Are the NJ Devils already collapsing?

What's the difference between the Bruins and the Sabres? What's the difference between the Leafs and the Sabres? What's the difference between Vegas, Carolina, Dallas and the Sabres?

Also after that 13 game win streak ended against Toronto, the Devils went 5-0-1 in the next 7 games.

So that's 18-1-1 in 20 games. That's about 67-70% of the season. That's not a hot streak. That's a good season so far.

It seems you missed my point.

Leafs, Bruins, Canes, have been at the top end of the standings for multiple years and are in their primes. So they deserve more benefit of the doubt they will finish near the top of the standings than teams who have been bad 15 games into a season.

I can pretty much go into any NJD thread and know which of our fanbase will be trolling them, and then I can go into any NYR thread and know which members of their fanbase will be trolling us. The rest of us on each side are made to look pretty dumb when it backfires.

Yeah, I told myself the same thing during the John MacLean fiasco of 2011, when the Devils were coming off of 19 playoff appearances in 20 seasons.

Well you are putting words into my mouth. I never said the results are guaranteed. I am saying that they have different levels of built up reputation and thus deserve different takes.

Of course a better team can lose a game or a series, or a vet team miss the playoffs. A young team can make the playoffs. But when there is a pattern, I am not losing my mind because a small sample size is different. I knew after 20 games that the Bruins were more likely to keep up their play than the Devils for example.

Hey Vegas didn't make the playoffs last season. So obviously any success they have right now is a fluke and they will come back down to earth I'm sure.

We weren't arrogant. This board is a cesspool and Devils fans had to come here to see countless threads made by fans of other teams saying the Devils stink and they aren't as good as their record blah blah blah. So then we end up coming off as arrogant trying to say our first place team in the midst of a 13 game winning streak isn't so bad.

It should’ve been extremely clear that they weren’t as good as their record.

Some of those Trolling's are pretty entertaining with their wit and cleverness. This thread Devils/Ranger fight was pretty sad overall.

I hope both sides step up their "troll" game after Christmas.:brrr::cold::scool::sgrin::slaugh::snow::xsign::xtree:

Buddy this is what we have been dealing with all season... fans of other teams that as soon as they lose a few games are going to try to say they were right all along and the Devils are bad and are collapsing. Again, they actually played two of their better games of the season against Dallas and Philly. They will be fine.
Buddy this is what Devils fans have been doing in the Rangers postseason threads for a decade.

When we were down 3-1 against Pittsburgh, when we were down 3-1 against Washington, when we were down 3-1 against Pittsburgh, when we were down 3-2 against Carolina.

It's true what they say that the retaliation is often what draws the penalty.

In actuality, this is what happens to good teams. There will be extra scrutiny on their losses.

Thanks for confirming my OP was spot on.

Can't act like you've been there, when you havent.

Yeah because the 3 cups, 5 conference championships, 9 division championships since the last time the Rangers won a cup means we haven't been there.

Well that is because the Devils haven't proven anything yet. Lots of teams have strong month or two of hockey and then go back to what they are. Mainly the Devils were winning because they were getting Vezina level goaltending. That might be coming back down to earth. Guys are cooling down.

So, what are the Devils then exactly, since you're the expert?

Also, boiling down their winning to "Vezina level goaltending" is extremely lazy. There was a lot more that went into it.

I think this team needs a legit sniper who is a legit scoring threat from the circles. Holtz and Zetterlund have the shot to be that guy, but they're just not there yet development wise. Sharangovich has that potential, but he's used more as a versatile middle 6 guy.

Hughes and Bratt are great all around offensive players while Hischier is just a very good 2 way guy.

A sniper like a Tarasenko, Tage Thompson, Paccioretty would make a difference for this team.

I've witnessed 3 Cups and 5 trips to the SCF from the Devils. Don't say we've never been there.

Act like we've been there before? I would think most of the Devils fans on this board were alive in the late 90's and 2000's when they were winning Cups. Hell, they were in the Cup Final a decade ago just two years before the Rangers also lost to the Kings in the Final.

I also always love the "I could care less about your team" argument...immediately followed by multiple post about said team.

I still chuckle that this dude is puffing his chest bragging about playoff wins with absolutely nothing to show for it like anyone gives a shit. The Devils have more SCF game wins (and were thus closer to winning another Cup) over the past 10 years and they only made the playoffs twice in that span..

so proud about relatively so little

unless you define "there" as the ECF. The Rangers have certainly been there alot recently, to their credit.

unfortunately there is another round of play afterwards

Not one team in the entire league has proved anything yet.
So again, we sit here and deal with fans of other teams every day trying to tell us our first place team is bad LOL
Especially when most of these people probably haven't even bothered to watch the Devils play.
he has. he follows his team and saw the devils beating the leafs in toronto in ot and than toronto (not the leafs) striking back six days later.

as history repeats itself endlessly like ground hog day, we can count on another first round out of the toronto maple leafs. sience.

This is a great way to tell everyone your age without actually revealing your age. Anyone older than ~30 would have a pretty different timeline of Devils vs Rangers...

It's okay to be obsessed with the Devils. It doesn't make you a lesser person or a lesser Rangers fan, just an unhappy one if the Devils are good. Same applies vice versa. Why bother making choices that make you unhappy?

(Meanwhile despite all of those playoff wins, which team between the two has the most SCF wins over that timespan? The Devils...)

While admittedly you can argue that bragging about playoff wins without cups is lame it's more lame bragging that your team lost in 6 in the SCF vs. 5.

I witnessed the Rangers winning 1 cup as well as getting to the SCF one other time.
