They dealt from a position of strength to fill a glaring need up front, different conferences, think it's' good deal for both imo.

This exactly, and though it wasn't really shocking, this is exactly what I thought it would be the moment Johansen wanted out. Both organizations benefit perfectly, it's exactly what Nashville needed...though his attitude will need to be checked, they definitely have the D to cover for his...focus.

Good deal for both, I think Nashville was stuck knowing that they'd have a hard time on that budget putting so much money towards their D.

Columbus could maybe gamble now that they're in line for a top 5 pick for June which is forward heavy up top.

Didn't realize Dave Polly was addicted to purple drank. What the **** is he thinking?

If there's a team that can adapt to trading a top defenseman, it's Nashville. Johansen has his issues, but he does have the talent to be a #1C. The Preds have been trying to get over the hump for years. They have to win at some point, or start over. Weber is 30. Rinne is 33. They're not that far ahead of Arizona or Calgary anymore. Or Colorado, Winnipeg, or even Anaheim if they keep playing better. They've been under .500 since their 6-0-1 start or whatever it was.

It's like the Lombardi with Richards in 2011. You have to take a risk. How long has Poile been making the safe move?

You're a little late Dee.

Wouldn't be the first time...LOL

IMO Great trade for the BJ's. I see a lot of potential in Jones, esp leadership. When Weber went down in the playoffs to injury, Jones was a young d in his first SC playoff run and stepped up bigtime, showing it on all shifts, never hesitated. Youi can't teach that kind of leadership or wherewithal to perform that well under that kind of pressure, you either have it or you dn't. He has it. I haven't seen that in Johansen, who has size skill and speed but tends to act immaturity and pout.
And given what his contract demands were for the LTC he wants, good luck to Poile there..
COuld be RJ will grow up in Nashville...good for them if he d oes.

And if the BJ's finish 30th, they get Matthews in the draft.

Jarmo is a ****ing genius for pulling this off. Wow.

Johansen is a talented offensive player, which is something Nashville needed. Time will tell if the coaches and management can reshape this kid's head and make him a team first player.

My guess is he will flourish initially with some of the talented wingers that are on Nashville's team.

This is a good hockey trade IMO as Columbus gets a young defenseman that can be a #1. Both teams gave to get.

Players the Blue Jackets have traded away since 2011.

It's an entire team!

This is one of those few trades that had been discussed on messageboards for awhile and actually happens.

I love Jones, but Nashville was simply not winning a championship with that group of forwards. It is a bit of a dice roll with RJ, but his upside is through the roof and you just hope that a fresh start in a veteran heavy room that he can realize his potential.

Nashville was wasting the prime years of Shea Weber, they had to do something to get a potential #1 center.

Kings are going to get a tougher match-up winning the division than they would if they come in 2nd. Both wild cards will come from the Central, which will be tougher match-up's than anything the Pacific can muster. Bleh.

So the Kings should be scared of Minnesota or Nashville?
Kings would murder a smallish team in Minny and handle Nashville in 6 games

NSH finally gets their 1C after an eternity, but Johansen is a question mark for me. First trade I've ever called that actually happened, a lot of naysayers saying Jones for Johansen would never happen. We'll see how it works out, but both teams got exactly what they needed.

Still having a hard time thinking Jones for Johansen is good for Nashville. I wouldn't touch RJ with RP's junk.

I can think of a million zingers to this but I like you Bandit so I will pass for now. (That and I'm presently infraction-free and would like to stay that way.)
