Watching the Caps-Sens game, Mr. All Offense with no backcheck on the Caps 1st goal .I don't think he took a stride once he got to the blueline.

Another great Controller unplugged moment for sure. He literally Glided with no effort at getting the puck. He was definitely saving his strength there now c'mon. And keep in mind he did score a second assist on Ryan's goal. He's still elite. ;)

While watched it, I couldn't help but think of Doughty hauling ass just get into position to try and make a play to stop it.

LOL was thinking the same thing but but remember he has to save his energy. Again he did score his 28th assist tonight so well I guess that cancels out that play. No worries at all. :)

Hope he can keep up his offensive play if the Sens make the playoffs. Not like you need defense in the playoffs. :)

He will he will it's Karlsson he won't need any defense he'll outscore his opponents. They'll lose in the first round again but who cares he's Karlsson he gets a pass. :sarcasm:

I didnt see tonight's but if true then that's several games in a row with this.

As always, people will focus on his offense and forget his gaffes. It's insane. Mike Green 2.0. He's had moments like this all season, INCLUDING the other night (like, why are you in the neutral zone while we are scoring? You weren't doing anything at the other end either!). That's great, you can outscore your problems, but when you're CREATING them, it's an issue. Why do more people not see this? Oh, because like with Doughty, they aren't watching...and those that are watching are ignoring the d-side.

Again, people will dismiss it with "every d-man makes mistakes," but that minimizes just how freaking often he gets caught in an ill-advised pinch, stuck behind the play after a blocked shot or turnover, or flat out burned on defense.

I will 100% be impressed if he gets 80+ points because that's an amazing feat for any player. But that's also 100% besides the point, you give anyone free reign deployment on a bad team and completely look past their mistakes they'll put up points. Maybe not like Karlsson because he has a special offensive talent, but it's a shame his all-around game is being wasted to pad point totals. I bash his defensive game because of what it is, but we've seen at time and in the Olympics what it CAN be; the guy CAN be flat out dominant, nearly Lidstrom-like, so it's appalling to watch him fumble around like a drunk monkey in the defensive zone here as he's planning his next offensive move.

To be fair, Doughty is basically nearly his polar opposite--full on has the capability to be dominant offensively all the time, but doesn't, and instead plays elite defense. Just as frustrating, for sure.

Ottawa ain't gonna sniff the SCF with him as captain/defenseman. No one will. There is no "Karlsson" in TEAM. Kings win 3 in 5, 4 in 6, 5 in 7, and Doughty still loses out on the Norris to some least coast defenseman with no Cups.

Welcome to the NHL of the '10s.

Yeah I mean I actually marvel at Karlsson's offensive game it's seriously something to watch. Probably up there with the best ever. Honestly it would be sick to have him on this team. I've realized that Doughty will never be Karlsson offensively but on the flipside you gotta watch the first goal tonight it's seriously Ovechkin controller disconnected material. And I know it's one play but as kingsfan28 mentioned Doughty would bust his @ss at all costs to get to that puck.

Not sure Doughty wouldnt be as good (or better) than Karlson if Doughty was on a team who's system isnt as defensively oriented as LA.

RyJo: Trouble In Paradise

Seems like the pot is boiling in Columbus, their franchise player is barely clearing 10 minutes of ice time. Of course we would all be smug to the notion painting another star blue jacket black, but what is the most you'd offer. I am not asking what you'd like to offer, but most you'd be willing to give up for Ryan Johansen.

that package is way to much for him a first, our best prospect and serviceable d man. Ouch

Merged the Ryjo thread with "around the league"

IMO CBJ is looking for d-men and that conversation would start with Muzzin and a 1st. Guts us, we don't have the depth for that.

100% agreed.

His ability at getting shots through is Lidstrom-like. When he wires a wrist shot with a clean look, especially with his skating, it's going in. and his offensive IQ is always two steps ahead. Those are all things he has on Doughty--he's better at consistently generating offense with those tools. I think if Doughty had to carry offensively though he'd be up there, we've seen what he can do going end-to-end and we've seen him unsuccessfully feed teammates...problem is, Doughty's shot release is slow, his wrister is borderline awful, he can't get shots through traffic. Now of course on the flipside of that go to defense and it's a different game.

2017 First Round pick , Adrian Kempe , Dwight King/Brayden Mcnabb

Only player id trade Kempe for

There's pretty much nothing left to trade at this point. That said, I would trade McNabb in a package for Johansen in a heartbeat.

Caps Tom Wilson got a match penalty in last nights 2-1 win over Ottawa for a hit on CUrtis Lazar.

I have to agree with Trotz, I don't think it merited a penalty, esp from the other angle, which shows it's a hip on hip.
I don't think the NHL will suspend him.

“You can be your own judge,” Capitals Coach Barry Trotz said. “I don’t even know if that was a penalty in the league. … The point of contact is at his hip. His hands are down. He’s tracking the puck. He’s trying to take his space because Lazar’s cutting, trying to get by our defenseman and he was taking space.

There's a video in the article

**** that. Johansen can suck an egg. Don't want that guy anywhere near our team.

Absolutely. Some of you guys are nuts, wouldn't trade a sack of hockey pucks for that ****ing malcontent.

It still is a TEAM game. Don't want that cancer anywhere around our locker room.

people were calling Carter a premodona and locker room cancer when he was in Columbus too.

I'd take Ry Jo but at the probable cost, it would hurt. Not sure if a change would be good for him or not or if he could survive Sutter.
