he's worth 4M....

this team lives and dies on defense... i'm starting to think it's better to have a great top 4 and a good top 6 rather than an amazin top 2 and an average bottom 4
 
We should have traded Girardi and paid Stralman but that ship has sailed.

he's been pretty bad. looks to me like he's run out of gas, and it's only going to get worse if we make another deep cup run.

I just can't stand how much the media inflated his value. I wonder if he wasn't Canadian and didn't have the defense partners he had here in NY...oh wait remember the infamous Del Zotto-Girardi pairing? :amazed:
 
I think we should sign stralman over staal... Stralman doesn't have the long list of injuries and plays more physical than staal right now and stralman is a better value overall and staal would be a good guy to move to unclog the log jam of LHD in our system... Plus staal would bring a massive return compared to stralman

In a perfect world, we keep Stralman, buyout Richards, and trade Staal for Pavelski.

He will get close to that in FA most likely, but not from us. Klein coming in basically shows where the future is, because he is a very similar player that is a second pair guy playing on the third because of depth. Is McIlrath ready to make the jump? I hope so, because if not and he busts, that sets this team back.

I wouldn't add to Staal, and having Diaz on the 2nd pairing would be.. less than optimal.

I'm not so sure Diaz on the second line pairing would work out well over the course of a season.

its a problem that will have to sort itself out. you could try to move Moore there and have Diaz with Klein or start to break in McIlrath there or whatnot. Either way, i think upgrading the Center from the D wouldnt be a terrible move.
 
How about, if the Rangers make any trades, they try to find some good young talent about to break out, not these old guys like Spezza who are nearing a decline? Find a player like Toffoli or Pearson or Saad, etc.

Bad deal for the Rangers. If anyone needs to add it's Ottawa. I'm not sure we'd be going down the same road with Spezza in two or three years that we're going down with Richards right now. If we're moving Staal for a center I'd want someone a bit younger.
 
the guy might even be worth a little more like 4.5 unfortunately for us. I mean ******* talk about an unsung hero here. our 2nd best dman all season, outshined only by McD on a "D heavy" team.

The way this guy is beginning to rush the puck (on a team that has trouble scoring!), the huge open ice hits and nearly perfect defense we've seen from anton have increased his value a ton. I don't know much about our cap space but I could see him wanting OVER 4m. hopefully we can keep him at 4m and lock him up, maybe deal staal to Carolina and put him with his brothers.

For what in return? We need to get significant value if we are trading Staal.

10000000000000000000% agreed.

I look around the league and get SO jealous of the teams that have the young talented fast players when we have a history of paying bums over 10x their salaries!

like... why can't we scout, sign and cultivate a Smith-Pelly or a Toffolli, Saad, Shaw, etc? all of them are basically better, bigger and faster versions of Callahan and if i'm not mistaken much much cheaper!

That's what Sather's scouts are for, homie! move some cap space and maybe take a risk on a younger Dman who's been underrated and NHL ready for 2nd or 3rd pair! let's try something different!

yeah, except its not easy to find guys like that.

what we need is a #1 center to reslot the entire lineup. Spezza does fit that bill.

Grabovski would be my 2nd choice, but hes not even close to being on the same level as Spezza.
