What Getzlaf said was fair.

agreed, it's why the Islanders games are harder to watch this year (I like the Islanders and still will watch them but compared to last year there is an obvious difference in game tempo).
Players get going when the crowd is into it...no crowd = quite = less energetic players = slower tempo game = me asleep.

How the **** are people still not going to Islander games? They're finally decent after all these years.

Good for Bud I guess.

I personally don't care, the guy chased money in Europe, and missed out on a call up, and probably Two cups.

For sure. He'd have been called up probably instead of Nolan and could still be skating a regular shift in the league with his name on the cup.

I don't think Bud Holloway would've been a good fix in a bottom six role. Similar to what happened with Teddy Purcell. If those types of guys aren't in the top six, they'll be eaten alive in physical battles against better checking lines.

Its hard to say what Sutter was looking for when he choose King and Nolan. Had Bud stayed, he'd have been the standout among the 3 skill wise. I've never thought of King being that physical of a player, more like a big guy who can sort of skate, yet doesn't use his size to his advantage. No matter what, we still got what the team needed at the time.

Size, youth, hunger, checking? Didn't our 4th line just get rid of scrubs like Moreau at that point? They were a massive upgrade at that point.

I dunno, King is physical the same way Kopi is, just absorbs so much contact. And I don't know if you play too, but guys like that are a nightmare on the boards, you consume a ton of energy digging and trying to move them off the puck. Physical play doesn't have to be strictly banging.

I like to think Holloway could have made a bigger difference earlier, but if he did, who knows what we're looking at now...

Bud wouldn't have been called up. We had Kozan there that was leading the team in goals ( something the kings needed badly at the time) and they over looked him for king and nolan. Sutter wanted to get bigger plain and simply Make us harder to play against. So i can't buy into the bud missed out on two cup bs He was stuck in the ahl and left for opportunity to play and make money. He had little to no shot to be a king

That exactly how I see his game, but even from the get go I think one of his knocks was he never used his size to his advantage. I guess that's what happens being a larger player, you're expected to knock guys around.

As for Holloway, I think so too, seeing how bad we were in need of scoring even before Sutter took over.

Bud isn't exactly small, but I agree that Sutter wanted some major size. Kozun never had a shot, he's tiny. I think Nolan was coming up either way, for some toughness and 4th line stuff. Bud and King would probably have been a toss up. Bud brought a little more scoring, while King more size.

I don't think he would have been called up at the time King and Nolan were; he would have likely been on the roster at the beginning of the season. Remember he bolted inexplicably and IIRC he was penciled in for a third line wing slot. Or maybe that was just around here? I could be wrong.

Bud Holloway scored 28 goals along with 61 points, before he bolted to Europe. Bud was also the leading scorer for the monarchs in the playoffs.

He was well on his way to being called up. Bud is also not small, the guy is 6'0" and 200 LBS similar to Dustin Brown, just not as thick.

Bud left because he was offered good money to play in Euro.

He would have made the roster out of camp, or called up, had he stuck it out. He choose not too.

This all transpired before Nolan/King were even in the picture, Nolan played another 50 AHL games before he even got a serious look, Dwight King played another 40 AHL games.

Holloway would have been on the roster well before that. Terry Murray was also still the coach when this all transpired, Sutter didn't start coaching the Kings, till December of 2012

Holloway would have made the roster out of training camp that year.

The Kings were forced to ice two absolute plugs in Ethan Moreau/Trent Hunter, in part because Holloway, bolted for Euro. Sutter took over, and Colin Fraser/King/Nolan came along, then the bottom six was serviceable.

Tough to turn down more money when it's far more guaranteed than a Cup, or even a call up for that matter. Especially for a minor league guy that hasn't played an NHL game before the age of 27.

Well Sutter wanted us to be tougher to play against I seem to remember that as one of his first quotes. With that said it makes sense to me that he would go with King over bud.

I doubt he would have made the opening day roster. Murray was our coach then and i think he wanted a more veteran rosters. Hence the pickup of moreau and Hunter. I think bud knew he was going to the ahl and then decided to bolt to europe. I think many of us wanted Bud to be called up but i don't think the management was fully behind it. It sorta reminds me of when Futa said Weal would be given a shot at wing this year then went out and got Lucic which killed any shot Weal had.

I totally agree it all happened with Murray as the coach i however disagree strongly that he would have made the club. I think at the time we just acquired richards and was going for a strong playoff run I also think that murray thought going with more of a veteran presence was the right way to go However he was wrong and he was fired. I think Bud knew he was going to start in the ahl and took a better money offer in europe.

As far as me calling him small all i ment was his game isn't being a physical type game He was at the time trying to make us a big harding hitting team being hard to play against imo not bud type of game.

Colin Miller looks like he's playing really well for the Bruins. Good thing Lucic is working out or I'd be pissed. Still don't understand why he didn't try to include Gravel or Forbort when they needed a right handed shot back there, but whatever.

Again the kings wanted to get bigger and more of a veteran presence Dispute being "plugs" as you call them they both had size 6 2 moreau and 6 3 hunter. Which is why they would have made the kings over Bud

I think it come down to what the kings need more in the future and Forbort being a defensive defenseman won out. We have drew jake alec and mcbain (for now) to do offense Only greene really as our stay at home d and hes getting long in the tooth so to speak
