What if:

Murray plays 40 games and fairly healthy throughout the season, Samsonov plays 30 games but in and out due to his shootout pretzel injury, and Kallgren stays healthy thoughout the season.

Suddenly:

Murray gets injured , Samsonov can't get out of the pretzel position.

What do we do?

Roll with Kallgren through the playoffs??!?!

u can literally say that about every team in the league. what is the point ?

Murray and Samsonov have so far proven to be a massive upgrade over Mrazek and Campbell. So far our goaltending has been a delightful surprise.

Anybody catch Murray chirping after he was dumped circling the net against Jersey? I f***ing love that.

My expectation was sub .900-.910 goaltending so yes I am pleased. I wanted 2 of Husso, Ullmark and Lindgren though who all seem like good options at the time. But Murray and Samsonov have been better then I expected and 6 million for the 2 of them is good value.

still too early to tell. of course it has gone better than how it could have to start. samsonov was really solid. got hurt, but by then murray got healthy and he's been solid.

I think everyone knew the capability of the tenders. It's their ability to remain healthy that makes or breaks everything.
There was a lot of talk about Murray's stats behind Ottawa's D beyond just his injury concerns. The lateral tracking and glove hand haven't been an issue outside of the 1st game but our D have been a factor in helping control that.

I mean 1/4 of the way through the season and the reformed goaltending has been a bright spot (asides from Kallgren). Health is the big concern but it's nice to see Samsonov and Murray playing well early on. Confidence like that is key, and the Leafs just need a hot hand to lean on when it matters.

I will say that both goalies look big in net .. a nice change from Campbell.

True. I think the talent is there but he probably needs a stretch of good health and to find a rhythm. I will take any positive signs at this point with our tenders. Hope he stays in form and healthy (knock on wood)

The point is no matter what recent success Toronto has achieved with goaltending, this scenario could likely happen.

...annnnnddd Kallgren sucks.
Name a team with a superstar 4th string goalie?
For the record I believe Woll to be out 3rd string, but even then name a team with a star 3rd string goalie that's played as many games as kallgren

It was a gamble and they’ve had the tandem for just one game.

Murray has been really good but he’s had spurts before.

The team defense has been a more pleasant surprise.

Two early to claim a win- having goaltending that can win in the playoffs will decide that.

But those of us that pushed back against the derision and pointed out that given the market for goalies it was actually a savvy low cost high reward gamble are getting some premature vindication.

I can't, but my point is not such a wild take. We are not out of the woods yet. I hope nothing happens to Murray, but would you be surprised if he missed a lot of games this season?

Toronto is 9-3-1 with Murray and Samsonov. And both guys are above .920 sv%. That's not just good, it's great. So anyone should be reasonably happy with the goaltending, so far.

I still have 2 concerns still. One is consistency. ie. Can they perform like that into the playoffs? Two is health, which we've already seen is a very serious concern. Because Kallgren is a borderline automatic loss.

We should have always been happy with it.

Samsonov is the starter and Murray is the hired gun for streaming games and playoffs.

Complaining that Kallgren sucks seems pretty wild to me.

Well the way the injury bug has decimated out D the entire Marlies might be playing in the NHL by Christmas

I don't know you much, but you're on the "stop complaining" committee.

Don't you get tired of complaining about people complaining?

If you complain when there's no reason to complain, don't be shocked if you get called out on it.

Kallgren is our #3 or #4 goalie depending on who you ask. Others have told you to take a look at #3/#4 goalies on other teams before continuing to make yourself look silly, I suggest you take their advice.
