I like what ARZ is doing today. They are loaded with good young players. They get their 1LD, their starter, and their 1C today without giving up a whole lot that'll hurt them.

1c of the now, but I imagine they hope that Strome becomes a 1a center and Stepan a 1b/2a

Terrible for Arizona. They are competing and should be building,
No way, they've had a solid rebuild. Now they have to bring people into seats, and develop the solid youth they have. They unfortunately lucked their way out of McDavid/Eichel/Mathews/Laine, the trades they've made today makes their team so much better right now.....especially in the weak ass Pacific division, they can start competing very soon.

Raanta is an upgrade over Smith, no?

Its hard to say with team differences. Give Smith this new look D and Stepan on the team and he might be better than he's been.

But I get it. Start anew. Move out Doan, Smith, Tippett. New culture

Lol...don't think this means that Arizona is "going for it". Think it means they've realized they have a lot of good talent, but that talent is wasted if you don't build proper infrastructure around them and show them how to win.

IE: They don't want Strome/Domi/OEL/Etc... to become the next Hall/RNH/Eberle, and they realize the odds of drafting McDavid pt2 are bad, particular with the anti-Oiler draft rules in place.

Chyka doing Chyka things. Great trade for both sides.

I knew it would t cost what Rags fans thought it would take.

I'm a bit humbled here. No problem admitting I was wrong, but I honestly expected Stepan to return a little more.

I like it in terms of it providing the Yotes with a solid top-six centre who can shield their younger players for now like Keller.

I don't like it in terms of a 7th overall pick being more valuable in this draft than an older Derek Stepan especially in this draft where you could get a Scheifele at 7th and have him be better than guys taken much higher.

I guess it's not bad at all, depends what you value more. DeAngelo for Raanta is fine, Raanta has a bit more value if anything. Either way, makes the Yotes better for now and increases the chances of Colorado getting a lottery pick so I like it.

Rangers are going to be really weak down the middle without Stepan. Yotes have done well today...

Wow what a move by the youngest GM in the league. Brings in a top 6 center (Stepan), a top 4 dman (Hammer), a starter (Raanta) and backup (Johnson) all within a couple weeks.

This is the current state of prospects for Arizona:

Keller, #7 overall
Strome, #3 overall
Merkley, #30 overall
Fischer, #32 overall
Chychrun, #16 overall
Perlini, #12 overall
Dvorak #58 overall
Domi, #12 overall
Duclair, #80 overall
Crouse, #11 overall

And that's all under 21ish. Do you really think they care about adding a #7 in a weak draft with that as their young talent?

That's an intense amount of skill for that young.

Then the in-between 23-27:

OEL
Martinook
Reider
Burmistrov

Good move for Arizona, interesting re-tooling possibilities for NYR. Attempting to retool McDonagh would be a blockbuster, but consistent with this trade.

Aim for a down 2017-2018 re-emerge in 2018.
