How fast was he going? Did he strap rockets to his car...that's like $135k in speeding tickets...

Sabres' Rasmus Ristolainen reportedly fined $135,000 for speeding in Finland

Sabres defenseman Rasmus Ristolainen has been fined $135,000 and faces a three-month suspended license for speeding in Finland, according to a report from Finnish news outlet Ilta-Sanomat.
Ristolainen was driving 50 mph in a 25 mph zone in his Mercedes-Benz G 500 off-road vehicle in Turku on May 3, the report said. The incident happened on a Friday afternoon when there was a lot of traffic in the area, according to the report.
The newspaper said the fine is believed to be the most ever for a speeding ticket in Finland. Ristolainen could choose to appeal.
During a court appearance, Ristolainen admitted that he was speeding but said the speedometer did not properly show how fast he was going, according to the report. He also outlined the safety features of his car in order to mitigate the fine.

He was doing an overtaking at the time on a straight road of two lines. He claimed the speeding was only momentary, and there was no evidence of contrary in the court.

40 day-fines, comes to a hefty amount with his income.

I think in Finland (Lempo maybe can correct me if I'm wrong), you get fines based on what your income is. That's why speeding tickets can be enormous for athletes and other rich people.
Yes. This is the day-fine type fine that you get for example for speeding in excess of 20* kmph of the limit, and for crimes in general. The single day-fine is determined by your income, and you get slapped with X amount of day-fines.

There is also lesser misdemeanor fine with fixed amount of money if you stay under 20* kmph with your pedal foot.

I think there might still be cases where the minimum income folks with day-fine of 6 euros apeesh will get less fine if they have the wits to go above the threshold.

The worst speeding ticket in Finland ever is only 25 mph over the speed limit? (and mph? don't they use kilometers there?)

Apparently so. It was 40 kmph and 82 kmph in the old money. That's pretty bad speeding percentually. You're expected extra carefulness in the 40 kmph areas so you don't maul kids and the elderly.

50 kmph is the official "dense habitation" area speed limit. 40 kmph is a showy version of it that many towns have been opting for lately.

I actually kind of like this.

Poor people (me) don't speed because the possiblity of getting a $200 speeding ticket is a major deterrent. $200 for somebody making a million dollars a year is pocket change.

I kind of like this day-fine/fine system, too.

Their "dense habitation" limit of 50 km/h (circa 30 mph), lowered by many localities to 40 km/h (circa 25 mph) is around the threshold where more pedestrians are maimed/killed than simply injured as a result of collisions.

Trigger point for day fines being set at 20 km/h is about 12 mph over for us with the clunky non-metric system here in the states.

That's not much of an overage for high-speed areas. Would be easy to exceed. But does make sense for lower speed zones.

The asterisk in 20 kmph was meant to meant it's not the universal. The speeding threshold triggering day-fine is lower in lower speed limit areas.

Sorry, I was BSing. Apparently it is 20 kmph all around. The amount of petty fine is different with speedings in 60 kmph limit areas than those areas with higher speed limit. Or at least will be, the legislation on the matter is about to be changing.

Teemu Selanne was fast on the ice and the road.
Better to drive fast in California.

I don't know about Dzingel. He is adequate player, good fit for speedy third line but nothing more. Not much two-way game, not much physical presense. I prefer Ferly. He's good teammate, he's what we miss as big body, as big punisher, solid on Aho's wing. While I think a lot of people overrate Ferland, especially because his playoffs performance with Flames, he's still better than Dzingel.

Tuomo Ruutu got a job in the Rangers organization, in developing the European draftees. Believes that Kakko is ready for NHL.

Before a game at KBA last season I was outside the Tims at Harbor Center and some guy shoots down the street like a bat out of hell with the engine revving like a drag racer. My friend then tells me "Yup, that's Risto." So yeah.
I'm reminded of Jari Kurri telling of the time when he loaned his car for a
the promising youngster Teemu Selanne. Really nice car, with nice new tires. There wasn't much left of them when Teemu returned it.

He told it at the Selanne jersey retirement Anaheim threw a couple of years back.

Toronto's defense is such a double edge sword for them. In the best case scenario from a team-success standpoint all of Barrie/Ceci/Muzzin have great years. However from a team-building every single one is a pending UFA and a great year would mean huge raises across the board. And the Canes own their 1st round pick so their options of kicking the can down the road (a-la Muzzin) are limited.
