Twitter just told me that Horcoff may get a lengthy suspension for an off ice issue.
Could happen to a better team.

"He will forfeit $357,526.88 in salary."

How the **** is that guy making more than the league minimum??? His agent deserves a raise.

LOL, where would you be hearing this? On some fantasy fan fiction site?

He was spotted wearing a Kings hat at a Taco Bell on Rosecrans. Lindros was also spotted ordering a Nachos Bell Grande that they'd share.

Since when are ear reduction pills considered a performance enhancing drug?

Ah ****, I think he heard me.

Barkov is a monster that reminds me a TON of Kopitar so makes sense that the deal is similar to Kopi's first.

Barkov will be UFA at 26.

It's a great deal, for what he currently brings and will continue to bring.
Tallon has done a good job putting together what will continue to be a good team that grows and develops the right way

And I hope they extend Willie, he's made a HUGE difference to a young team, terrific leader.

Stamkos offer

‏@TBTimes_JSmith $8.5 million avg. in Tampa nets more than $10 million in Toronto: how taxes may be factor in Stamkos talks

http://www.tampabay.com/sports/hockey/lightning/inside-the-money-matters-for-steven-stamkos/2262766 …

Really good article that explains the tax laws and how it changes the complexion of the contract.

Fla has no state income tax, make the 8.5M a lot more that a 10M in Canada; CA is 13.3% and NY 8%.

n Toronto, Stamkos' hometown, there's a proposed 53.53 percent federal/provincial tax if he's a Canadian resident. So even if the Maple Leafs offer $10 million annually, Stamkos would net $7 million less total over the length of the deal compared one at $8.5 million annually in Tampa Bay, partly thanks to an eighth year. Stamkos would even make just $1.4 million less total than Kopitar over his eight-year deal with the Kings, assuming Kopitar is a California resident.

The Tampa Bay Times dug deeper into the numbers, with the help of nationally renowned sports tax guru Robert Raiola, revealing potential x-factors: no state income taxes in Florida and the Lightning's ability to guarantee an eighth year on the contract. Raiola calculated that if Stamkos takes $8.5 million with the Lightning, it would net almost the same annually as $10 million in New York, presuming he'd be a New York City resident (see chart). He'd net roughly $500,000 less annually than $10 million deals in St. Louis or Detroit, due to city and state taxes, but take in more money over the length of his contract.

How the players get paid:

NHL players, paid in U.S. dollars, receive checks every two weeks from the start of the season to the end, broken down into a daily rate for the 186 days on the league calendar.

Each player contributes to an escrow, the percentage varying by quarter, with the most recent 18 percent. After that is taken off the gross pay, players pay agent fees and deductions for a "jock tax," where athletes pay the tax in road cities on days they play, practice or stay there.

The top U.S. Federal tax rate is 39.6 percent, Raiola said. The state rates fluctuate significantly in top tax rates, from 13.3 percent in California (Sharks, Kings, Ducks) and 8.82 in New York to 3.75 in Illinois. Florida, Texas and Tennessee are the only states with NHL teams that don't have state income taxes; Washington D.C. doesn't tax non-residents.

He really has done a good job, signed Nick Bjugstad last year, 6 yrs at 4.1 per and now Barkov as a reasonable hit. I guess they'll try to get Eckblad done the same way.
Good young talent, signed and a part of their future.

that's kind of insane actually, both of their young, top-end centers at 10 total for the next 5 years?

poised to do some real damage, i'm actually really interested to see how they stack up with the perennial contenders out east this year

I can't believe the downward spiral of the Habs. It they lose tonight and the Canes and Senators win, they will be right above the Flyers at #12 in the EC.
It's hard to believe that losing Price did this, there has to be something else wrong, it's like the team totally went pulseless.

I wonder how far they can fall before Therrien, pressure and such, loses his job?

i don't see how they haven't fired Therrien at this point

that team isn't lacking enough in talent for them to completely collapse like this, Price or no Price.

getting a bit tired of the "Price is the only reason MTL is good" narrative, they've gotta be doing something really wrong to be playing that poorly with the roster they have. Are they a real cup contender currently? Probably not quite there, but they shouldn't be bottom of the barrel by any means either.

No, if you watch them, it's a whole different ballgame.

I guess you could argue that Price gives them confidence to do things, but they're not even going to the net. They look like they're just going thru the motions...they look like they're trying to get their coach fired.

So if I understand right:

Kopitar 80M deal in California will bring him the same money in his wallet as would 69,4M deal in Florida?

something like that. maybe even less as if your salary is less you will pay less in esgrow as well

but that's what i'm saying, it's not like we're talking about the Coyotes or something here where you can literally look at their roster on paper and go yeah, they won't be contending for a bit. MTL has enough talent to obviously be a lot better than they're playing now, but instead it's going nowhere fast. And regardless, you're not winning a cup if you're THAT overly reliant on one guy to do all the heavy lifting. Quick basically carried the Kings for most of the '12 regular season like Price did with the Canadiens last year, but the difference is the rest of the goddamn team actually stepped it up after the coaching change and Carter trade, and obviously in the playoffs. It can't just all be on the goalie.

I've been watching more of them since Willie M went there last year and they have a lot of good young talent, 25 or younger. Huberdeau is only 22, Pirri 24, Kulikov 25, Petrovic 23, Gudbranson 24.

And they got Lawson Crouse a big, power winger, in the first round in 2015.

In 2011 they had 7 picks in the first 3 rounds.

Horcoff's statement

http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/nhl-p...ded-20-games-for-ped-violation-184415364.html

“While recovering from an injury I suffered this past fall, I tried a treatment that I believed would help speed up the healing process. Although I was unaware that this treatment was not permitted under NHL rules, that is no excuse whatsoever," Horcoff said in a statement released by the NHLPA. "I should have done my research and I should have checked with the NHL/NHLPA Performance Enhancing Substances Program’s doctors. I accept full responsibility for my actions, and I am sorry. Throughout my entire career, I have felt genuinely blessed and honored to play the great game of hockey, and I regret the impact that this may have on my team and our fans. I look forward to the day I return to the ice for the playoff push.”

Agree. That's the odd part, they shouldn't be losing this many games. And there was high expectations for them this year. I don't think firing the coach is the answer but I wonder if they continue to lose, how much pressure will affect that.

Lack of leadership -big time. Or locker room issue. No logical reason to lose like that.

I get it, and respect the guy for not ducking (no pun intended) out of answering questions or denying it.

My take is basically if he had to miss an extended period he would be faced with the fact he was done in the NHL. He is 37 years old and needed to get back on the ice in order to prove he still had value. Probably a lot of pressure on a player trying to stay relevant.

Crouse will be scary good.
Mitchell is still injured right?

I mean to me, the two bolded things you said go hand in hand. If there's no respect for your head coach from the players (something alluded to a few posts up by Raccoon Jesus), then that's totally a leadership problem in my eyes. Maybe there's nothing necessarily wrong with Therrien's system or coaching style, but at some point you have to ask if he's just the wrong guy for that room. Sometimes there's a lot to be said for those "locker room presence" guys regardless of on-ice play, which is something us Kings fans should be especially aware of - maybe the Habs are just totally devoid of that dynamic when they're forced to play outside their usual element (aka with Price in net). Lot of variables honestly.

Montreal is giving up fewer shots on net without Price, and they're getting fewer saves. Condon is facing 25.6 shots per 60 minutes, and Price was at 31.4. Condon is at .904, and Price .934. The other 3 goalies besides Price have combined to face 26.1 shots per game, and a .899sv%. Their 1-6 combined record when Tokarski or Scrivens have played is hurting them right now.

The scoring has evened out. It just took the long road from way up there, to way down here. Basically the entire team was in for a career year offensively after the first month. Price has been that good, and they've gotten far too little from anyone else in net as the season has unfolded.
