Ideally no. I'm not anti Skinner. I think Skinner needs to be a tandem goalie with an equal split. Blackwood is the same.
That's fair. I'm more anti Skinner and would make that deal straight up. Also, probably more bitter than the average poster so there may be Skinner resentment.
Not that I'm big on Blackwood (don't take that the wrong way), just looking for a goalie who doesn't lose the team the game as often. I'm not sure Blackwood is the answer, but I'm pretty sure Skinner is not.
And the caps work.

Skinners consistency is far away from a legit #1 like Hellebuyck or Shesterkin, and this team really deserves to have a goalie like that.
Are you sure we really deserve that? You may want that. Remember Wallstedt. Remember just missing out on Markstrom to our enemy.

Re: the poll

I think what sealed it for me is that if you kept the entire roster exactly the same but swapped out Skinner for almost any other goalie in the NHL this season, the Oilers would have more wins.

You don’t realize how bad of a problem this is until it dawns on you that David Rittich wouldn’t necessarily be worse.

Who cares? That was old management. And Markstrom made his choice, taking a bit more to play in Calgary, was inconsistent (alternating good and poor years) and for his poor choice the 'karma' was having a tantrum when Flames management couldn't pull off a trade when they promised him.

What do we have for picks to trade?
Quite a few actually

My issue with this is Stolarz from 6 years ago isn't the same man now. A good team with a good goaltending coach in Florida really built him up and turned him into an NHL goalie. Anaheim also helped his development. Meanwhile Edmonton is where goalies go to die.
His numbers were 0.897 with a small sample size at 6 games with the Oilers. That was still good.

Now he's looking like the next Ben Bishop

(1) I'm including 2022-2023, where he played on the 3rd best team in hockey. He was every bit as atrocious as he has been before and since.

(2) He was pretty consistently outplayed by the other goalies on his team, and it's not exactly an impressive list.

(3) The number cited are goals saved above expected, which to a certain extent takes into account the quality of chances you're going. I'm not going to pretend that being on a bad team doesn't hurt those numbers to some extent, but we're not talking about the margins here. Blackwood has been straight up putrid for multiple teams in multiple situations over several years.
His numbers certainly took a dip that season but Devils were never known for their defense in the Hughes era. With the Oilers defense under Knob system, I believe Blackwood would be a tier above Stuart. Also keep it mind he was dealing with the whole anti Covid vaccine thing

Yeah not great. I think we will have to disagree on this one. Imo, Edmonton can't even get goalies to look decent, let alone get the most of them. Toronto has always been a place where a goalie looks great for a year and then the villan the next year. They've gone through Andersen, Campbell, Samsanov, Holl and Stolarz. They got the most out of these guys while they play for them.

We need to completely rebuild our goalie coaches and or scouts. We are drafting/signing guys that lack the mental fortitude to be starters and honestly look like they've lost confidence.

The Oilers have the pieces to get a top 4D and someone that is better than Stuart. It shouldn't be one or the other.
This is the way I see it as well.

I wonder if Kemp 2nd and 4th gets you Petterson, Kemp is close to NHL ready, if you look at what the Oilers have had for big RHD, he's a good bet for team (Kesselring & Desharnais)

I still don't trust his health, sincerely, I don't think they can bank on him, only to have him miss 2 months.

Yeah. I read the one quote from Skinner where he said he suffers from anxiety. No offense to him but I just don’t how thats ever going to work for a goalie playing in a Canadian market. Especially playing for hometown. Then you combine that with his lack of athleticism.

Like you said we need starter with a strong mental fortitude.

I agree as well. Oilers should add both a 2nd pair RHD and at worst a tandem guy for Skinner.
Thats quite an easy statement to make and most here would agree with that. However its the the WHO, THE HOW AND THE WHEN that maybe you could expand on.

I mean you believe the Oilers can only take what other teams will give them at the price those teams set, so I can understand your confusion at the idea of sincerely improving the team.

I was just agreeing with the two other people who said the same. I think the assets are there. If you want me to suggest who I would target, I don't think Blackwood is a bad choice. I don't have any scouting report but Alex Lyon might be another option.

As for RHD Rasmus Andersson is the pipe dream, I would actually sniff around John St. Ivany from Pittsburgh, although I would prefer a guy with a little more bite. Connor Murphy would be another guy I would be calling about.

No, I believe in asking about players that there might be some intention to move. If we offer our next five firsts, Savoie, Jarvientie, Rodrigue, Akey and O'Reilly maybe we should try to get Makar?

And I am not trying to get on your case, I just would like to look at realistic targets, not what I think the perfect player might be. They may not be the same.

The chances being fewer?

The Oilers allow the 3rd least amount of shots and high danger zone chances in the league. The defense isn't perfect but they're doing a pretty good job.

The problem is horrid goaltending. Period.
Horrid goaltending and scoring up until recently.
It's not even the Dmen necessarily, it's that the Oilers possess the puck so much that they defend less so the weaker defense on paper doesn't have to defend as much.

This is why I'm bullish on this team this regular season because I feel like the scoring and goaltending will correct itself because they're both underperforming relative to normal.
For a true Cup run though, they'll need a defensive upgrade but the defense is good enough in the interim until then.
