Arizona Coyotes Lounge XXV

I'm air show curious, never been to one but it seems like they would be really cool. That or a ton of sitting and waiting around for something to happen.

There's lots of waiting but once it starts they usually schedule each act to minimize downtime.

We lived about a mile from the end of the runway on Pensacola NAS, home of the Blue Angels. They practiced every Wednesday, which meant free air show if you wanted to watch.

The Blue Angels do a Pensacola beach show every summer for the locals. Pensacola beach is an island, and once all of the island parking is full they close the bridge to cars. To avoid that and claim a good spot on the sand, the boys and I left the house at 0200 to pitch the umbrella and claim our spot. I took a nap while the kids played. The show was awesome. By the end of the day in the hot sun we were smoked.

The beach gets a little crowded for the show.

That looks a helluva lot more comfortable then the asphalt I sat with my family on in Muskogee OK. My only advice is, don't go if you have a bad neck!

Arizona Kachinas 16U Girls team qualified for the USA Hockey Tier 1 Nationals

They’re running a gofundme to help defray the costs of going.

I saw the headline on YouTube and wondered what it takes for a 17-game suspension for slashing. Based on the broadcaster's comments, I'm guessing this guy is a repeat offender.

Well, my first experience with jury duty ended before it started. My range of juror numbers got called off, so I could have just not gone to the courthouse at all. I wonder how long it'll be until I get summoned again.
Probably varies by state…… But in AZ if you had to actually check in it’s two years before you can be selected again.

I didn't actually have to check in. The greeter took one look at my juror number and told me I had been called off. I didn't have to do anything like write my name anywhere. She simply took my card from me, said my parking would be validated, and I turned right back around.

Being Alachua County, did she call you "hon"?

By seeing the greeter you would be considered to have checked in then. Should also be eligible to be reimbursed for your mileage going to and from the courthouse.

(Based on what AZ does. FLA could be different.)

Were you given a number to call the night before for a recording that would tell you if you needed to appear?

What often happens in these instances is a defendant makes a plea the morning of the scheduled trial, or there’s a last minute change that delays it. So they end up not needing as many people as they originally thought they might need.

Which really sucks if you sit in the jury pool room the entire day and not get called up at all but the court is required to have people available at a moment’s notice.

Not sure how it works in Florida. There was a website I could have checked, but I didn't learn about that until after the fact.

I was juror number 242:

I’ve been a witness at two accidents over the years, the last one fatal. Setting time aside for court dates that get cancelled makes a person not want to get involved.
The fatal accident was something else. Guy fled the scene, I saw folks getting out of cars to render aid, so I chased his sorry ass down, on the phone w/PD all the while, wound up telling them where he could be found. Biggest mistake was going back. I gave them my info, but they said I should hang around (may want to ask me questions), stood around over four hours, asked several cops during that time, if I should keep hanging out and always told yes, only to find them packing it in (w/o telling) me.

I was once witness to a domestic violence incident and was the one who called 911 on it. The police who arrived took my brief statement pretty quickly, my name and address, but I never heard anything more. It was a bit sad to see though, because the incident was mostly my friend being assaulted by her boyfriend, but the police arrested them both. I later learned that's standard in DV incidents, but at the time I felt so bad for her because she barely did anything at all and, because she couldn't post bail, had to bide her time in jail while awaiting the trial.

Doing the right thing is a necessary task. No benefits are anticipated and there is an understanding that there might be some cost. Sometimes one gets an unexpected reward. I did the right thing for someone who I knew 30 years ago, Dropped everything and flew back east to attend her dad's funeral and lend comfort. Her dad was a dear friend of my father. Stunned to this day that I found in her the love of my life and two years later married her.

I had one of my best childhood friends die at 35 years of age (long time ago) and went 1,800 miles home to attend his funeral. Our entire families were good friends, so the comfort goes both ways, most importantly they were Irish and the after was a blast, just like he would have wanted!

What is that? Some rocket launch or something?

SpaceX Falcon 9 Starlink launch from Vandenburg AFB.

Anytime they do night launches from there, I can see it from my front yard. First time I saw it, it freaked me out. My wife called from her car saying, "Is the apocalypse scheduled for today, and why didn't you put it on our calendar?"

Used to see these all the time living in central California.

People may not know Vandenburg had an identical launch complex for the Shuttle Program at one time but never used it. But anything they want to put in a polar orbit comes out of there, and the complex was converted quite a while back for SpaceX.
