 goals! Basically, if you want to see a goal scored, for or against, it's more likely to happen with EK on the ice than any other player in the league. The "best" defenseman in the league plays for a team which is second worst in defense and second worst in PK. Honestly, if he did play PK, spoiler alert he's not good at it, they'd probably be dead last across the board.
Nobody actually watches games now and sees these defensive breakdowns, apparently. They just look at box scores and that's it. It's as bad as college football polls now in determining these awards. It's like saying Doughty is "mediocre offensively" because of his point totals when he pulls **** off with the puck that very few defenders in the league can do. But nobody sees DD do these things unless it's in June or on Olympic ice.
