Crazy how Stoll was like THE premier checking line 3C just a couple years ago.

Then again, Richards was a premier 2C a couple years ago.

Stuff happens quickly, the fact is neither guy was an NHL'er last season, it was amazing the Kings even sniffed a playoff spot having two AHL caliber centers for most of last season. Hell the Kings won a cup towing the Richards anchor in 2014, although MR tried his best to almost singlehandedly lose that Chicago series. That tells you just how strong the Kings core of players is that they were able to carry guys like this, and now look at this season, no one close to as bad as these guys and the team has a legit chance to win a Presidents Trophy.

Stoll and Richards both had good careers, won multiple championships and made plenty of money, they can be happy for that but boy did it collapse quick.

I talked to a friend of mine who is a Rangers fan regarding Stoll before he was waived. He said that Stoll simply can't keep up with the Rangers' up tempo style of play. He was just a bad fit. I think a team that plays more of a cycle down low style could make use of him on the fourth line. Also, even with his drug issues, I think his leadership will be very useful in Edmonton or Calgary.

I was just thinking of how Richards was oddly good against the Ducks and yet so poor against the Hawks. Maybe it was just the difference in pace of games, but boy - seemed like a marked difference.

Both will be back in prime form in a few years!!!

Hopefully both have invested their earnings properly and have a nice nest egg. Doubt it though.

Frank Seravalli (TSN) wrote an article about the Pens new coach and what he expects from the team
Within the article :

http://www.tsn.ca/mondaymustread-sullivan-s-plan-plays-to-the-heart-of-pens-lineup-1.408885

With Kris Letang out for the next two weeks, the average salary of Pittsburgh’s seven healthy defencemen is $1.38 million. Four Penguins blueliners will earn less than $1 million this season. Of those, only Olli Maatta is on an entry-level contract. These are the bargain players Rutherford chose to round out a purported Stanley Cup contender.

yeah...that's rough.

Also...I think this is a very valid point

Except, Johnston focused more on how to hide the Penguins’ warts. His scheme centered around asking Crosby and Malkin to do more defensively. Crosby, 28, seemed disinterested - at best - and his production (6-13-19 in 28 games) has plummeted to a career-worst .21 goals and .68 points per game (see table below).

The belief in Pittsburgh is Johnston spent so much time burying the Penguins’ weaknesses that he lost sight of the fact he had two or three of the most gifted offensive players of this generation at his disposal.

Nate Thompson of the Ducks suspended 3 games for an illegal head hit in Justin Faulk when the Hurricanes blew them out.

But hey, according to the masses, the Kings are a dirtier team, right?

Jack Johnson decides not to sue his parents (who have no money anyway)

http://www.tsn.ca/talent/coupon-clipping-nhler-won-t-sue-parents-over-bankruptcy-1.409010

It mentions in the article that he gave up his more expensive townhouse for a cheaper one in the suburbs, that he clips coupons to save money and then says he has 3 BMW's and a 2011 Ferrari and his take home pay is over 338K a month. So he's pulling up to Save-A-Lot in his Ferrari with his coupons...okay.

JOhnson and his attorney met with his parents last Feb, where his father claimed an income of 15K a year since 2007 mostly doing odd jobs. I guess that was all he had time for since most of his time was spent finding ways to drain his son's bank account

During that meeting, Johnson’s parents explained their precarious finances. The last time Johnson’s father earned more than $100,000 was in 2006 or 2007. Since then, his income has been about $15,000 per year, for cutting down trees, shoveling garbage, washing cars, and “doing everything he can to put food on the table.â€

It's an awful situation but Jack and his reps seem to be milking the victim card a bit to much here for my liking.

Jack will be fine financially, he may retire with tens of millions but he will be fine. He is going to get another big contract in a few years.

And as far as coupon clipping goes, Jack just learned that from former teammate Ryan Smyth.

I can't believe he made it this long. Will be interesting to see if he pulls a Hunter and goes down to the minors or he quits like Moreau. If he were making $3m I think he would go down, but is it worth it to ride buses and live the AHL life for 800k for a guy with career earnings of $20m.

When you have made millions over your career there is absolutely no reason to be toughing it out in the AHL just to make more money. If he planned wisely, such investing in commercial property or even buying a few apartments, he should be able to support himself for a long time.

This is the one reason why I am surprised when the likes of Kopitar drag out negotiations over a million extra pay every season. Yes, I get it, a million is still a million no matter how wealthy you are, but he can always make that money by putting his already earned money into play.

If Stoll was smart, he would be sending out calls to GM's asking if they need a Face-off/DEF or fitness trainer, coaching positions open.

I doubt Lombardi would want Stoll around. Maybe in a few years after the air is clear.

Also provided Stoll shows some good faith/progress that he is clean.

He's still at close to 58% FO win%. That could help someone. I know his corsi is terrible but so is the teams. And with him winning that many draws sounds like they just can't keep the puck after he wins it for them.

Except that on far too many shifts, 'he' is a part of the 'they' that can't keep the puck in the zone. Being good of faceoffs doesn't merit a roster spot when there's little else there to offer.

LA's FO% is < 50% but LA is among (if not tops) league leaders in crosi..maybe FO% is not as important as some of us think.
I have always thought it to be crucial, but am starting to rethink that

NHL trade rumors-

Not too many rumblings this weekend, the one that has been around for a few weeks resurfaced again with the Ducks shopping Fowler. The Pens, Canes and 'two other Eastern Conf teams' as parties offering forwards.

And Friedman noting that the Caps might listen to offers for forward
Marcus Johansson because he's one year away from UFA status and they think Burakovsky will be a good fit on top 6 at LW.

I would love it if Anaheim traded their best D (or at least one of) for Skinner.
