So last time we moved a big forward who "couldn't skate" it ended up being Mason Marchment.

I remember reading all the comments on here about how Marchment wasn't going to take the next step....lol and now we're trying to play Malgin in a bottom 6 role.

Douglas has struggled this season in the A. But we have no patience for these big guys who bring an element the leafs sorely need.

Dubas is a f***ing moron.
Dude. Douglas has been hot garbage in the AHL this year. Marchment was twice the player at that level. It's not even comparable.

TBH if Timmins can step in and play well, he could be a reason for Dubas to move Holl later in the season .. Brodie and Liljegren are also on the right side.

Rielly-Brodie
Gio-Liljegren
Sandin-Timmins
Benn
Mete

Agreed but for our sake, let's hope he is not another Marchment.
It would only matter if he was able to be a Marchment for us during this core's window. Even just a handful of decent games from Timmins this year is worth more than if Douglas became a 3C 4 years from now. It took Marchment 6 years from signing with the Marlies to making any sort of impact at the NHL level and he was significantly further along than Douglas.

Traded a nothing prospect for a legit NHL defenseman who can't stay healthy. Loved Timmins as a prospect, and if he could just not get injured he's still got a chance of being a top-4 guy.
It’s a meh trade but I don’t think Timmins is a legit NHL defencman yet.

Yet we moved both.

If Timmins turns out to be something more than Douglas I'll eat crow. But Dubas missed on the Marchment trade so damn badly anytime I see us move muscle i'm going to question it.

We lost our top 3 defenseman so I think it's pretty fair to pay a very low price on a formerly highly touted guy who is only 24.

A move worthy of praise I think. It would be very damning for Dubas to either do nothing, or overpay for someone who doesn't move teh needle. I don't see an issue with swapping out projects for one another given our needs

Its a move for need. Much rather do a smaller lateral move like so rather then go big game hunting when the rest of league could take you to the woodshed no ones offering a deal to a team whos blueline is ravaged by injuries just overpays

Because we just traded a depth forward who brings size and physicality and if they suck, at least they would actually bring value.

To make this trade worse, Arizona wanted to waive him but we didn't have a contract spot so had to make a trade to get him. FML
Waiving Timmins to send him to the league that Douglas plays on the 4th line

Come on, this is a lottery ticket for a free wallet type deal. Timmins is at least a 32nd overall with pedigre where Douglas was undrafted by us FA add.

Have they said when Timmins May be available to play?

Lmao this was the move that did it? Douglas has been terrible and the Leafs have huge issues with defensive depth right now

Yes this is the move that did it. Because it shows that through all of this, Dubas hasn't learned the value and rarity of these players. I gave him credit for going out and getting tougher, bigger, physical players over the last year but clearly he is still stubborn and egotistical to think he knows better.

Why are teams paying 4x4 to Chiarot and Gudbranson even though they 'suck'? The same reason that a 6 foot 8 240 pound center would be valuable for hitting and fighting and physical play over 6 feet tall plugs also doing nothing and having no impact on the games.

Tired of giving up on these players for them to go on and have success elsewhere while we bargain bin shop for 700k players who 'hit'... at least on the stat sheet because their physicality has no impact on the game.

Like Nick Ritchie?

You know this move is just to replace Mac Hollowell (5'9 170 pounds) with a 6'2 200 pound defenseman, right? If size is all you care about, you should be over the moon. Don't worry about the 22 year old who can't even look decent as a 4th liner in the AHL so much

Though there's a bit of projection here. Chariot is an NHLer, Douglas at present was a depth guy on the Marlies. Trading a prospect that you have low expectations for in terms of development the same thing as giving up an NHL caliber asset.

Just because wed like it if Douglas were to develop into that physical bottom six center for the Leafs doesn't mean he actually had a high chance to do that.

I don't know much about this kid other than he was a solid prospect but his career has been derailed by injuries. Anybody know what kind of injuries we are talking about?

Anyone who uses Douglas and physical in their angry rant clearly doesn’t watch Douglas and are making things up based on his height….

As for the “they were going to waive him but we have not contract spots thanks to Dumbass” well Douglas is literally the 2nd worst player signed to an NHL contract.

Would have preferred giving up Gogolev instead, since he is the worst contract, but Douglas was trending in that direction.

Douglas didn't really have the skating to be a super physical player. He will get into fights, and he had a nice spurt of offense last year, but his skill set left a lot to be desired even last year and it only got worse this year.

Because of the price paid.

You think Arizona wanted him because he sucks? Why didn't they ask for Joey Anderson or equivalent? You are telling me Dubas masterfully negotiated sending a 4th liner instead?

Or did Arizona want him because they know the value of these players? I am betting they know in a few years this guy is going to be a valuable piece on our 4th line. Like Trent Frederic who was useless and now a key part of the Bruins depth.

I am mad because it shows Dubas STILL doesn't get it.
