How can anyone be upset with either the Nash trade or the Gaborik trade?

Nash is a great player, but with him on the team, the team wasn't doing anything. The players we got in return have helped this team establish itself with an identity - something it never had in the past.

On the contrary, the Gaborik trade was born out of necessity above all else. It helped the team continue an incredible streak that left us finished tied for the last playoff spot in the league - something nobody would have dreamed up in February, or even early March. Yes, we had to pay to get him here - but what's important is that we retained all three of our first round picks in getting a guy with 40 goal skill. Brassard will never be anything more than a second line center ... and here, he wasn't even giving us enough of that. He needed a change of scenery bad - and sending him to New York was as big a help to him as it was to us. Same goes for John Moore, who was likely to be lost in the mix of young defensemen in the system, already surpassed by Tim Erixon, and made expendable by the solid defense of Dalton Prout, as well as upcoming Ryan Murray. The last piece, Derek Dorsett, is a third line wing at best ... while I'll miss his effort and determination, his production is easily replaceable, and we have a handful of other guys who do the same thing, only more effective.

I can't complain about either trade, with full honesty. Essentially, we part with Nash, a couple of mid round picks, Brassard, Dorsett, and Moore ... and come away with Dubinsky, Gaborik, Anisimov, Erixon, and a first. When you look at it that way, I think we upgraded on every player except for maybe Rick Nash ... and that's only because he brings more tangibles than Marian Gaborik.

I'm not going to go cry because we traded Moore, Brass and Dorse, because they were redundant in our lineup, but those were still solid valuable trade assets that we moved for a guy with one year left on his contract.

And how many of us really think Gaborik was that much more helpful than Brassard was in our playoff chase? Gaborik had 3 goals and 5 assists, +5, in the 12 games post trade. Brassard had 4 goals and 3 assists, +5, in the 12 games pre-trade.

And what's with this argument that its a good deal because we didn't trade away any of our 3 first round picks? What does that have to do with any of this? They wouldn't have disappeared if we didn't do the deal. Are our standards so low that its praiseworthy that they haven't vanished? Should we be thankful to Jarmo for not throwing in Bobrovsky in the Comeau deal?

Brassard 1st star in the game for Rangers win :)

You are trying too hard to feel like NY won this trade, we get it. We wish nothing but success for the former Jackets in NY (except when they play us of course. :)) I don't think you will find many on this forum that aren't thrilled with the return we got from NY from both of our trades. After years with Nash, Brassard, Dorsett, and Moore not getting it done with Columbus, we are quite happy with the recent culture change in which a big part can be attributed to our newly acquired Blueshirts. GL to you guys in the Playoffs, but not too much luck as we would like that 1st to be as high as possible. Take Care. ;)

Gaborik had 3 goals and 5 assists, +5, in the 12 games post trade. Brassard had 4 goals and 3 assists, +5, in the 12 games pre-trade.

Here are some numbers Crede posted on the Main in a thread on the trade:

"Columbus went 9-3-0 since the trade deadline. They were 15-14-7 before that. Before the trade they got 51% of the points available per game (37 out of a possible 72). After the trade, they got 75% of the possible points (18 out of a possible 24)."

As usual, it is much too early to judge the ultimate results of either the Nash or the Gaborik trades. Hmmm, is there anyone who would refer to it as the "Brassard trade"?

Per usual people want a winner and instant gratification. I will say one thing, the Rangers on the back end last night looked like a team that couldn't make a decision with the puck. Both teams looked like they were skating in mud at times. I don't want them enough to know if this is normal.

However, I have watched enough to know that Brassard is an incredible help for them on the PP. Stepan isn't handling the playoffs very well. I am happy that we get Dubinsky (not a reflection on Stepan). Hell Moore looked like a huge upgrade for them on the PP last night.

Brassard is excelling with more ice available to him. The move to the East is going to help him until he faces the Bruins or us next season.

JR and Milberry sure ripped Nash last night.

I missed most of the game last night but Milbury was on him during game two, too...

The game winning tip-in by Stepan would not have happened had Nash not made the pass so he was a big factor in that win... just saying.

They had a point, but Nash stepped it up as time went on. I didn't see the last part of the third. I don't remember if it was this game or another, but they pointed out an issue we had with Nash while he was here. To be fair it was with the whole team. When on the PP we would allow even number battles on the boards on the PP. We would lose the battle with the free man standing and watching instead of helping. Puck would then leave the zone. You want numbers to help gain puck possession.

Man I wish LA and STL could both lose this series.

I still can't believe LA won that game. I went to bed went STL went up 2-0 and in this series I though that was a mortal lock.

Gotta a feeling that LA pick might take a tumble....

Although the LA freeway series (ANA-LA) would be awesome.

Now watch boring Detroit and there vanilla team with a couple old fogey superstars beat the Ducks:cry:

Sens tie the game with 22 seconds left. Also Marc-Andre Fleury is horrible, 14 goals against in 3 games.

Just watched the Sens-Habs and Pens-Isles on dtmts. Wow! Whatever I was saying about the playoffs not being exciting this year, I take it back. We had the bloodwar the other day in Ottawa, and the Kings-Blues series has been a war too.

Go Islanders!

That's one team below the Kings to advance. Now if the Blues can finish the Kings off that would be great. Go Isles, Sens, Wins & Caps.

As long as LA doesn't make it to the final four, their pick will occur before the Caps because the Caps were a division winner.

The Sharks winning this round doesn't mean anything for their draft pick, relative to the Kings, unless the Sharks can win the next round.
