Easily tougher.
Bunting wasn't tough at all, never understood why people think yapping = tough.
I’d argue he was annoying to play, but not tough

He was never a guy who would nudge, bump or hit the opposition. Just use his words to annoy them into taking penalties early on

Kilingberg has fought as much as Domi and Bertuzzi over the last few years. Avg 1.5 fights a year. So not much tougher that way. Domi was 24th on the Chicago roster in hits. They will annoy people, so if that’s tougher then yes. Reaves is a heavy weight, but he will need to be in the lineup more than Simmonds was to make a difference game to game.

I think the Leafs are less tough than before.

Schenn and Acciari are physical beasts. They hurt you. Bertuzzi and Domi are physical but more pest-like after the whistle. They bother you in different ways and do a much better job of it compared to someone like Bunting.

Reaves doesn't matter because I don't see him playing in the playoffs barring a game or two.

I wish they had kept Schenn and Acciari around but unfortunately Schenn got priced out.

Yes they will be tougher to play with. Why? Not because Reaves will be on the 4th line, but because of our core guys knowing they actually have a guy who can protect them so they will feel safe. It's all mentally.

I want be surprised if the Leafs are nip and tuck to make the playoffs.

Buffalo, Ottawa and Detroit are eventually going to rise while Boston, Toronto and Tampa fall a bit. It will be a different mix.

Speed is a wash.....

Kerfoot lost, but he could hardly score goals. Domi and Bertuzzi are both fairly fast and can score more (althoguh recently looking at Domi's stats he's a worse goal scorer lately than I realized), who else did we lose with speed? Klingberg should help with transition which plays a part in it too.

You won't see Bertuzzi, Reaves, McCabe or Domi skate away from a scrum, so that's huge progress from 80% of last season opening lineup. At least we should've have players crashing our goalies or standing over them after whistles. Last seasons opening roster entirely would skate away from a scrum, except Bunting, but Bunting physically is even smaller than Marner.

Bunting-Matthews-Marner
Nylander-Tavares-Malgin
Engvall-Kerfoot-Jarnkrok
AstonReese-Kampf-AubeKubel
Extra:Robertson, Holmberg

Rielly-Brodie
Muzzin-Holl
Giordano-Sandin
Kral-Villeneuve

Domi, Reaves and McCabe are guys that wont watch their stars take punishment and not do anything about it. This was Domi's last fight. Kane takes a hit and Domi doesn't hesitate or give Joshua a choice.

Domi + Bertuzzi = 130 GP 76 HTS 46 BKS

Kerfoot =. 82 GP 54 HTS 46 BKS

On pace Kerfoot outhits and outblocks both combined. Kerfoot.

I think people may be mistaking them for their fathers.
Domi and BERT are both full of snot.
By comparison Kerfoot uses a Navage Nasal Care machine and is snot free.

Anything worth having is worth fighting for.

Jesus tells us to turn the other cheek. But Jesus never played hockey. I'm not a fan of this turn the other cheek crap myself.

It's an insult to fans intelligence to try have us believe the team is tougher now than it was last year.

Other than Reaves, who probably won't even dress for the playoffs, the guys coming in are no tougher than those they replaced. Anyone who thinks Bertuzzi and Domi are "tough guys" is going to be sorely disappointed. At the end of the day, the reality of the situation is that the Leafs still have too many soft players unwilling to sacrifice their bodies.

If these guys want to succeed they need to take the halo off, forget about trying to win the Lady Byng, and start fighting to win the damn Cup.

That wasn't much of a fight lol

I get the point though.. at least there was push back. Someone needs to remind Bennett of that next season.

They are annoying. Tough to play against? Entirely depends on your definition of tough. Kerfoot isn’t in my definition of tough yet he outpaces those two combined for hitting and BKS. As it stands today, we are definitely not tougher. More annoying? OK. Better offensively? Probably. Not tougher and definitely worse defensively.

FYI my use of Kerfoot wasn’t an endorsement of Kerfoot rather an illustration that I don’t think people understand what they are getting.

Reaves won't be on the ice against guys who matter though, unfortunately.
Well do you think TOR will have to face Tampa again? TBL paid a small fortune for Tanner Jeanot. He won't be healthy scratched in the post-season. What about Lucic in Boston? He can still play hockey, but he's going to be around. What about FLA? What about...

Shouldn't this be a poll? Be interesting to see if it were a lopsided result.
I can see some not liking the additions but I can't see how anyone would think the team isn't tougher now.

Pretty much all complete non factors.

Don’t assume that because people don’t see the team as tougher that they don’t like the additions. You are creating your own narrative .

I wasn't doing that. Really not sure how you would get that from my post.

I can't tell if this is sarcasm, it is, right?

Lucic? Is anyone actually worried about Lucic in 2023? The answer is no. Also, how did Jeannot work out for them? (It's laughable you think he's a comparable to Reaves though, it must be sarcasm). And what about Florida? You think Ryan Reaves would've had us beating Florida? We were Ryan Reaves away from winning that series? That's the play?

Like I said, it must be sarcasm.

I expect Reaves will make some big hits and beat some guys up in the regular season. Big whoop, we don't have issues with the regular season. In the playoffs, he's not gonna stop Bennett from being dirty, much like he didn't stop Tom Wilson, and he's hardly going to be on the ice (maybe even in the press box if we look at history). So meh. Bert and Domi are going to see the ice lots and be general douche canoes (the good kind now that they are with us), that will help. Maybe Reaves moves the needle, though unlikely as we've tried this before. But if we get over it's more likely that we're a great hockey team who will eventually get over.

I am not being sarcastic and I'm also not minimising like you are.

In no way am I saying that Reaves is the answer for every problem there is, but there's no way you can post all this certainty (unless you own a crystal ball).

For example so many people on HF dug a hole for FLA and planned their funeral last season.

We just can't predict anything can we?

I don't want to write off all the new leafs either. It's reasonable that Reaves won't be on the top line with Matthews, but we can't just say that his contributions will be zero if TOR plays anyone in the playoffs.

Also never take Lucic for granted. If you don't believe me then ask Mark Fraser what I mean.

I don't think Kerfoot is:

Tough
Skilled
A big hitter
A very good hockey player
A very good fighter
A first rate defensive forward

_______

Don't come down on Domi/Bertuzzi for the "sins of their fathers".
