Are the Jets for real or are they going to crash and burn?

Yep, but it’s November. I’ll take winning for now and worry bout playoffs in June.
Why does the NHL even sell the tickets for the 82 regular season games, I wonder. They should just give them away, from what I read on this thread, since the regular season means absolutely nothing whatsoever and has no importance, compared to the Stanley Cup tourney that follows it. Why not just have a 32 team bracket for the Stanley Cup and start it in October in that case?

I'm not even a Leafs fan but you have to admit it's pretty funny that the Jets are 0-fer against Toronto ever since Scheif's "nothing better than beating the Leafs" comment from a few years back.

They're certainly on a heater this year though, far exceeding even the most optimistic Jets' fans expectations I'm sure. Will see how the rest of the season plays out and whether or not they can maintain this massive cushion atop the Central for the next sixty games.
We’re now reaching the tipping point where the Leafs fans are more obsessed with us than we are with them! I don’t even care that we lost to the Leafs - being in Toronto I just kinda feel sorry for their fans now, so glad to have been able to shine a ray of sunshine into their gloom (which even if it hasn’t emerged yet in Toronto, is bound to do so with more inevitability than any Jets “crash”).

There are few things that a certain group of fans on here hate as much as the idea that hockey can and should be enjoyable from October to April.

I guess being from Manitoba I tend to like being outdoors in the spring, after the long winter, rather than watching hockey games, so even as much as I’d love to see a Stanley Cup run, in my anonymity I’ll admit that I don’t always mind a “great regular season + early exit” pattern that much…

I mean it's fair to say that about a team who flamed out in the 1st round in spectacular fashion two years in a row...They had a 110 points regular season last year with a Vezina winner and managed to win one whole game in the playoffs.

Where is this idea the Jets spectacularly flamed out in the playoffs in 2023 coming from?

The Jets' beating the Knights would have been a massive upset at the time, even if we ignore that the Knights proceeded to win the Stanley Cup and lose 6 total games the entire playoffs.

Not shitting on you, but I've never heard this sentiment and I don't blame you 😂

I'd say so. They currently have a 1.023 PDO. It should go down but not by too much, because they have stellar goaltending.

Whether that translates into playoff success is unclear, but given the league's history, I tend to doubt it.

Am I? I have no dog in this fight. But if you're going to mock something that the Leafs do that's insignificant then you shouldn't celebrate something that as of now is also insignificant. It also comes off as a bit tone deaf. The Jets are so amazing that we're going to mock other teams' fans because they are so happy that they beat them.

You displaced your apostrophe. It's team's. No other team can beat us.

Whats your point? That was last season.

I know of a team that had almost a 70g season from a star player and yet they to flamed out in the first round.

Point is, it’s hard to win in the playoffs. Only one team can win the Cup, so does that mean 31 other teams had a horrible season? No, of course it doesn't.

Last year was last year. This year is a new one. Anything can happen. Not sure why so many people are stuck in the past.

Crazy that they have 6 goals on 9 shots in only 3 total minutes with the extra attacker.

They have a +39 goal differential, but are only +13 during 5v5 play. That's crazy - they are averaging a +1.62 goal differential per game on special teams / EN situations.

They're a great team but there's no way that's sustainable lol.

I hope it's for real as I think it would be cool to see the Jets win a cup (and my Habs definitely aren't winning it this year ).

Looks like they have very average-y possession metrics and it's Hellebuyck's stellar play that's taking them up to that next level.

Pretty much a lock for them to make the playoffs at this point, but I think they need to bring in a top rental to give them that extra push for a deep playoff run.

I get what you’re trying to say, but that “only +13” would place 6th in the league right now.

Edit: 7th place

Top rentals mess with the vibe of the team which vibing pretty hard.
