What's worse is he dumped the 2 time GMOTY for an unproven rookie. Pure Genius.

Who then dumped an experienced coach for another unproven rookie.

Does anyone remember Burke? JFJ? Cliff Fletch? Even Lou! This is the best team we have had in years. Guy gets a lot of flack but at least we arent bottom dwellers.

No, he inherited the best team we've had in years and has taken it in the wrong direction.

Dubas bet his job on this core but what have they done in crunch time to foster that belief?

Tavares 1st return to NY?
Rookie Kaskisuo 1st game?
Zamboni driver?
Our record the last time we were in the Atlantic?
Last 5 playoff appearances?

Just what is it exactly that this core has done beyond individual regular season points that leads to the belief of the core as a “team”?
Yeah I would totally be on board if they were solid, stuck up for each other, and played with some kind of intensity in the biggest games.
When Dubas and Shanny are hanging their hats on this core all of a sudden flicking a switch - to me they're done. A waste.

Significantly less, but not due to Dubas. Tavares, Matthews and Marner have all been a flop postseason. I’ve lost all faith in those three.

edit: I was obviously feeling this way about Tavares before these playoffs.

Status quo, same top 4 forwards, same top four D, virtually same bottom six.

Another meh season to look forward to. I feel they will struggle to even make the playoffs.

Matthews and Marner will have another big point production regular season, Nylander will be okay and Tavares will continue to regress in offensive production.

Beyond that, meh.

Yeah I’m less because i was SERIOUSLY optimistic in 2018.

Still quite optimistic. I’m in the minority who think this team still has quite a bit of room to grow.

Shocked Dubas didn't give away any draft picks during the expansion draft.Maybe Francis deserves a pat on the back instead.

I'm not a big fan of Dubas pressers.... he talks too much imo. Tries to be the nice guy too much. Saying Hyman has earned every dime he's going to get as a ufa? ....... seems really counter intuitive to do this and then negotiate contracts with your players. Your basically telling your roster that they should go for big paydays and not be loyal. Also he sure doesn't come off very confident... seems depressed, defeated and intimidated. Talks about believing in their grouo..but his body language clearly says otherwise.

How can anyone be more optimistic.

We went from an up and coming team that pushed the bruins to the limit to a pretender that chokes so hard when the games mean something

we had our stars on elcs
Now we have overpaid overrated stars

we had a vezina level goalie who made up for most our mistakes, in net
Now we have to restart the process and believe in Campbell to manage 45-55 games, I hope he can do it

We had insane depth, Matthews, Kadri, Bozak was pretty sick for centre’s. Nylander kapanen brown Marner JVR among others were real solid options
Now we have old man Spezza carrying our sorry excuse for a bottom six. I’d rather strap skates on 6 figure skaters, cuz I’d have more faith in them producing compared to mikheyev engvall Simmonds Thornton

D was an issue and dubas did address it with muzzin, Brodie, barrie(was an attempt), bogo and others. Will see how it holds up next year, I’m expecting from 8-15 range

backup we will see next year, but Campbell is a good pickup, we just need to sign him to a reasonable deal. We were pretty bad in this department before

However The results have been piss poor and have gotten worse since than

2018: lost to the 4th place team
2019: lost to the 3rd place team
2020: lost to the 14th place team
2021: lost to the 18th place team

what next year we find a way to play the 32nd place Buffalo sabres and still lose in 7? Oh but guys it’s ok, Buffalo made it to the finals. Because every underdog should have its glory….. apart from us.

There’s nothing optimistic right now about this group of players, coaches, management, organization

It’s becoming abundantly clear that whatever process Dubas preached when he became GM has blown up in his face and has been thrown to the wind. At this point, he’s just throwing shit at the wall and hoping something sticks. His initial vision was completely flawed and now he’s trying to adjust by trying to bring in elements we need but through the absolute bottom of the barrel personnel like washed up Thornton and Simmonds and a crippled Foligno.

Basically, he’s f***ed and by extension we’re f***ed.

May 11, 2018 I would've thought we were 100% on the way to being cup contenders. Multiple deep runs in the near future, everything looked amazing. We were in a top 3 position league wide honestly

2021 and I'm dead inside

This last series loss; maybe it was the fact that we led 3-1, maybe it was that we choked to Montreal or that our big money players played the most disgraceful hockey of their careers, I don’t know. All I know is that for the first time the anger isn’t going away and like you, I’m dead inside lol. I just don’t care anymore and I won’t until we win a round or this core is blown up.

This post needs to be automatically sent to the Dubas fanboys.

Very well said.

We lost to a zamboni driving goalie .......

anything can happen in this world.....

The leafs will win a cup in the not to distant future.

if not, water under the bridge and the sun will rise tomorrow.

Still optimistic and I like his drafting better than when it was Lam/Hunter in the lead. Those 2nd round misses on korshkov and rasanen really hurt us today in this flat cap.

Our team this season was better than any team Lou dressed minus the presence of prime Fred who Campbell is no where close to. So I guess by default it's still a positive slope.

I don't hate Dubas and I like some of what he has done, but what you just mentioned is a big issue for him. He says waaaaaaaay too much. Just shut up already! He needs to be coached on how to be a leader. Like you said, he puts up so many subtle, subliminal, messages that makes agents and players salivate. His weird obsession with proverbs doesn't help (we can and we will). In my ideal world, he'd have a high position in the organization (e.g., assistant GM, head of scouting), but not the actual GM. You need a quiet, calculated, intimidating presence there. The exact opposite of a gregarious "nice guy".

What's clear to me is that the 50% that are unhappy like to reply here much more then the happy fans.

Makes total sense, but this has cleared it up

I imagine most voted for both options. Isn't that why two options are available?
