Thrashers had to be moved, as they were literally being thrown out of their arena.

From what I remember about that whole situation, the owner of Thrashers who also owns Phillips Arena and the Atlanta Hawks, had no interest in owning the Thrashers and sold them to the highest bidder. Of course, you see the same Canadians who complain about hockey in the desert also act like Canada was robbed of the Montreal Expos, a team that had no support whatsoever and played in a stadium that was the most outdated dump in professional sports.

Stat of the night: DAL, 106 shot attempts. COL, 32 shot attempts. Final score: 3-1 COL. #Varlamov

Gotta feel for Dallas. 9% of Colorado's shot attempts were successful. .9% of Dallas' shot attempts were successful.

Bad news for all the NHL players. Escrow will now be at 18%. It was at 16% since the start of the season. C$ is the reason why it's so high.

that's bad, but weren't people projecting 20%? wouldn't that make this a relative positive?

This article from last week goes into a lot of detail with some very interesting points, about escrow the Canadian dollar , and how it affects the Corporate sponsorship and the NHL Investment bankers. IT talks to the players and what that means to their paychecks and what will happen if the dollar continues to fall.

http://www.tsn.ca/sliding-loonie-may-hit-nhl-players-within-weeks-1.422272

The NHL and NHLPA revisit escrow four times per season as the league readjusts its projected revenue. Escrow money is kept in a fund designed to ensure players get no more than their allotted 50 per cent share of the league's overall revenue.

For a player making $5 million this season, 20 per cent escrow would mean $1 million taken off their paycheque, Gavin said. “They might not get anything of that back. That’s a pretty big blow.”

and this isn't good

David Doyle, a currency analyst with Macquarie Group Ltd. in Toronto who first predicted in February 2015 that the Canadian dollar would fall below 70 cents, now says he believes the dollar will continue to slide to 59 cents.

The current CAP was set when the Canadian dollar was .81. If it dips to .59 that would be a problem for most teams.

One banker in the article said if it is at .65 to .70 the CAP would be 70.5 to 71.5 or so.

Missed that link last week. Thanks for re-posting it.

With war-on-ice soon to shut down, Puckalytics started a GoFundMe page to help build the site and help fill the void. For those who like hockey stats and want to see the Puckalytics site expand its services, you can go to https://www.gofundme.com/3dkwstf8

Some of the things I want to add to Puckalytics.com are:

-Game by game stats
-Score adjusted stats
-Playoff stats
-Improved WOWY (maybe 3 player WOWY for forwards)
-Visualizations
-I had a request for a WAR/GAR stat which I am open to adding
-Possibly hosting community tracking projects like the pass tracking project
-Date ranges would be awesome but this can be costly/challenging.
-Fully integrated salary and salary cap info (could be a partnership with an existing salary cap site)

I'm not affiliated with this site but the more hockey data available, the better, as far as I'm concerned.

I'm sorry about the duplicate post, I didn't see your post. I usually try to read the ones about he CAP and the dollar.

No worries, there is a lot of information out there, and a lot of stuff should be linked more than once, because different people read different threads depending on the subject and context.

I can't find it now, but I read and posted an article from a Canadian economist that indicated that the NHL salary cap would be impacted substantially in the Canadian dollar went below $0.85 USD and stayed there. Well, it's been below $0.85 USD for well over a year now.

I don't know how the NHL does it's cap calculations in regards to currency exchange rates, but I wouldn't be surprised if it was a month-to-month average against each month's revenue collected. Not sure that how it is done matters much at this point. The Canadian dollar is down to it's lowest levels in probably 20 years and it isn't making a huge come back any time soon. It will affect the salary cap.

It's a daily average. And the article you are referring to was talking about last years cap. Of course it will have an effect every year but at the same time every year is it's own entity.

I think it's funny how many people think they are smarter than the Kings brass. Weal will be out of the NHL completely by the end of the season. It's a wonder he even lasted as long as he did on the Kings.

It's not really that hard to imagine. It's easy if you try. No one worse below him. Above him only taller guys...

I understand. But I would have thought, they would give him a game just to see what he's made of. Who knows, maybe he just haven't shown them anything in practice.

Hang in there Weal!

It's hard to believe that Weal can't get in a single game in PHI.

Hasktol was asked about that again last week when Couturier went down and it was felt Weal would play, instead he rolled with Umberger and Gagner. I get playing Gagner, Hexy (from reports) is trying to stir up any kind of interest from anybody to move him. But nobody is taking Umberger and he adds nothing .

Last week, Hasktol said they wanted to get Gagner back up here and 'in' and only that he can trust Umberger generally not to make a mistake, he 'safe'. But they've lost a few games and I think there is pressure to play him.

Today signs point to Weal possibly starting tonight vs the Bruins

http://www.csnphilly.com/hockey-phi...tol-wont-commit-jordan-weal-playing-vs-bruins

What we saw during the morning skate was rookie forward Jordan Weal and veteran defenseman Brandon Manning both working on the second power-play unit.

What we saw in the dressing room was Weal’s locker stall had been re-positioned beside team captain Claude Giroux's while Sean Couturier’s nameplate had been moved to the far corner where injured or scratched players sit.

“There’s a reasonable chance he’ll play tonight,†Hakstol said of Weal. “Everything I am evaluating is off practice time. He is a tenacious player. A skill player. He has some quickness and pace to his game.

Blues and Backes

http://www.stltoday.com/sports/hock...cle_1cddaba1-25d1-5840-95ab-d0a430e03a9e.html

An article on what to do with Backes, whose contract is up. he'll turn 32 in May.
He and his agent turned down (reportedly) 3 yrs and 5.5 per during discussions in training camp. His agent says in the article that they haven't talked since. Trade him b4 the deadline? Not the path a playoff team takes, trading it's captain with a playoff run upcoming. But if he wants more than they'll pay, they risk losing him for nothing if they wait.
I think he should have taken the deal, unless he was eyeing the ridiculous Kessler deal and using that as a measuring stick.

Stamkos

http://www.nhl.com/ice/news.htm?id=799402

Bolts offered 8 yrs/68 Million.
Stamkos said he wouldn't comment , as he's done all year , that he feels that is taken care of internally.

But it points to him moving on, they did their due diligence , presenting an offer. And when you consider they have 8 expiring contracts in 2017, to make decisions on re-signing Kucherov, Victor Hedman, Tyler Johnson, Ondrej Palat, Alex Killorn,Andrei Vasilevski and Ben Bishop, all of whom will be due for new deals by July 2017, you can see why Yzerman has his hands tied.
Hedman will get mucho bucks, and I'm sure that's one contract he's focusing on, he's a stud.

That's the pluses and minuses of a cap. On the one hand, you can't keep a team together for more than a year or two. In a playoff race, with the Lighting and Blues having to worry about whether or not to keep two of their better players, and decent enough chances at a Cup don't come along every day. On the other hand, a lot of teams wouldn't have the rosters they do without it. The Kings being a primary example. There's no reason they would've gotten Richards or Carter. If Richards was declining in Philly, it doesn't matter, because there's no cap. They could've paid Bryzgalov a billion dollars, and wouldn't need to make room for him by shipping Carter out. The Rangers probably don't trade Gaborik.

It's been a will he or won't he? game. Funny part from the article:

When a reporter asked why “Jordan’s stall was moved beside you,†Giroux did a double-take. He jumped up and looked at the name plate.

“I thought you said Jordan Staal,†Giroux laughed.

Hopefully, this time it's for Weal.

Not that I expect a lot from him, but it would be good just to get him in the game just to get the rust off.
