I absolutely love the Pasta deal, that should help with the comparable figure that Matthews should be asking for. I get AM plays a premium position, however Pasta has no nights/weeks off.Pasta signed for 8'more
Years at 11.25 so Matthews shouldn't be asking for more than that. 11.75 maybe but any more than that and it's overpay
Yep, most players have down years. Even superstars. The exception will probably be McDavid.
It's nice that Matthews having a down year will probably round out to him scoring 40 goals, be above ppg, and solid defensively.
Now, if it becomes a trend and he looks the same next year, management may have to reevaluate what to offer for his next contract.
He's been battling injury all season. Don't ask me how I know.
Need John Wicks doctor. Healthcare sucks in Toronto
@Menzinger had mentioned one with Mirtle and Seigel.....I don't remember where I saw the one I saw.Link?

There is this from mid-January.
Leafs' Matthews, another Benn victim? Red Wings Vrana sane scratch in gr - Canada Today
Why is not in game shape? Not in slightest .. he will be back to game shape soon

edit: This also helps prevent Marner from getting any ideas of starting with a $12/13M...$11-12M or take a lap.
I dunno, offensively he doesn't look the same. He's absolutely playing elite level defence, there's no question about it. My concern is his drop in production from when he does have the puck. He isn't flying in the O-zone and dominating with the puck as much as he did last year. There's a very noticeable drop off, I think he's playing through some sort of injury it's just strange. The way McDavid was flying all over the ice last night, controlling the puck, going through guys etc. that's the shit Matthews was doing last year.At this point, this thread seems to be getting out of hand.
That is where stems from.THIS.
So much losing due to a shit attitude.
Keefe is also a moron. But hey the prisoners run the ship when you coddle the f*** outta them ever since they were drafted.
He will wait till mathews sign. The contract to worry about is Nylander not M&M.
Nylander is the one who is most likely to want to wait until he is a UFA, the one who will ask for the biggest raise, and still overlaping Tavares.
Kane's regular season totals for the last 2 cups are 55p in 47GP and 64 in 61. Sometimes I've noticed a correlation between star players "down" seasons and good playoffs.
Kane was top 5 in scoring in that 55 pt year abd then I think 2nd in ppg in that 64 pt year
No where comparable to 2023 matthews

100%, though if the Leafs don't get out of the 1st round again I think you have to take a good hard look at the core. You've changed everything around them several times now, if they can't get it done this year I suspect big changes are in store...whether or not Dubas is in charge. With Nylanders year, this could also hurt the leafs with his negotiations if he continues this into next season.
Pasta hasn't won a cup though. Overpayment?I absolutely love the Pasta deal, that should help with the comparable figure that Matthews should be asking for. I get AM plays a premium position, however Pasta has no nights/weeks off.

Willie stats can’t compare with Pastra though. Pastra is a 50 goals scorer while Willie is a 30 goals scorer. With Nylanders year, this could also hurt the leafs with his negotiations if he continues this into next season.
50 goal pace would be much more accurate since he's never actually hit 50 goals in a season to date.Willie stats can’t compare with Pastra though. Pastra is a 50 goals scorer while Willie is a 30 goals scorer.
True to that but Pastra is always the top 3-5 goal scorers in the league the past few seasons where Willie is around top 1550 goal pace would be much more accurate since he's never actually hit 50 goals in a season to date.
