people were calling Carter a premodona and locker room cancer when he was in Columbus too.

Yep, I have a lot of faith in the culture of the Kings organization and it's ability to get players to "play the right way".

I think a coach like Sutter and the other people on the Kings development staff can take a player with talent and make that player extremely effective for the Kings.

Carter got a hat trick for his last game in Columbus.

Never saw Carter dog it like Johansen did against the Kings and all the video points made by Mike Milbury last night. Maybe you can enlighten me in regard to that.

enlighten you to what? The fact Milbury is a blow hard? Never saw the videos he posted.

I still don't understand why we would consider trading for a guy on a bridge deal who probably won't be truly happy or productive until he has a max contract.

not to mention you're talking about putting a guy who obviously isn't doing fantastic in a defensively minded system...into our defensively minded system.

if we're breaking the bank and going all-in for a big name guy, it makes a ton more sense to go out and get someone who already potentially fits the team (like Dean did with Lucic) than trying to fit a square peg in a round hole.

not to mention, does anyone really think RyJo would be content to play 3C and third-line minutes?

edit: and for Carter comparisons, take the contract into consideration too...that was not an issue with trading for Carter since he was already signed to a long-term deal, and it very clearly is and was a huge point of contention with RyJo

Johansen is all about the monaaaay. Plus I don't see where the Kings would slot him given they have two better and more rounded centers in Kopitar and Carter.

I'd rather pluck Foligno off of their hands, but that isn't happening.

I would as well, but I doubt that Columbus would move their captain and one of the few guys on the roster that has demonstrated any leadership at all.

was thinking 1 of the 3 would have to move to the wing ala when richards was a top 2.
Issue there is what it does to our wingers.
There are more pressing needs for this club, but Columbus dealing a star reeks of LA stanley cup.

only reason I compared to carter was the presumption that both are a cancer to the blue jackets room

why mess with our current top centers, that's maybe the last thing we should worry about. Carter is VASTLY superior at center, and we already have a logjam of wingers.

We don't need to overpay for a 1/2C, if anything we need a bottom six C if we're talking forwards. Let someone like NSH or MIN overpay for that 1/2C, we just don't really need it.

oh I agree.

It was just last night, I can't find it for you just yet, because it probably hasn't been posted yet. But he showed a number of instances where Johansen dogged it, twice against the Kings as a matter of fact, and if you haven't been watching the games or seen Johansen's act the last couple of weeks, then I am not sure why I am bothering having this conversation with you. Johansen is clearly a cancer, and as reported earlier, he is being healthy scratched tonight.

At least Carter made the effort in Columbus, and as I said earlier, even got a hat trick in his final game in Columbus.

Say what you want about Torts and his philosophy, but when the GM supports his decision that should be red flag for everyone. Scratching someone is usually a last resort kind of thing.

He's an idiot too but Johansen slit his own throat. If he is so stupid that he can't see that the club isn't going to fire another coach six weeks after the last one because he is so precious to the team and that he is going to be the odd man out then he is really ruining his reputation for any suitors he may have in the rest of the league. Everyone in the world except Perro saw that video last night and they have to really be reconsidering whether they would want to give up valuable assets for this prima donna.

Think ol' 'bus is stuck with him for now.

How soon people forget..Carter was labeled as dogging it in columbus as well. He was labelled as a guy who did not care, and did not try defensively. Don't care that he got a hat trick his last game there. As I am just talking about the speculative reports that are out there now with Johansen and that were out there then with Carter.
Who knows maybe if Torts coached Carter he would have been healthy scratched too. Hell at this point it is more likely IMO that Torts is the true cancer in the room not Johansen. Have you been watching Tors "act" the last....well his whole career has been more about him then the players he coaches.
Johansen is a good player and will thrive once he is moved out of columbus as Carter has.
Don't bother finding me quotes from Mike Milbury. I trust homer leaf fans opinions more than his. Anyone can cut film on any player and make it seem like the player was "dogging" it.

edit: try telling any columbus fan that Carter put up an effort there and see the reaction you get. They were pissed at him while he still was there. Johansen they will be sad to see leave

sounds like Johansen is saying the right things. Says it's his fault and he needs to work on things.
team had a players only meeting after the Dallas game.
Doesn't sound like a cancer to me

I sure hope he is for his sake. Still don't want him on my team, though.

Some very talented players just don't mature at the same rate as others. I think I n a way this is similar to what the BRuins went thru with Seguin.

Johansen also realizes that the lack of effort and rumors of contract issues aren't giving him the best reputation around the NHL.
He is avery talented player, he needs to grow up and maybe this past few months is a wake up call.
And if he can't agree to terms on a contract, hopefully he'll change his attitude on whatever team he signs with.

I also don't want Johansen near the kings except on the opposing team.

Another difference with Carter is you had a good number of current Kings who could vouch for Carter. Richards, Gagne, John Stevens, Terry Murray, and most importantly Hextall.

Carter also wasn't nearly as bad on the Blue Jackets as you would be led to believe.

39gp 15g 10a 25pts

Hell, he was trending only slightly lower than his production on the Flyers the previous season.

he had a hairline fracture in his foot that messed him up for a while too. the Carter/Johansen comparison is pretty far off

Precisely. Blue Jackets fans are mad because he openly didn't want to play there and I understand that. I wouldn't like a player that openly didn't like playing for the Kings too, but he still did his job on the ice.

he didnt hold out an entire preseason for a contract extension either. can you imagine if Doughty half assed his way through games after Drewmageddon? we would have been acting the same way (maybe not calling for trades, but still)

Drew was lucky he put his money where his mouth was after that hold out. He would be the most hated King on this board if he didn't.

Sparky gets pulled after allowing two goals in the first 11½ minutes, and leaky Bernier is back in for his coach who has absolutely no confidence in him. Hell, it was either that or get outscored 12-1 in this one. San Jose gets 20 SOG in the first period.
