The Sharks are about to play, but as of now we're completely even through all of these tie-breaking procedures:

1. Both with 20 games each
2. Both with 11 ROWs each
3. Same points earned; have played an equal number of home games against each other.
4. Both have +6 Goal Differential

NHL.com has Kings still in first, ESPN has Sharks in first. Either way, it'll be clarified in a few hours when the Sharks game is over.

I feel like it's a Sharks back on top type of day :shakehead

Unfortunately Carolina couldn't duplicate what Lumbus did. Sj takes over 1st place with a 5-3 comeback win, now with a 6 game road win streak.:shakehead

One silver lining is that we have a game in hand if we want to regain first. It's also nice that we're upset about giving up 1st in the division. Other years we'd be complaining about being pushed out of 8th.

Oh that's still going to happen at some point.

Elliotte Friedman on Sportsnet 960 hinted that the Canadians are looking to upgrade on defense and forward, that they realistically have about 2 more years before the window closes, as Price's contract is up and year after Pacioretty .

Also, most teams have that 5 year window, due to the roster aging, changes and the competition improving. This is their 3rd year and I think they will go 'all in' and make some moves by the deadline.

ALso, the Sharks sig will be signing (most likely a 2 yr deal) Zubrus, ,mostly due to the 3 yrs he had in NJ with DeBeour.

From the Edmonton Journal, David Staples on the Oilers eventually trading Ryan Nugent Hopkins. He said that Draisaitl's emerged as what could develop into the center who could back up McDavid, and RNH would fetch a nice return for a top defenseman which they need.

The few games I've seen Draisaitl has been really good, not just the 17 pts in 10 games since he arrived but on both sides of the puck and had good vision, strong, seems like he'll track to that #2 in time, given the minutes he needs.

Preds have been shut out for almost 3 full games in a row now. They haven't scored a goal in ~209 minutes now. 5 mins left in this one against the Rangers.

Beat me to it.

Now, its...

Nashville (11-6-3) has been shut out in three consecutive games and hasn't scored a goal in the past
213:47. The Predators have 103 shots on goal and are 0-for-10 on the power play in that time. They were 0-for-5 with the man-advantage against the Rangers (16-3-2).

The Predators were averaging 3.00 goals per game prior to their three-game scoring drought. Their season average is down to 2.55.

Nashville is like a football team that runs the ball well and plays good defense. Always going to be in the picture but never going to challenge anyone when your best offensive player is James Neal. Kind of a similar spot that the Kings were in before Carter, although Kopitar was obviously better than Neal.

Nashville is going to need to take a long hard look at moving either Josi or Jones for some offensive firepower like the Kings did with Johnson for Carter.

Kopitar for Jones or Josi and Fisher, then flip Martinez + for a 2C?

I know a little far fetched, but if Kopitar won't sign at a reasonable AAV, it's an option.

Montreal would be another team that would be very interested in Kopitar. Of course we would need Galchenyuk + in return.

I'm thinking more like someone like Nugent-Hopkins for Jones.

Doubt Nashville would move either guy for a struggling rental player seeking a huge payday.

The Preds are becoming pretty dirty with Neal and Ribeiro on the team. Especially Neal. Dirty slashes and high stick all game long. Once a Pen always a Pen I guess.

We are ahead again! :handclap:

Crazy how similar the records are.

Nick Nickson said that if it were the end of the season and we were going down to tie breakers to get in, it would come down to a coin flip. Would suck to be on the losing end of a coin flip to end the season. Luckily we're sitting 1st and 2nd, and not 8th and 9th.

How many of us here think the Sharks are actually a good team?

Dean has his work cut out for him.

When you win six in a row on a six-game road trip, you don't really suck, right?

I think the Sharks have flashes of being a good team. But there is always that long losing streak waiting around the corner. It's really hard to tell with that bunch; they can become mentally fragile at the drop of a coin, so to speak.

I do believe the three California teams will end up 1-2-3 in the division. And perhaps that really won't be much of a distinction this season, as the rest of the division (Arizona, Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton) is just really awful. Can't see any of those teams beating out the Kings, Sharks, or Ducks for a third spot.

Kings won six in a row a couple of times last season. Was that team capable of winning a Stanley Cup?
