I'd rather all the Kings get the rest instead.

If the novelty of the WC has worn off, then all-star games have been rubbed from existence. There was a time when getting all the stars together that not everybody gets to see made sense. There was even some conference pride. Now you have free agency, and the ability to watch any and all games or highlights whenever and wherever you are. There's no more wow, I get to watch Tyler Seguin! Except you can watch every Stars game in any city. In meaningful games, where players try.

That's why we get the skills competition, which has also become a joke. The draft. The new formats almost every year. They're throwing every idea at the wall. It's just a game/event/idea that isn't relevant. Somehow it makes them money though, so they'll keep up the show.

Can't bring TT because Doughty, Quick.

If not Perry, who would the Ducks send?

Fowler would have been my choice if he hadn't gotten injured. Vatanen would have been a decent choice as well.

gibson is going despite only playing 12 games or some ****

True but who else could have been sent anyway from this division as the second goalie? He probably won't play anyway seeing as how the Pacific will likely get eliminated from this tourney pretty quickly.

Every team gets a player.
Since the goalies only play part of the game they may not count.
So who do you pick on the Ducks besides Gibson or Perry?

I hope Sutter play Gibson for the whole game and I hope the Pac wins and he plays Gibson for the whole second game as well :)

Maybe Gibson will get the dreaded "lower body" injury as well. :)

It's just a joke!

That's the downside of having all-star games for contact sports. Players don't feel compelled to try because they don't want to risk injury or play at a high intensity over something as trivial as an all-star game. It's why the Pro Bowl has the same problem too. Then you look at a sport like baseball which isn't a contact sport and their all-star game is incredibly popular despite having something as stupid as having the winner determine home field advantage for the World Series.

I'm going to ask Ray Fosse about this.

THN.com Roundtable: Four bold predictions for 2016

The Lightning will re-sign Stamkos — then trade him

Steven Stamkos will sign an eight-year contract extension with the Tampa Bay Lightning matching dollar-for-dollar the $84 million deals signed by Patrick Kane and Jonathan Toews…then immediately be traded to the Detroit Red Wings along with Jonathan Drouin just before the trade deadline.

Faced with the prospect of losing him for nothing, Lightning GM Steve Yzerman will orchestrate a “sign-and-trade” deal for Stamkos with the Red Wings that will allow Stamkos to go to the team of his choice and get an eight-year deal, getting around the seven-year deal he would have had to sign with Detroit if he were to become an unrestricted free agent in the summer. The price for Stamkos and Drouin will be steep – sniper Gustav Nyquist, a pair of 24-year-old pending restricted free agents in Riley Sheahan and Alexey Marchenko, along with top prospect Anthony Mantha and the Red Wings first-round pick in 2016 and 2017. Stamkos will immediately go back to his center position, moving the aging Pavel Datsyuk down to a checking role more suited to him on the third line. (Ken Campbell)

Ducks turn it around, make Western Conference final

The Ducks have been one of the most surprising teams in the NHL this season for all the wrong reasons. Anaheim’s offense has been non-existent, their goaltending has been mediocre and they’ve spent most of the season trying to get into a playoff position in the poor Pacific Division. It seems like the Ducks are starting to find their stride, though.

After scoring once in 28 games, Ryan Getzlaf has two goals in his past five games. Ryan Kesler has goals in back-to-back games. Corey Perry, as always, has consistently found the scoresheet. The defensive woes have lessened, and Anaheim looks to have found a goaltender that can steal them games in 22-year-old John Gibson. In 15 appearances, Gibson is 8-4-2 with four shutouts and a sparkling 1.63 goals-against average and .932 save percentage.

The Ducks have also been formidable in the puck possession game. If things start clicking, the only thing that stands in the way of the Ducks will be the Los Angeles Kings. But coach Bruce Boudreau has gotten his team through the worst of the season, and Anaheim will turn it on come playoff time. (Jared Clinton)

from the pacific I think that Jones deserves over Gibson.
Miller has been injured, smith is brutal and has been injured, from the Oilers neilson had a good stretch but not better overal work than Jones, same with Ramo and Calgary, so really only leaves Jones.
Anderson has been decent but the team has been **** in front of him when he has been in

I think the Ducks are going to finish 2nd, to be honest.

Their CF% is right behind us (3rd overall behind us) and they've just had crap luck with shooting percentages.

Roster changes and injuries have affected them, but that team is adaptable and much more complete than the other teams in the division. I'd expect them to have a huge second half, and they don't even really need to in this division. Calgary is going to be a pain in the ass of course, as is San Jose, and Edmonton will put on a late push but fall short.

I could see the Ducks making the second round because the other team finishing 2/3 in the Pacific may be as big or a bigger joke.

They got to start putting pucks in the net, simple as that. Getzlaf has started to look a little better but still nowhere near where he should be. They need players like Silfverberg to step up, more goals need to come from players not named Perry, Vatanen, and Rakell. The defense has been great but they still have yet to beat a quality team in this run; they'll face quite a few during this homestand. Of course, being in this division this year is some sort of divine intervention.

Adam Portzline reporting (via multiple sources) that trade talks heating up between the Jackets and Preds

Johansen would be the heart of the deal but BJ's looking to move a long term contracts as well, Hartnell and Tyutin are mentioned.

I hope to hell Poile doesn't give up Jones...he's be insane to do that. Weber would be the better player to move, I think Josi and Jones should be the future of the d.

Kerby Rychel (who they've been shopping since summer) is also in play.

Another case of GM speak as well. Poile said just a few weeks ago no D men were being traded. What that actually means is that no deal was being discussed that could get him to trade one at that time.
