I like your other points, but why is Reimer so much better this year then? Their SV%'s earlier in the year were closing in on some of the biggest discrepancies between teammates for a full season (though it's unlikely anyone will ever touch Hasek-Fuhr at .930 and .883 in 93-94). :help:

Reimer has fallen off a bit since, but they were closer to 40 points apart as late as January.

Reimer's been garbage in the past as well. So maybe it's just this year.

Edit: Contract year for Reimer, trying to play himself off the team. Down year for Bernier because he's stuck with TO for at least another year. That's enough to cause depression. Not to mention possibly suffering from SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder) from playing in the arctic north.

I'm not sure I like the two-minute penalty, but I don't know what's an appropriate deterrent between a time out and a literal penalty; I DO agree that frivolous and "why not?" throwing-up-a-prayer challenges should be cut out, but I'm sure there are some legitimate challenges that just don't get upheld, and it would be a shame to punish a 'legitimate' challenge the same way as the BS challenges.

All you have to do is go back to the Kings-Ducks game to see how coaches are abusing the challenge. The Kings score on the pp, had total momentum, the Ducks challenge an impossible to tell offsides and it takes close to 10 min to make the wrong call. All the momentum was sucked out of the Kings and it was like they had to start the period all over again and never got it going after the long delay. There needs to be a set time limit for challenges, both for the coaches and refs, say 3 min of review. If it's still inconclusive, the call on the ice stands, no more of this assumption BS that is getting goals overturned.

I'm not going to argue wrong call or not on that. But the definite wrong call was not adding the time back on the clock. And there is no excuse for that at all. Officials should pay dearly for mistakes like that. Not knowing the rules just drives me crazy. And I even blame Toronto partly for that. They are talking with Toronto there and something should be said when the decide either way that the play clock is now set to X.

Sutter did point to the clock and said put the time back on at the point of the so called "offsides" to the ref. It was the Ducks timekeeper who never did it, whether or not he was asked to by the officials no one is certain. The league did point out that there was an error and about 30 seconds should've been put back on both the pp and the official clock....after the game.:shakehead

I know what they said after the fact. My point is an error such as that should never be allowed to happen.
2 referees, 2 linesmen, the timekeeper and I'll even include the off ice official obviously didn't know the rule. And that is just unacceptable at the professional level.

I think if the goal isn't scored off the rush, they shouldn't be able to review the offside. Imagine the hypothetical where a team spends almost a full PP cycling in the zone before scoring right at the end of the PP, only to have it called back on an iffy offside at the original entry that had no bearing on the play.

EDIT: For an extreme hypothetical imagine it's the same situation but a 5 min major.

i thought about that during last night's game; like, it would have been the most Kings thing ever to spend enough time in the offensive zone that their two defensemen logged 3 and a half minutes shifts only to get the goal called back on a marginal offsides

it sounds like they're working towards that as well with the cameras embedded on the boards on the blue lines. Same with the cameras in the posts.

All NHl arenas will have cameras on the blue line for the start of the playoffs. It will aide the refs in offside calls that are challenged.

I'm shocked that this wasn't implemented when they allowed for offsides to be reviewed.

could not agree more with Murray. Very sad situation.

When it comes to cancer I am a conspiracy theorist believing there is more money to be made in the treatment than the cure, and that's why there is no cure yet (or take it further and some say the cure is being hidden)

on Shayne Gostisbehere:

Crazy stat for Gostisbehere's Calder Trophy candidacy: All 15 of the goals he has scored this season have either tied the game or given the Flyers the lead. Four of those are overtime winners. Coaches crave difference makers and Gostisbehere is one, for sure. In just 49 games, the 22-year-old Gostisbehere has the second-most goals by any rookie defenceman in the last 25 years, trailing only Dion Phaneuf (20 in 2005-06).

Impressive and his middle name has become clutch...

Ghost is a madman and is perfect for the Flyers. Those upcoming d-men (Provorov, Sanheim especially) should be able to be fantastic two-way/lockdown guys so having one that's more on the offensive end (honestly, one of the best in the league that way already) is perfect.

Love Ghost. Guy is an absolute treat to watch, and it also doesn't hurt that I managed to snag him for fantasy - thought I was just getting a guy who might be a good play with Giroux, and funny enough it's been mostly the other way around.

If he keeps his pace up, I think he might give Panarin legit competition for Calder.

I disagree for one simple reason. The team wouldn't have gotten the chance if it wasn't for a missed call. And that missed call lead to the whole thing.

They talked about it but for some reason not every arena could be ready. And I think they didn't want different arenas to have different setups.

The problem is that people only care if it leads to a goal. I guarantee a lot of "almost" offside calls are missed all the time, but we don't review those and put time back on the clock. We understand that sometimes a fraction of an inch is missed. So if the missed call happens and that moment passes as the play develops further (i.e. not on the initial rush), I feel like the review window should be closed. I know that's not popular because it's not the letter of the law.

simple solution to increase scoring and get rid of the review issue...get rid of offsides

Edit: not even sure if I am serious or sarcastic...just spouting garbage.

I'm just scared that history repeats itself and Oilers might go on to win 4 cups in a row with all these super star players and we suck

I'm sure Chia will trade one or two of the youngsters this off season for immediate help and difference makers.

I mean, that's inevitable eventually for someone.

Can't be mad if we eventually suck after winning 2 cups in three years, that's two more than other franchises have even seen, never mind in the span we saw them.

This is/was the golden age of Kings hockey and is very unlikely to ever be better. That's gonna piss off some fans who joined us in the 2010s for sure, but for those of us around before, it was well worth it. Hell we would have sold our souls for one in 2012, the 2nd in 2014 after a WCF trip in 2013 was just gravy, and after getting the second one, it blows my mind that anyone can complain about roster mismanagement. Going "yeah but we should have three!" Is presumptuous and greedy.

I agree. We'll have to pay the bill for the cups eventually. I remember the first few years of the 2000s. Horribad.

But I must add... I want to be greedy. I want more Cups!

We should have 3 just not in a row. First one should have came in 1993.
