Are the Jets for real or are they going to crash and burn?

In vegas' first year in the leauge screwed a great jets team out of advancing past vegas because bettman $$$ wanted vegas in the final.
That jets team had the absolute best defense ( byfugelien, myers, trouba etc) with helle in goal that ive seen since the montreal teams of savard/robinson etc.
I think the nhl owes the jets one.
People like this makes me actually want the league (which for the record, they don't) rig playoffs against Canadian teams.

Yeah, but teams that win the president trophy win the cup a lot. If you include teams that won the Cup the previous year or teams that win the cup the following year, Presidents Trophy winners win the cup a whopping 42% of the time.

E.g. Colorado won the Presidents Trophy in 20-21, then won the Cup in 21-22. Tampa won the Presidents Trophy in 18-19, then won the Cup in 19-20. etc, etc...

Good teams are good teams.
If the team wins the president’s cup that’s a lot of winning before losing.

They were the 2nd team in NHL history to win 13 of its first 14 games. (The other, weirdly, was the 2007-08 Senators.) None of the great dynasty teams in history ever did that.

Now they're at 14 of 15, but I don't know how many teams, if any, have done that...?

President’s cups don't mean much, winning streaks that span 2 seasons; now that's banner worthy!

Also justust a couple days ago the Jets raised their "Most Wins During Two Presidential Terms" banner.

That's because old people lie.

I'd be shocked if they didn't win the president's trophy but for all we know they could get punted in the first round.

The playoffs are just different. The Bruins and Lightning serve as cautionary tales of this.

Not pretenders this year. If you have actually watched them, they are a much better team than last year.
They were very good last year. All lines going. D is top 10. Best Goalie in the league. Always hustling. No loafers on that team.

Please Understand
Please quit paying attention to us. The Jets are playing like they deserve the record they have. I am one of the more hyper critical jets fans out there. They have never had this good of a special team's system. They are playing an excellent team game. I admit I did not like the head coaching choices of the last couple of seasons. I will gladly eat crow on this one. I thought it was going to be a magnificent fall on your face. Keep er rolling.

I don't get this take either. The Jets haven't been consistent contender for the past 7 years or whatever like the Leafs. After the 2018 playoffs, the team rapidly fell off. They failed to reach 100 points in 2019 (and predictably lost to the hottest team in the league in the Blues, who had the same number of points), and then the team was a wild card level team up until last season. They played at a 92 point pace in 2020 and 2021, finished with 95 points in 2022, and then actually had a good regular season last year.

This is all despite having likely the best regular season goalie in the league.

They failed to make it past the first round of the playoffs because they haven't been a good team. Their regular seasons have reflected this.:dunno:
Swept Edmonton in the lockdown

Not from what I saw. The Avs started taking the game over in the early parts of the 2nd period and were clearly the better team in the 3rd.

That's a team without FIVE of their Top-9 forwards...

Nuke
Drouin
Landeskog
Colton
Wood
Definitely a bad game by the Jets. But they had a tough schedule up until then, playing every other night. Bounce back against Dallas was good. Really good road game against the Rangers.

Congrats Winnipeg

Good to see my boy SammyBurg breaking out, been hyping this cat up for way too long, even before the national championships./

I don't really follow prospects, but people had great things to say about him when we picked him so I'm pretty happy it's worked out so far for us!

I wrote a long piece the winnipeg section right after he signed with video's and clips for those who weren't familiar with his strengths.

Him and Mikey Anderson were one of the best pairings in the NCAA in a long long time.

Scary thing about the Jets is they are getting better and still have room for improvement. This is a better team than the record setting Bruins team a couple seasons ago. That team had a horseshoe stuck up it's ass with all those 3rd pd come from behind wins in the regular season. Then of course couldn't even win one playoff round. The Jets will make a deep run provided they stay healthy. It's a machine.

Hellebuyck has been the most consistent high end goalie in the league for 7 years who gives them a chance to win every night
This is true but until Helle does it in the POs there will always be some doubt.
Helle is a great goalie.
He needs to take the next step.
He needs to prove this in the POs.,

.... Crashing and burning all the way to the points banked, to quote the late, great Liberace Bowman.
