Mrazek bailed us out of the first Carolina game.

I never understood the point of comments like these.

We would lose every game if not for the players. Just imagine, if nobody showed up all season we would probably go 1-81! (With a win against the Leafs of course)

The point is you can't expect to win many games in which you allow 50 shots on goal. We won that one but it's not going to happen often. Gotta play better.

Being a goalie myself, I have no problem with this. There are certainly games that a goalie stands on his head and almost singlehandedly keeps his team in it.

Mrazek was superb against Carolina in that first game and if he was just okay, we probably get blown out because the rest of the players (sans the first line and I guess Pulkkinen in the third) weren't good.

Friedman:

10. A couple of defencemen to watch as the season progresses: St. Louis’s Carl Gunnarsson and Carolina’s Ryan Murphy.

Gunnarsson gained time with Kevin Shattenkirk’s injury, but is the Blues fourth defenceman right now, behind Jay Bouwmeester, Colton Parayko and Alex Pietrangelo. If Parayko can keep it up, you wonder if Gunnarsson would be available. He’s a free agent next summer.

11. As for Murphy, his entry-level deal ends this season and the Hurricanes are building a decent prospect base along the blueline. He’s never held a spot there. Murphy was over 20 minutes the first three games, then dropped to 14:40 and 18:49. Maybe he gets a chance to re-start somewhere else.

Either of those guys worth taking a stab at?

Because we need a clear upgrade, We would be looking for a top pairing RHD and as of now Murphy doesn't fit the bill. Pretty sure that any one of Ouellet/Marchenko would be just as good.

While true the Wings are looking for a top pair RHD, Murphy would be an upgrade on Smith and is definitely better than Ouellet and Marchenko. Not to mention, he is only 23 years old.

Saw someone mention somewhere that Murphy has a good bit of potential. Don't know enough about him to say whether or not he'd be an immediate upgrade though.

Potential is fine maybe he does have a good bit of potential, Pretty sure that the same could be said with either Marchenko or Ouellet but right now neither one is with the team. Gunnarsson right now would definitely be a better upgrade then Murphy imo.

Agree right now Gunnarsson can't be any worse then Smith, Kindl and Big E I might take a flyer on him. Pretty sure that he could be had for cheap if the Blue are truly looking to unload on him.

So you would take a flyer on someone who can't be any worse than what we have, makes 2.95mil and is left handed over Ryan Murphy who is clearly better than Smith, Kindl makes 885k(RFA) and is right handed?

Murphy is someone I'd definitely go after depending on the price (Pulks + pick range maybe.) He is better offensively right now than any of our defensemen other than Green and Kronwall.

Has Murphy cleaned up his D at all? IIRC when he was drafted they were discussing how he was pure offence and his future depended on if he could figure out a little D

Think Jurco + Smith could get it done? Or is that not enough?
