I feel bad for Sateri.

No chance he's signing in Arizona, trade deadline is over. He's a UFA next year and forced to play in Arizona. I thought Edmonton would claim him.

To be fair, Dubas should have been more creative with the contract.

"If team misses the playoffs, performance bonus of 6M", etc.

Claim he would only sign for cheap for a chance to win a cup.

I'd bet Säteri doesn't give a shit about this. He gets his money either way.
It's just really funny to me, hope Leafs have Källgren playing out of his mind and Campbell returning or it could get bad. Mrazek should never be close to NHL crease again.

You can't sign pro players in season and add them to your organization. He's not an amateur free agent. Vegas signed Pouliot and he got claimed too.

The European season is much shorter. The rule is there to prevent teams heading into the post-season from signing Euros to bolster their roster for Stanley Cup playoffs.

You can thank Edmonton Oilers for this rule. They did this frequently in the 80s, which is when they enacted this rule.

If you had waited til Off-season then waivers wouldn't have been necessary.
Funnily enough it was because of a Finnish player that rule was made. Reijo Ruotsalainen.

Then why would be sign in Toronto??

They're a playoff team

Not like TB, Florida or Colorado was lining up for him. Toronto was probably the closest cup-contending team wanting to sign him, that's why.

Exactly what I was going to say. Sateri and his camp probably knew full well this was a possibility and weren't bothered. Maybe Toronto was his most preferred destination, or maybe Toronto was one or one of few to offer one way for the rest of the year. Now he gets to collect whatever he potentially left on the table in the KHL for a couple months or so of traveling around in NA.

Can't do bonus shenanigans like that anymore, would be pretty funny though.

I bet even Säteri is laughing for Toronto at this point

Honestly most could figure this one out, Dubas most known he would be claimed or is he that naive?
