I just cannot get behind the Pens, but I also can't see anyone stopping them.

TB at full health still is a longshot.

Just realize that the Pens supposedly peaked in 2009 and haven't done much since now. It give us some hope that we can turn things around before our window closes.

I wouldn't mind the Pens winning it all, but I wouldn't mind pretty much all the other teams winning other than the Sharks

Crosby and Malkin were also both in their early 20's in 2008 and 2009. Now 6 seasons, and many playoff disappointments later, they're in their late 20's. Today Kopitar is the same age as Crosby/Malkin, and Carter is in his early 30's. Not sure the Kings have the same kind of time to clear out bad contracts, and reinvent the team like 15 times.

Thought I would have an emotional attachment to the caps this year with Williams and Richards. Turns out I still am happy their gone.

Wow, must be horrible for Washington's fans, ownership and GM. With the Kings, at least we know the exact holes that prevent us from being a cup contender (Top 4 defenseman and 3C). With the Caps, they had a nearly perfect team on paper and lost in the second round. Must be brutal not knowing what to do to fix the team.

One thing is clear though, the NHL has gotten faster. It appears the fast teams are the ones advancing and the slow teams are getting booted. St. Louis is the only team left that plays a sort of Kings brand hockey, but they are so deep with talent that slow or fast, they can make it work.

The Caps aren't too bad off. They had some untimely injuries (and suspensions) to key parts of their D. They ran in to a hot team who finally has a goalie not named Fleury who can actually perform in the playoffs when it matters most.

The capitals will be still be contenders next year..however after next year they could look very different with alot of key UFA and RFAs. Will have some tough decisions to make after next season.
Going into next seaosn the team is pretty much in tact and they should not over react.

I also feel bad for Ovechkin, but yeah it would have been stupid hearing about the intangibles of Jdub and MR had they won the cup. Williams is still decent but definitely is not the same player he was two years ago. As for MR, you just hope he managed his money ok and can just ride off into the sunset without chasing one-year 500k deals in the NHL or a payday in Europe, he looked even worse than he did his last two years with the Kings, and I honestly didn't think that was possible.

And I still think while Williams playoff was amazing, that both Kopitar and Doughty were more deserving of the Conn Smythe.

For some reason I wanted the Pens to win. The Caps suffered from an injured Alzner, which ****ed them over much like Martinez's injury did for us. Kuznetsov completely vanished, but its not like Malkin and Crosby were factors either. That Bonino line carried the whole team throughout the series.

Every Cup winner has 2-4 deserving MVP's.

I don't know if Richards needs to chase 500k deals, but if someone is willing to pay him 500k to play hockey for another year, I don't see the point of turning it down. If not, he'll go fish.

You could've picked a few names out of a hat for the Conn Smythe in either year. Gaborik with 14 goals in 2014. Brown with the best hockey he's ever played in 2012. Kopitar or Doughty in either year.

Makes you wonder what would've happened had the Kings gone out in 4 or 5 to the Sharks in 2014, while including those first few games where they weren't ready to play playoff hockey. That insane journey bought this team a lot. It made Lombardi's loyalty take over, with Greene and Richards. It made getting Sekera happen for just the chance of getting in. It made the Lucic deal happen.

Yet I would take the 2014 cup and have to deal with the fallout any day of the week

Hah no kidding. I'll take whatever grief we're suffering for winning in 2014 100/100 times. Hindsight posts like that don't make much sense when the trade-off is an actual Cup to some fantasy that a loss could hypothetically bring more.
