That lack of effort by Hamhuis in trying to recover from his turnover was so evident I will surprised if he gets one more shift the entire rest of the game.

Controller-unplugged worthy.

He's stopped caring, and it won't take long for others to follow suit. They're just counting down the days to the trade deadline...screw Christmas!

The Canucks fan in me is happy because we need to tank and the Kings fan in me is not happy as this could spark the Ducks...but we will see.

With the Ducks its been 1 step forward, 2 steps back. Everytime they start to put something together , they get shutout and look like they did in October.

That is true. They play Tampa Bay next, so won't be an easy game like the one they just played. Hope they take another step back.

Canucks couldnt pass or shoot to save their lives tonight. hopefully its more of the same tomorrow

Did Hayward whine about how McCann should've been called for something afterwards?

Actually he was complimenting Yannick Webber for trying to help Maroon off the ice and calling Maroon's injury attention to the officials.

Jesus Gibson gets the shutout and Khudobin will probably be waived, which is too bad for the Ducks, because he has basically kept them in contention during the dark days.

Team got smoked the night before a back-to-back, lost a good player to injury, and will be playing their backup goalie? AND it's a team from the Pacific? :shakehead:

Kings lose 7-1.

How come you always predict ridiculous losses and then we win the game?

Reverse jinx is highly successful from Brad Doty. Maybe you should run a new game here instead of first King to get a goal. Seems to be working better.

On a serious note, VAN didn't come to play tonight. If Desjardins has any balls at all he's gonna kick every player's ass tonight and we may very well see a determined Canuck team tomorrow. Just an incredibly pitiful effort tonight from an ostensibly-pro hockey team.

He can kick them in the ass all he wants, but with Tanev possibly injured tomorrow, this is what the defense might look like:

Edler - Sbisa
Hamhuis - Weber
Pedan - Bartkowski

That is ECHL bad. Perfect for our tank and perfect game to give the Kings huge confidence and pile up some goals.

You don't know the Kings. AHL line ups and backups are the Kings weaknesses.

I'll never forget that one game against the Blackhawks when Toews, Kane, and Keith were out and the Kings lost in a blow out....

The Kings playing Sabers last season, when Sabers iced literally their entire AHL defense (injuries). The Kings lost that game 1-0, got shutout by an AHL defense.

Losing is always painful, but I rather win the games vs elite opponents. Losing against AHL teams is a mental thing that you can overcome.

You cant have a 82-0-0 season either.

Though that loss vs Buffalo was indeed shameful.

Sbisa a top liner....gross

I don't think anyone here thinks losing is improbable to some teams, but I think what most of us take issue with is their performance in certain games, like against Carolina in their 4-3 loss after playing really poorly in Detroit.

Obviously there's no such thing as guaranteed games, but you'd think that in certain games they'd show some more respect for their opponents. I think that's a reason why they play so poorly against a team like the Coyotes.

We seem to really struggle in games like that because often an opponent playing conservatively is fine giving us the outside, and we're fine taking it for possession and controlling the game, but rarely do we ever bear down; that just lets our goalies get cold, our defense lose focus, and the opponent just pounces when we inevitably get bored/stupid and make a bad turnover. We continue outshooting them 40-15, lose 1-0 or 2-1. I mean, how many times can we read this script?

I agree, it's gutless play. They're making the easy plays the opponent gives you in that situation--the opposing team concedes a lot of ice, but not the important part, and we take what's given and flub shots all night.

That's exactly how those games play out. I seem to recall some stupid penalties really killing them too against Carolina, and like you said, they don't seem to really make it difficult on the other team even if they may have the advantage in possession and on the shot count.

It's a bit comical at times when you see guys like Doughty, Kopitar, Gaborik, Brown, etc. all struggle against teams that are icing an inexperienced lineup. Let's hope those points don't come back to bite them in the ass come April. We haven't forgotten how much those lost points stung last season. And that is why some of us can be very critical of their performance. I wouldn't call it being pessimistic or negativity, it's a reminder of how this team underachieved last season and we have seen those types of performances creep up this season as well.

I also made a point to mention in one of the previous GDT discussions that the Kings had a similar number of points and a similar record a year ago, and we saw how they fizzled out after a cold month. The team can't afford to take a month off again, otherwise there are going to be teams catching up and/or surpassing them in the standings. After a very poor start, the Ducks are only 6 points behind the Kings now for the Pacific Division lead.

One more thing, NHL All-Star voting ballots are up:

I thought they played good against Detroit. :help:

If I'm not mistaken, the Kings outshot them by a fair margin and controlled play most of the game while Mrazek played pretty well. The Kings had a few lapses that lead to goals against but the Kings could've easily have won that had they buried a few of the good opportunities they had.

It's funny that people thought they played poorly against Detroit. I was traveling that day and was forced to listen to the Detroit radio feed in doing so. And they had nothing but good to say about the team and it sounded like they thought the Kings outplayed them.
