Well Doughty is going to end up with 50-52 points this season. I don't think it's that much of a stretch to think Karlsson would end up with 8-10 more on the Kings.

Karlsson has gotten the vast majority of his points simply getting shots on net this season and having his good forwards finish. With the Kings' lack of finish, I don't see him doing much here, and there's no way he'd get to play unrestrained under Sutter.

I don't care to do the team swaparoo exercise because it's all hypothetical, but it reminds me a lot of the "well Ryan Miller is leaving awful Buffalo where he has a .930, he's certainly going to put up a .975 in St. Louis!" talk.

Karlsson makes at least one atrocious play per game that would get his ass planted on the bench for the rest of the game.

i've seen this mentioned a few times before too in regards to all the hypothetical nonsense that gets thrown around, and no one really pays attention to it. You know, if it doesn't fit the narrative...

I didnt realize Doughty is on pace for that many points! kinda makes what you said more feasible but Id imagine that EK wouldnt get to play the entire PP like he does in Ottawa and he'd be expected to PK/take defensive assignments. he sure as hell wouldnt be joining the rush as often as he does now. his game would have to do a complete 180

Yeah. You can't extrapolate performance from team to team imo because there are way too many moving parts. I WILL say that both Drew and Erik are cream of the crop defensemen that are adaptable so I'd count on their success elsewhere but I'd get the feeling that "success" would look different.

Good point.

exactly.. I am guessing both Brown and Gaborik would be exposed and I imagine there is a good chance neither gets claimed.

I could see a team taking Brown. There is a case to be made. But I see Vegas as really the team that would take him and if only one team enters he probably isn't the first choice.

Case for Brown to Vegas
He's American
Proven winner
Proven leader
Solid in the community
Never been a question about his work ethic
Team will have to get to the cap floor

So for a new team he is a great person to have around. You'll have a very active face in the community for your team. That will work and try to give your team a winning culture.
Just not sure he would be the first choice but could see him as the second with 2 teams. But right now my bet is just one team if any.

Doughty would end up with 8-10 more points if the Kings shot at the same percentage as the Sens.
And that is just using what his current numbers are based off the Kings scoring 32 more goals if they shot that 1.48% better.

That is one thing that EK does better than any player in the league, and it's got shots through to the net. Without question, he's the best at that. That particular skill doesn't make you the best defenseman, though.

You're right about the whole plug and play thing. These ain't computer parts that you just pop in your case and your performance automatically goes up. It's never that easy. Hell, just look at how many times a team has purchased a big name UFA in any sport and they end up busting. Sometimes, it's not a fit.

I also agree with what you posted on the main board. I wouldn't be shocked at all if Doughty didn't win the Norris. Some Eastern writers will 100% leave him off their ballot, while the box score watchers will include EK and even Brent Burns. So I hope our boys win it all again this year, because it could be like 2014 when our guys parade Lord Stanley around Vegas and win none of the individual awards. And I'd be fine with that!

Andy Strickland on XM - "Roenick saying Shattenkirk wanted out is pure trash."

Just like everything else Roenick says - pure ********.

I think it's a fair matchup I'd just rather not play them because they literally went out and built their team to beat us. Beating us would be their Stanley Cup.

I like our odds in a playoff matchup where Sutter would give two more ***** about line matchups and expand our playbook a bit. Meanwhile, Boudreau has already been hardmatching everything he wants. I think i'ts a wildcard because we don't know exactly how our team will respond in a heated playoff matchup when we already know exactly what Boudreau wants to do.

Still LMAO about Kesler 'owning' Kopitar in their head to head matchups when Kopitar's metrics go up across the board without fail faced with Kesler. Can hope they keep going to that.

Honestly the biggest problem vs. the Ducks lately has been their defensive depth and the line matchups. Rakell is a major player for them, so when Carter was hurting, Getzlaf-Rakell-Kesler was eating Carter-Vinny for lunch. I like our odds more as Carter gets healthier and Boudreau doesn't get to constantly put LOADED lines out vs. our worst repeatedly (I had to lol last game when he literally put out Getzlaf-Perry-Rakell-Fowler-Vatanen vs. our 4th line and Schenn-McNabb. IN L.A. That's not going to happen in the playoffs).

thx. it should be the hell of a series, a huge test for both teams.

Bill Daly says salary cap projection given was around $74 million with the escalator, but a flat cap without the escalator.

Goalie Equipment

Goalie equipment update was given to GMs today. Sense is it's full steam ahead with streamlined goalie equipment. NHLPA and NHL on same page

Improving Scoring:

Another of the breakaway groups discussed ways to improve offense. One idea was going full 2 min on a PP even if a goal was scored.(con't)

I love that idea, and that was the original rule, before Jean Beliveau scored so many they had to change it.

Shrinking goalie equipment could really help the Kings high shot volume low % chance strategy .

May not effect Quick either.

Not a fan of the PP change. Kings take too many penalties and also could result in a bad call costing more then 1 goal. I don't trust the refs.

Karlsson makes at least one atrocious play per game that would get his ass planted on the bench for the rest of the game.

Pretty much. Jamie McBain would play 20 mins a night for Sutter before Karlsson ever touched the ice.
Top D man on the worst D in the league.

Teams won't have to protect players with NMC's?? That's stupid. Chicago has all their top guys on NMC's. Of course they'd have to hit the 25% thing but that's incredibly unfair if they don't have to protect guys like Toews, Kane, Keith, Seabrook, or Hjalmarsson.

They likely won't be able to protect all of them because those 5 and Crawford are responsible for over $42M, and they have to expose 25% of the payroll, so while they all have NMC/NTCs, gotta think that rule overrides them. Unless they want to protect less than the max, and only those 6 and Anisimov.

What about removing the blue lines and taking offsides out of the game then? For offensive purposes.

That has so many other consequences. One of the biggest being making it that much harder for the refs and linesmen to be in position. That line actually helps because players can't cross before the puck without control. And with the officials in worse position we end up with worse officiating.

can you imagine the increase in outrage from crappy calls? the refs are getting worse every year it seems, the proposed PP change would be catastrophic

Quick has always been in favor of smaller Goalie equipment. Howard/Quick are on record saying they already wear, and would love smaller pads.

Brad Doo....I mean Raccoon's a beast love reading his post shalacking all the Doughty haters.

Yeah, I can't believe he has the stamina to refute that crap. I'm glad someone does, though! But it is funny. If you routinely are at the bottom of your team in GAA 5v5, that doesn't mean you play bad defense. If you're near the top of your team's rank in GAA 5v5 consistently, that doesn't mean you're good at defense. It's absolutely mind-boggling what kind of mental gymnastics you have to perform to pretend there isn't a correlation when it happens year after year. Like I've said before, it's a combination of risk taking and getting burned by it, but also to use a soccer term, destroying the shape of your defense by putting everyone else in bad position to defend against a scoring chance.

It's funny Sens fans pointing to last night's effort as Norris quality when he was on the ice for all 5 goals! Basically, if you want to see a goal scored, for or against, it's more likely to happen with EK on the ice than any other player in the league. The "best" defenseman in the league plays for a team which is second worst in defense and second worst in PK. Honestly, if he did play PK, spoiler alert he's not good at it, they'd probably be dead last across the board.

Nobody actually watches games now and sees these defensive breakdowns, apparently. They just look at box scores and that's it. It's as bad as college football polls now in determining these awards. It's like saying Doughty is "mediocre offensively" because of his point totals when he pulls **** off with the puck that very few defenders in the league can do. But nobody sees DD do these things unless it's in June or on Olympic ice.

Cannot agree more! 100% spot on! And seriously I think Raccoon puts the fear in all Karlsson lovers. All legit info Raccoon slams at them and all they do is look at the stat sheets. I've said it many times EK is still very good but c'mon paaaleeeeze GTFOH with he's the BEST DEFENSEMAN in the league. And here's what's even more comical when they use the AINEC!
