It's funny that people thought they played poorly against Detroit. I was traveling that day and was forced to listen to the Detroit radio feed in doing so. And they had nothing but good to say about the team and it sounded like they thought the Kings outplayed them.

Of course they did. Certain posters here are either just negatively bent, or don't really understand the full game. I heard the same counterbalance in regard to the CHI game...fans in the CHI GDT were saying the same things I was, that the Kings were outplaying the Black Hawks second period on.

I guess some people don't remember the goals the Kings surrendered on bad defensive lapses against a depleted Red Wings team that they should've outmatched. I guess I also made up these negative comments courtesy of the coach.

On what he liked about the performance:
We scored a shorthanded goal to get us back in it, we scored a four-on-four goal to get us back in it. Five-on-five, we don’t have four lines produce. The first goal against us is a soft penalty by Forbort. Two games in a row. It’s not acceptable in the National Hockey League. The second goal, was that the rebound goal, the empty net goal? Bad rebound, tap-in goal, and the other one was sort of between a rush and a soft coverage play – our left defenseman and our centerman. So we’ve got to score four. We had lots of opportunities to score four. Lots of opportunities. More than normal.

I remember that game well, where the top line was invisible, and the Kings really directed a good number of shots from the perimeter.

It was like the games against the Coyotes where the team barely put itself in prime scoring areas.

Patrick Kane extends his scoring streak to 20 games and is one game shy of tying the franchise record with Bobby Hull.

Should he stay healthy, there's a good chance Kane may be the Art Ross Trophy winner at the end of the season.

Pierre McGuire head must be exploding with all the hockey sexy on the ice in the Hawks-Wild game. Kane this, Kane that...Oh Toews and Panarin. Then the champion Parise showing his championship type leadership.

I remember reading he's on a 128 pt. pace. I'm actually rooting for that.

McGuire had the nerve to call Kane-Anisimov-Panarin the best line in the league last night. No ****ing way buddy, Benn-Seguin-Sharp is easily the most dominant and dynamic line in the league.

Frattin and Scrivens were obvious, but does anyone know what happened to the 2nd from that trade? Was that the one we took McKeown with in 2014, or did we trade it away? Or did we trade our 2nd in 2015 and take Cernak with the Leafs pick?

Tracking draft picks is a mess.

Traded for some bum named Gaborik...

I love this site so much: http://www.prosportstransactions.com/hockey/DraftTrades/Years/

They even have pages for NFL/NBA (and if you want to see a mess, NBA picks and their protections give me a headache).

As for the pick from the Bernier trade:

Los Angeles traded rights to Jonathan Bernier to Maple Leafs for Ben Scrivens, Matt Frattin, 2014 or 2015 (Maple Leafs option) second round pick (2015 #34-Travis Dermott) on 2013-06-23

Columbus traded Marian Gaborik to Kings for Matt Frattin, 2014 or 2015 (Ducks option from prior trade) second round pick (2015 #34-Travis Dermott), 2014 conditional third round pick (if Kings advance to second round of 2014 playoffs) (#63-Dominic Turgeon) on 2014-03-05

McKeown was drafted with the pick that the Kings got from Vancouver for Linden Vey.

Cernak was drafted with the Kings' own 2nd rounder, but that was sent away previously to Buffalo for Regehr. Then it was reacquired in the McNabb/Fasching trade.

Yeah I pointed that chart out like a week ago and got blasted for pointing out how unlucky we are

And how lucky NYR is, because someone talked about them running away with the league, when they're really in the unenviable 2014 Calgary, 2013 Colorado spot.

Great article by Bob McKenzie on Shayne Gostisbehere (ghost) the Flyers very talented , dynamic rookie defenseman. In the 9 games since he was called up, the team is 5-2-2 and he has 4 goals (2 are GWG in ot) 2 assists and is averaging about 17 min a game. He's been outstanding so far, such a gifted skater, moves like the wind and what a shot. Great IQ and vision, the Flyers haven't had a d this smart and talented since Mark Howe.

This is the game where I saw the glimmer of hope on the eternal Flyers gloomy horizon , I watched that whole series and in this game , he was brilliant, a dominating force. And the video included shows that.
I have been waiting ever since for him to arrive and now that he has, he's already showing why he'll be a positive impact player for this team, something they've badly needed on the blueline for years to come.

For me, it was April 12, 2014, the night Gostisbehere led Union to the upset win over Minnesota in the Frozen Four final. It was the final weekend of the NHL regular season and on this Saturday night, I couldn't change the channel from the college game to the pros.

The Ghost wouldn't let me.

It was one of the most riveting and exciting hockey games I've ever seen at any level. Gostisbehere's performance that night was as dynamic and dominant as I've seen from any individual in any game. He had one goal, three points, five shots on goals and was plus-7 in the 7-4 win. He owned the game every time he was on the ice.

If you have five minutes, do yourself a favor and check out this highlight video from that night:

A team that has shooters like Brown and Lewis among the top four in shots is definitely unlucky.

Brown is 2nd on the Kings with 75 shots, two short of Carter's team leading 77 shots. Trevor Lewis is 4th on the Kings with 61 shots, two short of Toffoli's 63 shots.

Kopitar meanwhile is 9th on the team with 40 shots through 24 games, Lucic has 35 shots, and both of them are at a 20% shooting percentage.

Brown's has a 2.7 shooting percentage, and Lewis is at 3.3 percent.

Flyers finally have someone good back there. I remember that first goal he scored against us this year, what a shot. Its pretty special for guys like Klingberg and Ghost to come into the league and start having an impact at such a young age, reminds me of when Doughty first broke in (though he was younger).

Regardless, it's unlucky, because how many 'bad goals' have opposing goalies let in? We've had to crack Fort Know practically every night...

Lewis/Brown put a lot of low quality shots on net though. Those are easy stops for Goalies.

Only difference is they are a good team. You don't go as far as they have the last 3 years without being good.
The thing I find most interesting is that the 4 unlucky good teams are all from the west, 3 being in the central and all 3 being top 8 in point%. If any of them can get it to the norm look out really.

I don't disagree, but my point still makes sense.

Dustin Brown is a career 9.5% shooter who shot a massive career low last year at 5.8%; he's currently less than HALF OF THAT at 2.7%.

Trevor Lewis is a career 4.6 and we don't expect a ton from him but hes' still below that at 3.3%.

Muzzin at 2%, career 4.8%, and so on.

Team is currently at 7.57%, 26th in the league; Even last awful year, we were at 8.6%. Historically, we're more middle of the pack than tail end of the pack. Yes, this team is unlucky right now, and even outside of Brown and Lewis, we're getting tons of quality chances and hitting walls.

Ask Rangers fans how they feel about their D this year; their performance matches their metrics. They're just getting god-mode goaltending and history shows us that can't last. with a PDO of over 105...they're gonna crash. It's just a matter of when, unless they can balance the rest of their game out.

I agree that they're historically a good team, and the others are explainable but not having the talent to finish, for example.
