Players coming from Europe mid-season have to go through waivers. It's to stop cap circumvention or give already good teams an advantage on KHL free agents as their seasons end.
So that's a problem but playoffs cap circumvention with LTIR is alright? Hm.

yes unless the team already owns said players rights if I recall.

Does shrewd translate to “unable to sign your own free agents so you need to take someone else’s”

Waiver system for signings like this makes no sense. Who exactly does this help. Surely not either party that originally wanted this transaction to take place.
You can't sign pro players in season and add them to your organization. He's not an amateur free agent. Vegas signed Pouliot and he got claimed too.

The European season is much shorter. The rule is there to prevent teams heading into the post-season from signing Euros to bolster their roster for Stanley Cup playoffs.

You can thank Edmonton Oilers for this rule. They did this frequently in the 80s, which is when they enacted this rule.

If you had waited til Off-season then waivers wouldn't have been necessary.

I'd refuse to report to Arizona if I were Sateri since he signed from Europe to play in Toronto and then just wait for the off-season.
He would still be Arizona's property if he refused to report.

HAAAAAAAAA HAHA HAHA

ARI are my 2nd fav team now

Trade him back to the Leafs for a 1st and they'll become my fav team

Hopefully BA has a plan to flip him back to Toronto with a pick for Mrazek and Knies

Now they trade Mrazek for him?
He could be traded only if no other team claimed him, or if any such team refused to pick him up.

I bet 32 year old Säteri wasn't expecting to play in Arizona when signing this deal.. :snide:

I don't think he minds. He's free to play at Finland's home WHC (World Hockey Championships) after the NHL regular season ends. It doesn't give him salary to play for the national team but most Finnish players want to play there. Those home tournaments don't come very often.

It was a win win situation for Säteri to get a 1-way contract for the end of the NHL season. The destination didn't really matter.

Coyotes management dont have to pay for scout.... GMs of others teams do it for free for him....

Toronto need to find a goalie... but where and how...
I wonder how many GMs claimed Sateri too...
