I cancelled my cable at the end of the playoffs - does anyone know of a legit way to watch the draft without cable? Feel free to PM me! Thanks in advance.
Should be a ton of Youtube Live draft videos out there. Check out "the hockey guy" or Scouching.

Suppose there's some truth to Yzerman moving back, I would assume that we can trade into the mid to late 1st round if we get another high second rounder. Would you guys rather have one of Zegras/Dach/Cozens and just keep our 35th and hope for a decent player there, or a combination of Podkolzin/Boldy/Krebs and Seider/Harley/Robertson?
with the cap not going as high as some analysts projected it appears rebuilding teams with ample cap space have a great advantage for those cap-strapped teams. i really hope there's a move we can use to get another late 1st. cap dump+late 1st for one of our later 2nds

No further questions your honor.
I wasn't trying to make a case for or against him, just offering up my opinion and showing what that, admittedly, ill-informed opinion was based upon.
I suppose these discussions are more exciting when everyone boldly claims that their opinions are infallible and unquestionable.

Sounds like Tampa may be a decent dance partner for that, though 27th overall seems kind of low. I'm hoping somewhere in the 15-25 range, any teams looking to dump salary in those ranges?

"Really" as in the fact that I do believe it. "Not really" as in I am virtually the only one. Every one in every fan base would be thrilled with him. I just wanted to trick someone into siding with me.

I think he is bad defensively and lacks effort while only looking to jump up on the rush to be a 4th forward. He doesn't possess any elite level offensive skills (skating, shot, passing, stickhandling), he just takes advantage of being that 4th forward in the WHL but will be a big defensive liability.

This is literally the only place I've ever read this statement. By all accounts, he is an exceptional (to elite) skater with a high end shot.

Once you get past 3 or 4, there isn't much separating the next 9 or 10 guys.

Trade the pick. Move down and get additional assets. You'll still get a player of equal value in all likelihood. Don't get tunnel vision. Take advantage of someone else that does.

Alright I've done my contemplating, out of the players likely available;

Thumbs up: Boldy, Dach and Zegras

Thumbs down: Podkolzin, Cozens and Broberg

Meh...... Fine: Krebs, Söderström, Caufield and Seider.

cap dump won't get you that high probably. My target was Callahan+27th for a 2nd (one of the later ones). but it appears that is moot now

Don't really have a strong opinion on Sandin. I'd gladly jump on that bandwagon if you jump on the anti-Byram bandwagon.

Plus, it lets me hate on a leafs prospect. I'm in!
sorry man, no deal I'm going to call him Lord Byram.

Assuming Byram and Turcotte are off the table (That's even assuming that the organization view them as we do too). This is gonna come down to accepting the potential of getting the likes of Podkolzin/Boldy/Krebs over Zegras/Dach/Cozens. If this means we also get someone like Seider, Sorderstom, or Harley, I think it's worth it to trade down.

Moving down from 6 to 11 jets say just to add a mid 2nd rd pick seems dumb.

I am all in favour of adding picks but not by dropping down talent levels and yes from 6-11 their is a significant talent drop off(or relative expected ceiling)

Let's use our calp space to add another pick?

Lets pckg some of our picks to move UP?

Moving down at this point in our rebuild is flawed

Would anyone be willing to trade 6OA for Tyson Barrie? 27 year old 50 point defenseman? Does that seem like an over- or underpayment?

It's a total crapshoot. You get less of a guarantee plus a total chance with the hope that somebody like Chabot or Barzal, or you keep the high pick and have a greater chance of a hit.

Personally, I say stick with the high pick. I'd rather see Detroit move up from 35 and try to hit than move down from 6.

To me there isn't a separation between those two groups. History says that 3 or 4 of those guys will all turn out about the same.

Forget worrying about over or underpayment.

The question you really need to ask yourself is why a rebuilding team would trade a top 10 pick for a 28 year old that has a year left before going UFA.

Trading down and picking up additional assets is great... if you have someone ranked very highly that no one else does.

The idea of "well, these 7 guys are all the same, so we'll take whoever is left over" is not great. They will not all be equal at the end of their careers. The scouts need to do their job and have an opinion.

Like I said before, I'm totally expecting the scouts go for Boldy if Turcotte or Byram doesn't fall. Boldy will be tried at center eventually too.
I like Boldy a lot ,but he shouldn't go before Zegras or Dach. Detroit is not Arizona

Trading down works when it's later picks. There's a more varied opinion on who BPA is, and teams are more willing to pick by need than BPA. That's why Mantha/Bertuzzi for Mirco Mueller and Cholowski/Hronek for Chychrun worked.

Dropping 4-5 spots from #6 is a whole different ball game. Hughes and Kakko are gone. If I had to guess, Turcotte, Byram, and Dach will be gone. That leaves us Zegras or Cozens to pick at 6. Guarantee both will be gone by #10, and I'd bet Boldy is gone too. So that pretty much leaves you Podkolzin, Caufield, Broberg, and Krebs, all of whom have question marks hanging over them.

Not worth it. We already have three 2nd round picks.
