Don’t get it for ARI, they definitely should have picked at #7 imo.

Stepan is fine, but I’d be pretty chapped if we traded away a pick that high for a player like that.

You do realize the Rangers are the 8th youngest team in the league now....where does this get younger BS come from ?

Yeah you have young forwards, but you have no prospects or up and coming young players. You're goalie and most important player is showing his age and your defense is getting old quick. Just stating the average age of your roster doesn't tell the story of what's really going on with the rangers.

Basically I believe 7 for Stepan is fair. I also believe that 35 for Raanta is fair. This comes down to how much more you think DeAngelo is worth than the 35 or how much more you think Stepan is worth than the 7.

I'll take my crow medium rare, Mr. rt, sir

Although you did call DeAngelo untouchable ;)

Their goalie prospects are actually quite good.

I'd hate to give up DeAngelo (if I'm Arizona) with his potential, but getting a #1 C and a legit starter for two "maybe's" in those prospects (counting whoever is picked) is huge.

Add in Hjarlmalsson... and Arizona just instantly got a lot better. I like the direction they're heading.

Remember that NYR cleared all the cap space too. That matters.

Most deals you have to take cap hit back and now the NYR can allocate that money to another guy...likely Shattinkirk.

So for them, #7, Angelo, Shatty > Stepan+ Raanta

Overpayment for stepan value wise IMO. But i love what the yotes are doing. They have so many 22 and under high end youngsters. I think having a top 6 C in his prime and a guy like hjalmarsson on the blue line to come in and kinda set the example and be the leaders for all the high end young talent coming.

Also, they needed to show their fanbase that the rebuild won't last forever and this helps speed it up even if they did give up probably more than most of us though value wise for stepan.

But looking at arizona's organizational depth, i completely understand why deangelo and the 7th could be "expendable". I like this for both teams, i think deangelo could be sneaky good on the rangers if they give him PP time and 2nd or 3rd pair 5v5

It was time for a chancge. This will forever be one of my favorite Ranger memories of my lifetime.

Thanks, Step!

Really like this move for both teams. NY might of got a bit more value wise but didn't bring any salary in which allows for them to be more aggressive in FA. Think Arizona will really like Raanta, wanted him badly on the Flames.

What is the point in adding Shattenkirk if they're gonna suck now for the next 3 years because they can't score. They've basically lost a significant portion of their offense already in the last 3 weeks and replaced it with question marks

Don't like this trade, but the cost was pretty much what I anticipated. And the Schadenfreude from the reactions of Rangers HFers insistent on a higher cost blunts the sting. :)

God. Arizona is really screwing things up today. Pressure from the top floor? They just keep sacrificing future for ready NHL player... wtf is happening in Arizona. Todays trades wont make them a playoff team.

DeAngelo might eventually take the title off Mike Sillinger in the "six degrees of separation" game, one of the most iconic threads in HF's history.

The only difference is one of them is good in the room.
