If Ulf Samuelsson doesn't win...it's a travesty of justice...New main board discussion! Who is the greatest Swedish defenseman of all time? Guess the nominees!
Twitter just told me that Horcoff may get a lengthy suspension for an off ice issue.
Could happen to a better team.
LOL, where would you be hearing this? On some fantasy fan fiction site?
Since when are ear reduction pills considered a performance enhancing drug?

Ah ****, I think he heard me.
Barkov is a monster that reminds me a TON of Kopitar so makes sense that the deal is similar to Kopi's first.
Barkov will be UFA at 26.![]()

n Toronto, Stamkos' hometown, there's a proposed 53.53 percent federal/provincial tax if he's a Canadian resident. So even if the Maple Leafs offer $10 million annually, Stamkos would net $7 million less total over the length of the deal compared one at $8.5 million annually in Tampa Bay, partly thanks to an eighth year. Stamkos would even make just $1.4 million less total than Kopitar over his eight-year deal with the Kings, assuming Kopitar is a California resident.
The Tampa Bay Times dug deeper into the numbers, with the help of nationally renowned sports tax guru Robert Raiola, revealing potential x-factors: no state income taxes in Florida and the Lightning's ability to guarantee an eighth year on the contract. Raiola calculated that if Stamkos takes $8.5 million with the Lightning, it would net almost the same annually as $10 million in New York, presuming he'd be a New York City resident (see chart). He'd net roughly $500,000 less annually than $10 million deals in St. Louis or Detroit, due to city and state taxes, but take in more money over the length of his contract.
NHL players, paid in U.S. dollars, receive checks every two weeks from the start of the season to the end, broken down into a daily rate for the 186 days on the league calendar.
Each player contributes to an escrow, the percentage varying by quarter, with the most recent 18 percent. After that is taken off the gross pay, players pay agent fees and deductions for a "jock tax," where athletes pay the tax in road cities on days they play, practice or stay there.
The top U.S. Federal tax rate is 39.6 percent, Raiola said. The state rates fluctuate significantly in top tax rates, from 13.3 percent in California (Sharks, Kings, Ducks) and 8.82 in New York to 3.75 in Illinois. Florida, Texas and Tennessee are the only states with NHL teams that don't have state income taxes; Washington D.C. doesn't tax non-residents.
Got Barkov for a bargain. I like the direction the Panthers are headed in. Good for them.
Dale Tallon has done some good work down there.

CA at 13.3%, LOOOOOOOOOLOLOLOL. Ridiculous.
Even more incentive for Kopitar to have gotten everything he could.
He really has done a good job, signed Nick Bjugstad last year, 6 yrs at 4.1 per and now Barkov as a reasonable hit. I guess they'll try to get Eckblad done the same way.
Good young talent, signed and a part of their future.
I can't believe the downward spiral of the Habs. It they lose tonight and the Canes and Senators win, they will be right above the Flyers at #12 in the EC.
It's hard to believe that losing Price did this, there has to be something else wrong, it's like the team totally went pulseless.
I wonder how far they can fall before Therrien, pressure and such, loses his job?
So if I understand right:
Kopitar 80M deal in California will bring him the same money in his wallet as would 69,4M deal in Florida?
No, if you watch them, it's a whole different ballgame.
I guess you could argue that Price gives them confidence to do things, but they're not even going to the net. They look like they're just going thru the motions...they look like they're trying to get their coach fired.
that's kind of insane actually, both of their young, top-end centers at 10 total for the next 5 years?
poised to do some real damage, i'm actually really interested to see how they stack up with the perennial contenders out east this year
“While recovering from an injury I suffered this past fall, I tried a treatment that I believed would help speed up the healing process. Although I was unaware that this treatment was not permitted under NHL rules, that is no excuse whatsoever," Horcoff said in a statement released by the NHLPA. "I should have done my research and I should have checked with the NHL/NHLPA Performance Enhancing Substances Program’s doctors. I accept full responsibility for my actions, and I am sorry. Throughout my entire career, I have felt genuinely blessed and honored to play the great game of hockey, and I regret the impact that this may have on my team and our fans. I look forward to the day I return to the ice for the playoff push.”
i don't see how they haven't fired Therrien at this point
that team isn't lacking enough in talent for them to completely collapse like this, Price or no Price.
getting a bit tired of the "Price is the only reason MTL is good" narrative, they've gotta be doing something really wrong to be playing that poorly with the roster they have. Are they a real cup contender currently? Probably not quite there, but they shouldn't be bottom of the barrel by any means either.
I've been watching more of them since Willie M went there last year and they have a lot of good young talent, 25 or younger. Huberdeau is only 22, Pirri 24, Kulikov 25, Petrovic 23, Gudbranson 24.
And they got Lawson Crouse a big, power winger, in the first round in 2015.
In 2011 they had 7 picks in the first 3 rounds.
Agree. That's the odd part, they shouldn't be losing this many games. And there was high expectations for them this year. I don't think firing the coach is the answer but I wonder if they continue to lose, how much pressure will affect that.
Lack of leadership -big time. Or locker room issue. No logical reason to lose like that.
