It's interesting because the burn it down people are happy, not sure they'll stay happy if P&T don't make more moves, and the "competitive rebuild" people are happy that they've only cut out the dead weight or redundant players, not sure they'll stay happy if this cuts deeper.

Side note: I've used P&T for so long to mean Pete and Terry's outside the arena, now it's Poile and Trotz.
I seriously did a double-take, like, what do Pete and Terry have to do with this?!?

I'm happy with the moves made so far. I think they've made the team younger, leaner, and hungrier, while keeping a nice structure in place to build around. They should have several productive years left out of Saros, Josi, Forsberg, and Duchene (who I've actually been pretty happy with this season even though he's not reaching the lofty heights of last season). I'd be satisfied if they now focus on using the rest of the season to evaluate the young players and coaching staff and prepare for the draft. If another great offer comes along, hey, sure they should listen. Somebody wants to offer two first-rounders and two franchise-potential prospects for Saros? We can talk. I don't think I'd be actively shopping anyone else, but if an offer blows our doors off, we're open for business if the return is right. That's just my opinion, though.

I'm not much on rebuilding but where we were wasn't going to go anywhere. Could it get worse? I mean sure but you are already missing the playoffs and that's the point that matters.

As others have said other than Ekholm I don't know that anyone we traded was making enough impact to swing the team one way or the other.

For sure. I know this is just one data point and doesn't really measure how good a team is, it measures likelihood of a team making the playoffs. However, Moneypuck projections from Feb 25th vs. Mar 2nd is interesting for the Preds:

Last week:

This morning:

Vegas odds still have the Preds in the low teens from an odds perspective.

Near where sand and waves meet.
Best case scenario, the Preds sit about 4 points back from WC2 normalized at the 60 game mark of the season after the loss to the Pens. Taking 60% of possible points over the last 48 games hasn't been enough to close down the gap created in the 8 games of suckage after Prague.

The more immediate question is if Parssinen or Forsberg are ready tonight so the team has 12 forwards. The cupboard in Milwaukee is pretty bare right now.

I think with the moves we are going to Hynes for another two years at least. With all the trades and youth coming up combined with what GMBT said about Hynes player development...he's here to stay for a couple more seasons.

If he were a definitive cut, he'd be gone right now with an interim behind the bench. I'm not sold he's here beyond the end of the season either. I expect Trotz to assess how things go over these last 24 games then decide which parts of the coaching staff, if any, he keeps.

I'm at a point where PoileTrotz and co. can just wait for deals to come to them. They have poured the concrete, salvaged what they can off the old home, now they can wait for the foundation to set. They can evaluate and look for needs, set their prices but, find a beach, make some margaritas, chill.

Have to start getting creative to make a roster now. Obviously (?) some new players will be signed. But ok... :badidea:

2023-24
Forsberg ($8.5M) - Novak ($0.800M) - Duchene ($8M)
Evangelista ($0.7975) - Glass (?RFA - $1.75M?) - Tomasino ($0.863333M)
Nurmi (?RFA - $0.775M) - Parssinen ($0.850833M) - Kemell $0.950M)
Trenin ($1.7M) - Sissons ($2.857M) - Afanaseyev ($0.789167M)
Smith ($0.775M)

Josi ($9.059M) - Carrier (?RFA - $3.2M?)
McDonagh ($6.75M) - Barrie ($4.5M)
Lauzon ($2M) - Fabbro (?RFA - $2.5M?)
Foote (?RFA - $0.900M?)

Saros ($5M)
Askarov ($0.925M)

LTIR: Johansen ($8M)
Buyouts: Turris ($2M)
Retained: Ekholm ($0.250M)

Total: $74.49M

If we assume the cap is $83.5M like capfriendly does then:
Remaining Cap Space: $9.01M

Isn't evangelista a RW'er?

If Novak can be a 60 pt Center and if Glass and Parsinnen can be 45-50 pt guys, Forsberg has a rebound year, and Duchene is flat, we may be alright

Granlund was a c/rw but had been playing lw with glass and tomasino at the end. Someone will likely have to work on transitioning to lw at some point. Weve got several prospects listed as rw

That McDonagh contract is going to look ugly, if it doesn't already.

I think rebuilding the defense is going to be tricky otherwise as well. We have some quality pieces and depth at forward but not much going on the defense. Fabbro, Carrier and Lauzon are all decent pieces but I don't see them as core pieces in a Cup winner.

Fortunately, if there's something I trust this organization with it's building the defense.

Be years before they can come up with another Ekholm. Better form a committee.

The 'Week of Long Knives' is over. Bad news is if the Ads sneak into the playoffs, Hynes will keep his job. I'm going to take Saturday to clean up my Preds Spread. Workout, digest, WHAT THE FRIGGIN HELL HAS HAPPENED!!!!!!!!

One last try... maybe Asplund will show something, and we could probably use Sherwood's speed if he sticks and does ok the rest of the way this season? :dunno:

Might as well start looking for high quality RFA centers on teams that are against the cap or need a Fabbro type player and maybe willing to make a deal in the offseason.

I don't think Fabbro is going anywhere. I think he and the team did the one year thing so he could try and prove himself. If you are Fabbro you don't want to be trying to sign a long term deal coming off this season and maybe Trotz doesn't want to move him based off of a stupid coach who just throws stuff at a wall and hopes it sticks.

Are you thinking that Glass, Novak and Parsinnen are poor options for next year?
I like all three just fine but I don't really see a future 1C there. Glass with his 2 way game has a good shot at 2C I think. Let Novak play more sheltered and get PP time. Or, either Novak or Parssinen could probably move to wing. Of course there's a high chance we won't have any better options at 1C by next year.
