also i’m sure this is coming from Bratt’s agent, but i think considering their own filing at the hearing was so low, it’s clear Fitz’s long term contract offer went no higher than 6m, maybe was more like 5 and change.

Their filing wasn’t low. It was for one year of restricted free agency. RFA years are cheaper than UFA years and short term rfa deals that don’t take any ufa years are lower in value than deals that do eat ufa years.

Please educate me, lad. If they actually went to arbitration, they couldn’t negotiate a long term extension before 1/1/23. But since they avoided it, they can sign him 8x8 today if they would like and have it kick in next year.

Is this correct?

As always, I must warn you that me thinking I know how this stuff works has blown up in my face before.

That said, I’m pretty sure if it’s a one year deal you can’t extend it until Jan 1st.

That’s how it is in NHL games. They’ve gotten stuff wrong in the past but there’s something else that confirms the one year deal thing

Bratt seems happy lol, just did an IG story. That doesn’t seem like a guy with bad blood to me.
You think maybe there was some "under the table handshake / verbal agreement" going on here with him and Fitz?

Maybe Fitz told him "Play this year out while I *ahem* 'clear some deadweight' and I'll give you a more palatable contract" or something to that effect....

Fitz was willing to pay up for Jack before he really had any significant production (Obviously he was a 1st overall, but he wasn't an out-of-the-box star). Bratt has a lot more of a track record behind him. Maybe Fitz is willing to give him a big-time contract after "one more" year of production. Or maybe he just doesn't value Bratt as highly as we do.
That was a decision Fitz made. Fitz made clear it was the Devils that insisted on 8 years. A contract a C signs while on his ELC has no bearing on a wing signing after 2 years of playing as an RFA. Bratt should be looking at comps like Buchnevich, Fiala, etc.

Good outcome considering the last 24 hours - absolutely mind boggling waste of energy and underwhelming outcome considering the last weeks and months

Fiala was pretty close to an $8M AAV. If Fitz was offering close to $8M long-term, there probably would've been a contract signed.

I'm talking about Bratt's camp. If their highball offer was only 6.5m, for one year of restricted free agency of one of the best wingers in the league, it's clear that the offer that came from Fitz was not remotely close to what Bratt deserves.

I see all these posts about 7x8 and 8x8 and I'd bet it was something more like 5x6.

I'd be looking at new representation if I'm Jesper. He went out and had a good year but for some reason(s) settled with the 1 year deal in which he has to go out and prove himself again. At some point the agent should have communicated that a 3-4 year deal with similar pay is the safer bet.....no?

See you all again next summer lol.

I think Fitz prob wanted more term with less $$. So, $6.5 x 8 years or something.

Bratt’s team prob wanted shorter and higher $$. So, $7 - $8 x 4 years.

I think another ppg year gets him closer to the long term deal he wanted. Of course, if he gets injured / misses > 25% of games, then things remain cloudy.

A Motivated Bratt during an obvious "contract year" will be something to see this coming season.

I hope Ruff puts him in a position to be the most effective and successful, and not try to sabotage him.

That still remains to be seen, Fitz. :squint:

Bratt's agent is crazy. I was expecting him to get a deal done the night before the deadline.

Waiting until 1 minute before the deadline is ambitious stupid.
Fixed.

Unnecessary drama.

It just feels like some of you are taking it way too personally. Like Jesper is saying “f*** this team, I don’t want to be here” rather than “I’m going to have another amazing year and then you’re going to pay me a ton of money to play hockey with these guys love”.

It’s not like he has some “home” he can go to like Parise did. Unless you actually think he just wants to go to a low tax state because he literally only cares about money.
"some of you" is actually one person in particular who has called him every name in the book.

That sounds a lot like what I've been saying regarding Fitz lowballing him.
