Pens GM Jim Rutherford when Chicago took the Scuderi deal…

I think the injuries and head hits are catching up to Crosby, he plays like he 35+ years old this season.

Definite slow down.

The team has won 6 in a row WITHOUT McJesus.

That's pretty scary **** right there.

Penguins need to blow it up. Both Crosby and Malkin alone could rebuild a franchise by themselves.

I agree.

Crosby and Malkin had a decade playing together, they won a Cup and went to the Finals early on, but it just hasn't worked since they won the Stanley Cup in 2009.

They could get a really nice return for Malkin.

Given how they're playing now, I think I'd retain Malkin over Crosby. He seems to be playing with more fire and has been vocal in his displeasure with the team's play. Sid has not been the same player he once was.

This year's annual trade Malkin/Crosby thread should be interesting. Will pens fans continue to reject all thoughts on such and scoff "why trade either of the two best players in the world?"

Depth, depth, depth. That's what wins championships. Can't have that when 51 percent of your cap is tied up to five players - Malkin, Crosby, Kessel, Letang, and MAF. ****ing mind boggling. Kessel was such a garbage acquisition.

Now if the Kings could figure out how to convert Corsi into goals they'd be in the running for the Presidents cup every year. Figure out how to generate chances in the half court game. By chances I mean more like generating high quality shots vs point shots into traffic. If they solve this issue they're unstoppable. This could be as simple as improving shots on the team. Some set plays that generate good opportunities like Duncan Kieth's take the puck drive down the wall and dish it for a one timer to the forward circling back into the center of the ice once the defender has committed to Kieth. Mostly figuring out how to make Lewis(Andy)/Shore/Brown score.

Also left out of the article is that while the Kings are playing well, they are around 5th points wise, they have the separation they do because the Pacific is a dumpster fire this year. It's relative to how well the rest of the division is doing. Right now AZ and the Oilers are 2nd and 3rd in the division.

Well yeah, but the only control they have over that is when they play Pacific teams. God knows they need a better record there. But make no mistake, separation or not, they're 2nd in the conference right now...

Edmonton at Arizona in the 1st round if things ended today. Now there's something nobody would've predicted as possible.

Pittsburgh, nobody wants to be the guy that traded Crosby or Malkin. If there even was a chance they would trade Crosby, they'd be selling low on that one. If they traded Malkin, they're trading away maybe their best player on what seems to be a team on the downswing, so what are they adding to? The Penguins are sort of stuck. Tough to trade even one of those two guys, plus it's tough to maybe start rebuilding with having only won once with those two. Don't want to give up whatever chance they have too soon, but the ship seems to be going in a certain direction.

Todd McLellan is a good coach. Also the Oilers finally have some Center depth.

WHen they got Chiarelli, the winds of change began. He knows how to put the pieces in place and I've always liked McLellan, he's good with young players and what he's teaching them is , trying to instill is a winning mentality, something they've lacked for years. When they'd be down 2-1, they'd mentally defeat themselves before the period was done.
That's gone now, and with every game , they're gaining confidence because they believe in themselves. And that will bode extremely well when McDavid comes back.
Draisaitl's a beast and his game is growing by leaps and bounds. This will give them the opportunity to flip RNH for a top Defenseman, which they need. McDavid and Draisaitl give them two very talented, top line centers that will provide what they need going forward for years.

Talbot stopped 47 SOG's in regulation last night, which is what he needed.

Times change. People (especially Edmonton fans) cling to the narrative that Gretzky was traded for money reasons. While somewhat true, Pocklington believed Gretzky was pretty much past his prime and the Oilers could move on without him while simultaneously restocking their cupboard for years to come. And he was mostly right. The Oilers won a Cup Gretzky-less just two years after.

The Penguins may be reaching that point with Crosby. Something's clearly not working in Pittsburgh, and Malkin is and has been the better on ice contributor for some time. And even selling low on Crosby would net an absurd return, the most absurd return we've seen since the Gretzky trade. One or two valued roster players, a top prospect, and multiple high round picks. Every single team in the league would be interested in Crosby, because you would most likely be sending salary back in the form of your own top guys.

I've been advocating that for a couple of years now. Team has no identity and no leadership. It's not built right. Shero spend too many years trading away draft picks and prospects for that veteran guy who would 'be a difference maker' i n the playoffs. A constant revolving door of players that gives no time to develop the kind of spinal column you need to become a true contender. Playing for the guy next to you, esp in the playoffs, making that sacrifice isn't easily achieved when you don't know who he is . Swinging for the fences gets you more strikeouts than home runs, something Homer never learned in 10 years of bleeding the Flyers dry.
I don't know if Rutherford has the balls to pull off that kind of move but he should ,because the clock is ticking. Crosby and Malkin are in the end of their prime years nad moving one or both now would be the best way to go
I think Malkin is more complete player, I'd keep him but they won't. If push comes to shove, they'll move him over Sid. And they outta dial Nashville and trade him for Weber before the Oilers get Weber.

Jets contracts - Ladd seeking 6.8, Byf 6.87 and Trouba 7 .

http://www.winnipegfreepress.com/sp...ng-Jets-for-152M-in-contracts--361904251.html

The Winnipeg Jets are facing more than $152 million worth of future contract demands from three key players who are in expiring years of their contracts.

League and player sources have confirmed that Jets captain Andrew Ladd has asked for a six-year deal worth at least $41 million, that defenceman Dustin Byfuglien has requested $55 million over eight years and that defenceman Jacob Trouba wants more than $56 million over the maximum eight years allowed in the league’s CBA with its players.

They also have Mark Scheifele and Adam Lowry on the last year of their deals.

I know the 'asking' price is a starting point but no movement in all these months seems to be that the Jets number and term is a lot lower.

Trouba...really???
