Let's cut to the chase, if you still don't think Trotz has completely lost it just let me know now....

I don’t. Even with this dumpster fire of a season- easily the worst since Bruno scored that first franchise goal, and I’ve seen them all- this thing needs time to judge. Drafts need to be assessed. A team made in his image needs to be seen. He’s much more aggressive than Poile and I expect we will indeed wind up way one side or the other of the mush middle but I’m not ready to say it will be the wrong side.

If we're going into a full-on rebuild (which you're describing, and which Trotz has specifically said he won't, by the way), RoR is one of the last guys one should give up. Not until he's a pending UFA at the earliest. The same sorts of middle-of-the-roster aging experienced vets that folks love for playoff renals are exactly the same sorts of guys you need to make sure kids are developing in a healthy environment. Don't let Bruno's dumbassery lead you to the misapprehension that we somehow have to get rid of them so the kids have room to thrive. That problem is solved by getting rid of the coach, not the vets.

He’s toast. He was slow last year. This year he looks like he’s skating thru molasses. The impact he had was on a guy like Vange last year was noticeable. I don’t see it this year.

Trading for Cozens will be a massive mistake. Put it in the pot of old takes that are bang on. You guys are about as bad at GM-ing as NoNeck at this point. We are the worst team in the league. You think a 2C at 7 million is what this organization needs after this past summer? The same group hating on Saros’ contract, now want Cozens? Seriously. We’re in the shit right now. No way around it. The only guy on this roster above the age of 28 I would care to keep is Forsberg. We have the worst team in the league while continually getting older. We have to get rid of these old, “core” guys that clearly will never get us where we want to be. It is a shame NoNeck gave out the contracts he did this past summer. He set us back 2-3 years even if we didn’t know it at the time. It is also a damn shame we have given away/squandered young guys that had promise or value at one point.

Cozens is only 23 and we're getting a top 5 pick as well (barring anything tragically stupid). Stamkos' contract will be up before he's 26. Cozens, Hagens, ROR isn't the worst center depth to build with going forward, assuming the return isn't enormous

You can’t bank on a top 3 pick. Assume that is where a C like Hagens goes? Have you seen how the past lottery odds have shaken out? This team is a long way from a top 3 pick, a 2C, and ROR who is getting slower by the month from being a contender imo. It’s going to take patience and we aren’t in a position to give up any decent assets for what gives me flashbacks to turris except Cozens has already been paid.

Even with our ramshackle defense and offensive inconsistency, some of these teams are really, really bad and are going to sink further as they offload talent that we are NMC'd into keeping. The catalog of #1 centers in the #8-12 range is probably going to be a bit thinner than we'd like.

Even with our ramshackle defense and offensive inconsistency, some of these teams are really, really bad and are going to sink further as they offload talent that we are NMC'd into keeping. The catalog of #1 centers in the #8-12 range is probably going to be a bit thinner than we'd like.

That and as it becomes clearer and clearer that your team isn't good, opposing teams don't trot out their best against you, making it easier to get results. You start seeing more and more backup goaltenders, for example.

The easy answer, Bruno, is that we don't have three guys who skate well enough to keep up with the other team's three guys, and there is too much open ice in OT to be able to disguise that.

Goes hand in hand with what our GM is saying. While other teams are going to realize the playoffs are out of reach and start selling what they can, our GM is telling the media that he's a winner and going to do whatever it takes to win the next game.

We can just keep on taking it for granted that he was terminated and his Cap space is evapourated. Might as well. Half the season is already gone. Even if he got reinstated now, it's already pro-rated 50%. But this might go on all season, that seems to be what all sides are tacitly agreeing on via inaction?

Honestly, im fine with buying to set us up for next year. As long as Trotz fully understands this season is lost and we arent adding players in their 30s hoping to sneak into the playoffs.

Shop for a young 2C or young potential top pairing RHD. Look at Zegras, Cozens, etc.

Yeah I think it’s all about who he’s getting and what he gives up. Trying to add younger guys to fill the gaping holes in our lineup and start playing for next season wouldn’t bother me. I doubt it actually plays out anyway that I end up liking but it is possible at least.

I don't know, guys. From those articles, etc. just in the last couple of days, Trotz sounds like a guy who is still in win now mode. He actually thinks this car just needs to come into the pits, get a new pair of tires and a little gas, and it will come back from 15 laps down...

If I'm the GM and know the season is lost and trying to build for the future, wouldn't I want to see what I have in the kids? Everyone is so concerned with he's not a fourth line guy or he's not getting slotted into the right situation.

Does that really matter right now? I'd rather put our best forwards on the ice with the kids that I want to get a feel for than playing guys that have no future with the team after next season, hopefully sooner to be honest. I guess that's the point of going after Cozens. Great. What about Kemell, Svechkov, Schaeffer? I want to know if they can do this at the NHL level.

Here's the thing, we're doing it with the defensemen right now. Lauzon is next out the door.

Bring up Svechkov and Kemell, pair them with ZLH since they've played together before and see what they do. If you're feeling saucy, put Schaeffer with ROR and Nyquist for the time being or even Novak and Vange. Sometimes instead of overcooking maybe you see if they sink or swim or if they tread water. If they sink, they go back to the AHL and you pretty much know there's not much there. If they tread water, they go back to the AHL to work on their game but know what's expected of them at the NHL level. If they swim, you have another piece of the puzzle gaining experience.

Oh, and for the love of all things holy, get Parssinen back in the lineup. When a player makes Erik Karlsson look good on defense, they have no business being in the NHL, I'm looking at you Cole Smith. And one other thing, coffee talking right now, why does Willy feel the need to say Cole Smith as opposed to just calling him Smith? Is there another Smith I'm not aware of currently on the team? And one other other thing, ZLH missed the net with a shot last night and Willy calls him out by saying he missed badly. He pissed me off because he's critical of the young players and the vets do the same thing and they're unlucky or things just aren't go their way. Either call it down the middle and treat everyone the same or get out of the announcers booth.

Agreed. The team is too good to be at the bottom. I expect them to finish around 10-13 tbh.
