Are the NJ Devils already collapsing?

Young team just learning their stuff. Some of these teams making pushes early on I think are signs of what's to come. Columbus and NJ are the future east metro and Detroit Buffalo Ottawa are future Atlantic division.

I don't think many people expected the Devils to play at a 110-120 point pace for the whole season. As good as they have looked, I think most expected them to cool off at some point. I think they are certainly a playoff team, and likely a top 3 seed in the Metro, either of which are huge wins for a team that still will layer in significant young talent. Scary to think they are sitting with 2 top 4OA picks that aren't even on their roster yet.

1995 Cup winner: Longest winless streak was 4 (twice)
2000 Cup winner: Longest winless streak was 5
2001 Finalist (best Devils team ever): Longest winless streak was 7
2003 Cup winner: Longest winless streak was 3 (three times, including a 2-4-1 stretch)
2012 Finalist: Longest winless streak was 4

Yeah, I'd say the Devils are absolutely doomed this season. I mean, historically, teams that have had winless/losing streaks are never successful, right? Right?

I think I said this earlier but the Devils outplayed the Stars and Flyers big time in the last two games. They completely shut down Benn/Seguin/Robertson then dominated last night... Lost both games in regulation. Mistakes that were poorly timed and opposing goalies playing really well did them in. They are fine.

This cannot be understated.

I've not shut off a single one of these losses before the final buzzer. Certainly can't say that about most of the last decade.

It's the only rational conclusion.

Devils are a good team, but anyone who thought the start of the year Devils is who they really are was simply wishful thinking

Rangers were outplaying teams earlier in the season and losing. Now they’re getting outplayed and winning. Hockey cycles, y’know? Everyone gets em

Even the Islander game when they were down 6-2 they took the game over and almost came back. Recent years I would have run out of the building to beat traffic but I even stayed til the final buzzer for that one.

Name the last time you actually remember watching the Devils (in person or on TV) give up six goals and still actually *TRY* until the end of the game.

I got time.

Remember when it seemed the entire Devisl fan base was tagging me because I said as soon as things go wrong I don't think they pull out of it?

I guess we're about to see..

Buddy this is what we have been dealing with all season... fans of other teams that as soon as they lose a few games are going to try to say they were right all along and the Devils are bad and are collapsing. Again, they actually played two of their better games of the season against Dallas and Philly. They will be fine.

No, because I'm not you and thus don't get notified about folks tagging you?

I'll have my people look into that

Well that is because the Devils haven't proven anything yet. Lots of teams have strong month or two of hockey and then go back to what they are. Mainly the Devils were winning because they were getting Vezina level goaltending. That might be coming back down to earth. Guys are cooling down.

Not one team in the entire league has proved anything yet.
So again, we sit here and deal with fans of other teams every day trying to tell us our first place team is bad LOL
Especially when most of these people probably haven't even bothered to watch the Devils play.

Well that's not true. There are a handful of teams you know Sept 1st are going to be in the playoffs. So they deserve some benefit of the doubt. Teams who are in their primes and have made the playoffs as a top roster for multiple seasons are different than a bottom feeder getting hot.

What is different between the Devils and the Sabres at this point besides a hot streak?

What's the difference between the Bruins and the Sabres? What's the difference between the Leafs and the Sabres? What's the difference between Vegas, Carolina, Dallas and the Sabres?

Also after that 13 game win streak ended against Toronto, the Devils went 5-0-1 in the next 7 games.

So that's 18-1-1 in 20 games. That's about 67-70% of the season. That's not a hot streak. That's a good season so far.
