Apparently, Columbus hasn't gotten the offers they want for a one-for-one deal for Jiricek so they're now listening on packages as well.

Fortunately, we could be strong in that category. I also wonder if they'd be interested in Chrona as their goalie pipeline seems pretty bare.

Kemell/Evangelista
Better of the 1sts of VGK/TBL
Chrona

Maybe a Nyquist or Sissons as well?
Too much

I still can't believe they did an 8 yr contract on Saros. I could have lived with 6 yrs, he probably has 4 near peak years. The last 4 on that contract, ouch.
On the bright side he'll probably be a more effective 5v5 player those last 4 than Stamkos currently is.

f***, that's not bright at all. Nevermind.

I think the 8 years was inevitable. Just how it works with core players these days. That's a major reason a lot of us didn't want him re-signed at all.

How would the group feel about a change-of-scenery Frost for Novak swap? I think they're similar players and both struggling a bit this season. Frost is RFA at the end of the season, probably similar 2nd line center upside as Novak, though is a bit younger. Philly might like a little sweetener

I’d take a frost for Novak trade in a heartbeat.

Sign me up. Doubt Novak is a guy Philly would target, though, even with a sweetener.

Once again we're doing a fantastic job of tanking any value Novak might have had. Nobody wants a light offense-only forward making $3.5M who has 4 pts on the season. In his past incarnations when he was scoring above 0.5ppg with a bargain contract, folks would have been all over him. Now he has 3 years at good money and the worst team in the league can't even get points out of him. Philly isn't going to want him, nobody is going to want him. Not even for a 4th round pick in 2027. :help:

It is pretty wild that when you look at the roster this season the only people playing well are Saros and Forsberg (although even he’s having a relatively down year). I really don’t even understand who guys who succeeded in the same system last year have regressed so much.

Like I said, I'm not sold its exactly the same system. As I said before, outside of Josi, I don't recall the Dmen making a point to be this involved offensively. They would take shots, and they would pinch, but it was alot more like what you see from most teams.

My second reason for thinking that is that no one has been good running it.

I gotta wonder if that is why Highnote got the boot. Was he more or less tempering some of the silliness of it and Brunette wasn't happy about it? Dunno just pondering.

I wasn't a Dan Hinote guy mainly because he was a holdover from The Lizard Man. But alot of people did think he was a good coach and were displeased when his contract wasn't renewed. Who knows the real reason but since very little of what the organization has done the last year makes any sense maybe you are on to something.

Would anyone take Marchessault for free? Can't imagine would could move the Stamkos contract without retention, and i think I'd rather keep him in the locker room anyway. At least Stammer tries, but Marchy is just sand bagging most nights.

I'd say you do whatever you need to and get one of them off the roster at least. Having one doing nothing you can live with I think, you can at least cut the minutes down a bit, but giving both of them the kind of minutes we are is just going to keep killing us.

Frankly I'd go to both and just flat tell them, if you want to be somewhere else all you gotta do is mutually terminate those contracts and I'll let you walk out the door to anywhere you want to go. We all know they won't do that though, they won't want to give up the guaranteed money.
