Horcoff was a union rep. I have a hard time buying that he didn't know he was doing something wrong. Statement is nice, but meh.

We'd be naive to believe he's the only dude in on this, but so many people making excuses for him blows my mind. I don't see any reason anyone should be okay with PEDs. We're not talking Backstrom using Sudafed at the Olympics here.

forsure it is definitely more prevalent than is being reported.
Also I agree Horcoff knew, but I am just glad he did not deny or just not answer questions

Wow, people are making excuses left and right for Horcoff in that main board thread. Somehow I feel like if he was a King it would be a very different reaction.

Disappointed to learn about Horcoff. I'm not sure he knew if the substance was banned or not but at the end of the day it doesn't really matter. He made a grave mistake that will likely cost him his career.

Come on...this was likely his last year in the league. I don't see how this has any impact on his career outside of 20 games.
Do the ducks get cap relief while he is suspended?

Damn 20 games. Has he even played that well for you guys this year?

He's been a decent depth forward chipping in the occasional goal every now and then. His greatest use has been on the PK which has been very strong this year. The Ducks are penalized more than any team in the league (the Jets may have more penalties, not sure). Santorelli will have to take his spot and hope the PK isn't too damaged without him.

He's 37 years old and he's shown he can still be effective in a fourth line and penalty killing role like I said in the post above. He could have stayed in the league for 2 or 3 more years. Doubtful to get another contract now IMO. Not sure about cap relief, I know he surrenders north of $350,000 while serving his suspension.

Montreal is giving up fewer shots on net without Price, and they're getting fewer saves. Condon is facing 25.6 shots per 60 minutes, and Price was at 31.4. Condon is at .904, and Price .934. The other 3 goalies besides Price have combined to face 26.1 shots per game, and a .899sv%. Their 1-6 combined record when Tokarski or Scrivens have played is hurting them right now.

The scoring has evened out. It just took the long road from way up there, to way down here. Basically the entire team was in for a career year offensively after the first month. Price has been that good, and they've gotten far too little from anyone else in net as the season has unfolded.

obviously their goaltending is going to be worse going from Price to any backup, but it's hard for me to say that's the clear point of failure when they're bleeding goals the way they are lately. Yes, the backups haven't really held down the fort as well as you'd like, but I don't think you can put it all on them.

like for example, it's not as if Quick always has a stellar sv% facing lower shot totals (great main board thread on that very topic actually) but the GAA still stays fairly low, which is how the Kings typically win.

I don't really buy that a team with Subban & Pacioretty is having this much trouble scoring without some sort of glaring issue, but maybe i'm giving the rest of that roster too much credit. I admittedly don't watch MTL a lot.

If he is still as useful as you say this will have no bearing on any future contract offers. just look at stoll and richards.

Oh it would be for sure.

so the 2006 Oilers had Stoll, Horcoff and Torres right?

Don't forget Pronger, Peca, and Pisani.

clearly everything that is wrong in the league is the Oilers' fault. They keep winning the draft lottery and have terrible players.
Why other teams hate on the kings when they should hate the oilers is beyond me

Happy 55th Birthday to Wayne Gretzky. It's okay for some Kings fans to admit they became fans in 1988 now just like it will be okay 20 years from now to admit they became Kings fans in 2012.

when is it ok for me to admit I became a kings fan because of Yanic Perreault? not saying i do not already admit it, just wondering when it is ok.

So if I understand right:

Kopitar 80M deal in California will bring him the same money in his wallet as would 69,4M deal in Florida?

All this is based on the assumption that Kopitar is filing jointly.

Per year California tax - $1,215,543 (12.16%); total tax per year - $5,136,840.
Per year Florida tax - $0; total tax per year - $4,139,797

That's a savings of $997,043 per and $7,976,344 total. Florida has a marginal and effective tax rate that is nearly identical.

Wait till the Las Vegas team enters the league...no state income tax here...

Crouse will be scary good.
Mitchell is still injured right?

He went on IR last week for what his coach called nagging injuries, but it's hoped that he'll return after a well deserved rest over the All Star break

He's had a bit influence on Eckblad, who Mitchell has mentored since he arrived in the NHL last year. On the loss of WM , he said

http://www.torontosun.com/2016/01/22/panthers-put-captain-willie-mitchell-on-ir

“Willie’s got a great stick,†Panthers All-Star defenceman Aaron Ekblad, a mentee of Mitchell’s, said Friday. “He’s unbelievable penalty-killing, 5-on-5 defensively he’s unbelievable. He still has a pretty good shot, getting it through on the point. There’s a lot missed from him. He’s a leadership guy. He’s our captain. He kind of lights the way. Obviously we’ll be missing that.â€

You can't put a price on all the good stuff that kid is absorbing by not only playing with him but living with him .

Team has great young talent and a nice trio of legit leadership in Jagr, Bobby Lu and Willie.

I actually did become a fan in 88. I didn't know anything about hockey or Gretzky. Learned all about him that year tho.

It's was both the best and worst thing that ever happened to the franchise for many years. It put the team on the map in a city where the showtime Lakers were in full swing. But the price just killed the team for many years to come.

I wouldn't say it's all the goalies. Backup goalies are backup goalies for a reason. Yeah, to fall as far as Montreal has takes an entire team effort, but it's also essentially the same team from the previous 3 seasons under Therrien. That might be good or bad, but in those seasons, they've averaged what would be about 105 points, and 220 goals for the year. The biggest difference, is no Price for most of this season when the offense normalized.
