Are the Leafs gonna be tougher to play against?

  • Xenforo Cloud will be upgrading us to version 2.3.5 on March 3rd at 12 AM GMT. This version has increased stability and fixes several bugs. We expect downtime for the duration of the update. The admin team will continue to work on existing issues, templates and upgrade all necessary available addons to minimize impact of this new version. Click Here for Updates
The Leafs could be down 6-1 at home on a 5 game losing streak and no one will say “man I wish Holl and Kerfoot were playing tonight.”
Pretty well.
There are anecdotal reasons why the team would want higher testosterone levels in this group.
Those reasons are also supported by medical science.

All those cruddy "tough guys" Treliving brought in aren't gonna change the culture.

They're all fart, no shit.

It's a joke Reaves, Bertuzzi, and Domi are expected to set the tone in the dressing room anyway. I thought that was the so-called leadership's responsibility. Isn't that why they get paid the big bucks?

So long as those guys don't man up, this team will still be lacking a set of stones.

When the going gets tough, the tough get going. These softies just quit whenever the going gets tough. It makes it hard to cheer for this team at times.

They don't like adversity.

They don't stand up for themselves or each other. They think because they're sooooo much better at hockey than everyone else they don't have to do the dirty work. That it's beneath their pay grade.

It's called silver-spoonism.

They've always gotten everything they ever wanted. And expect to continue to do so. They don't care about anyone else but themselves as a result.

They all think their shit don't stink.

Reaves, Bertuzzi, and Domi aren't gonna change that.

I'm not posting this because I agree with their opinion.

I'm posting it because real life is stranger than fiction.

It's not 100% wrong imo. Domi is different than Kerfoot. Domi is the superior offensive player. He's not going to be killing penalties or taking on defensive assignments based on his NHL career to date although there's no physical reason he couldn't have developed in that way. He's not really more physical than Kerfoot either. He just has a temper. Klingberg is mistake prone probably more so than Holl but he's a far better offensive player and puck mover.

The truth is that BT talked about making the team harder to play against but he has probably enhanced the team's scoring and not really gone tougher at all (excepting Reaves). I believe the team will probably score more next season and allow more goals against as well. I also believe the team has a real chance of gaining some more passion and focus in the playoffs than previous incarnations.

some more passion and focus in the playoffs than“

That passion has to come from the team leaders.

Schenn's earnings have been
2016-$1.25
2017-$1.25
2018-$800K
2019-$750K-Won Cup
2020-$800K-Won Cup
2021-$850K
2022-$850K

Now as a 33 year old
2023-$2.75 million
2024-$2.75 million
2025 $2.75 million

He wins 2 Cups with TB and off a 12 game playoff run with TML over triples his annual salary with 3 years tagged to it as a 33 year old.

YES, Toronto is the centre of the hockey universe.
Wow, relatively speaking he's been a low earner throughout his career despite his longevity. Can't blame him one bit for taking the well earned pay raise.

Fortunately he seems like a guy tailor made to be a coach once he hangs them up so hopefully he can have a long and fruitful career in the game after his playing days are over

Who died?

TOR is bad now because Holl is gone?

Schenn was great, but such a short time with the club. We'll see how good he is playing 82 games with NSH.
They were bad with him and haven’t replaced him, yet.
The PK is going to be interesting. Maybe the feel they won’t need a second unit.

Domi and Bertuzzi barely score too...

Remove PP and the goals are Domi 31, Bertuzzi 30, and Kerfoot 27 for the last 3 years.

Bertuzzi has played a lot less, but still not a big goal scorer.

I will keep saying, good job on the signings, they are good players, I am excited, but people have no clue who we are getting judging by this thread.
I think both of them will score more.

Yes, we should absolutely be tougher to play against from the start of the season. We still need to add a rugged defenseman to the starting lineup though.

Exactly.

Letting Holl walk was addition by subtraction, plain and simple.

Schenn was very good for us in a limited sample size, but at his age, it's very doubtful he would be able to maintain that level of play as Rielly's partner logging those minutes over the course of the next 3 seasons. There's a reason he was never more than a 3rd pairing sheltered defenceman for several years prior to joining the Leafs at the trade deadline.

Damn right Brad Treliving order a Code Red when he signed Reaves, Bertuzzi and Domi this summer.

Crimson colour will flow as will the elbows and fists.

Leafs will be doing the pushing around more then ever before in the past, and teams will not arrive in Toronto thinking its an easy night ahead.

PS.. I wished we could have kept Schenn instread of Klingberg because then we would really be a force to recon with.

people are dismissing the reaves signing and impact he may have, but there was a reason the rangers traded for reaves. they Paid a third rounder after the whole wilson fiasco.

much like our own florida fiasco

There's also a reason they traded him away a year later for less than they paid.

Will they be harder to watch? Then again as long as the Dubas family is okay, does anything else really matter?
