I look at the Dubois trade where he was given for virtually free after a subpar season or 40 points and Cozens now almost 1.5 seasons deep into a mid 40 point pace and ask why should we have to pay much more then that? I understand there are differences in age and Cozen's caphit is better but that contract is also longer and Cozen's doesnt have the track record of being a 60+ point performer. Dubois 3 seasons of 60+ points and 28ish goals vs Cozens 1 season of 60+ points and 31 goals.

Couple in Kakko getting traded for next to nothing. Draft pedigree be damned. Dollar for dollar Kakkos contract is much better even though he hasnt hit the high that Cozen's has hit. He also doesnt have the commitment so you can just walk away no harm no foul. Cozen's doesnt rebound and it is a buyout
THIS.

Buffalo fans can be taken aback if they want and threaten to just keep Cozens. Uh, ok. Keep him. :dunno:

But this is the right approach to any Cozens deal. We have zero reason to be desperate here.

Not me, but I'm valuing Cozens way lower than most on the board, so there's that.

Noting that contract, I wouldn't deal any of our top-10 prospects, underperforming or otherwise.
Im just viewing those assets as not valuable to our current leadership

From my understanding Buffalo is trying to squeeze one more asset out of Nashville before the deadline.
Fine... they can have del gaizo but we get Byram

Again I haven't heard a lot since yesterday. From my understanding a deal was basically on the goal line last night.

It sounded like there were additional sweeteners Buffalo wanted but who knows. I still think this gets done.

It wouldn't surprise me if the Preds pivoted today and are trying to find a different option.

Take that for what you will.

It’s now a “reset.” Everyone got that? RESET:

“It’s not a rebuild,” Preds general manager Barry Trotz told The Athletic on Thursday. “I’m not in the business of not winning. I’m in the business of trying to win. We’re not selling off. We are resetting. We know where we are. It’s not where we thought we would be.

“But we want to move forward.”
Just putting the source here for future reference, because I nearly reposted this otherwise:

Still, a little more:
The Nashville Predators are not going into a full teardown.

Yes, they made yet another trade Wednesday night, this time sending 28-year-old defenseman Alexandre Carrier to the Montreal Canadiens in exchange for 23-year-old defenseman Justin Barron. But this is no firesale. The Preds are realistic about their dim chances this year, of course, which is why they have peeled off a few pieces so far this season. But the idea is to put themselves in a position to bounce right back next year.

Near where sand and waves meet.
Well to be fair... wedgewood and Carrier did play like buns and Annunen is a nice goalie option going forward since we traded Askarov. So those are nice resets.

Not playing Tomasino or Fabbro though was dumb.

Im hoping we continue to reset our way away from Nyquist, Lauzon, and Bruno
Both Wedgewood and Carrier were known quantities who Trotz signed to multi-year deals just to trade them away 30 games in. The words and deeds don't align now. He talks about vision ... but the players HE signed are the ones he is moving out.

Meanwhile every player he moved out is doing well ... the difference in stats for Wedgewood now that he's not playing behind Bruno's system is drastic.
